Jacen smiled when Jesse laid his head on his shoulder; although they were about the same height, Jacen was used to being the thin one, the weaker one, the one who depended on people as opposed to the one people depended on.
This was not to say that he was unreliable, just unused to being the physically more alert, for some reason.
Jacen, above all, liked to eat. One couldn't tell by looking at him, however, as it went straight through him.
He grabbed a plate, settling into line beside Jesse. Conscious of other's eyes on him, he realized how weird it would be; yesterday, even he had thought he was straight.
Tonight, he could get laid. Talk about a turnaround.
He spooned rigatoni onto his plate, and then bolognese, adding some of a baguette sitting on a cutting board, covered in scattered crumbs.
Then, he followed Jesse, echoing his prayer and changing it to Eurybia, adding in a portion for Pontos. He hoped Pontos liked Italian.
The silence was comfortable, not awkward, for once, and as they both ate like starved wolves, he settled his mouth to think. He was still shirtless, and could feel Jesse's eyes burning into him, like a brand but somehow comforting as well.
"Sorry about that, guess I was feeling a little sharkish there for a minute. How about you? The grub filling that cute empty little belly of yours yet? Or is it skipping your stomach all together and headed right for your system?"
It seemed Jesse was apologizing for something, although Jacen couldn't figure out what it could be. They'd been hungry, it was only natural to eat quickly... right? It'd been polite of him to ask about his stomach, though.
"Oh, I think I'm satisfied for now.... almost."
He grinned, looking down to deal with the embarrassment that was surely available for all to see on his face.
"You know Jacen, I would love to have you stay with me tonight, but you don't have to. You don't owe me a thing. We're mates right? And mates do for mates. If I ever need help, I'd come to you, just as I'd like to hope you'd come to me as well. That isn't to say I wouldn't like to get to know you in a much more intimate way, but I'd hate it if you only did it because you felt obligated. None the less, my door will always be open to you, even if that means just crashing on the couch eating pizza and watching old movies or something..."
The speech of Jesse's made Jacen take another bite of pasta as he listened, and feel a rush of shame and a feeling as if he'd been moving too quickly. Had he been going too fast? The timeline of events struck Jacen, not as a funny thing, but as a relationship as anyone else would see it... he'd met the guy this morning, and though he felt more than trust and kindness for him, and had depended on him and gone through a lot with him... frankly all he knew of Jesse was mostly gossip.
Then again, did Jacen really want a relationship? Jesse was knowledgeable in ways Jacen wasn't, and as always, the thought of someone else knowing something Jacen didn't wouldn't let him sleep. True, Jacen had gone through a lot of emotional upheaval lately, but most of it had been positive, hadn't it?
But Jacen couldn't deny that the physical attraction was there. He found himself fighting reason, and compromising. No relationship, but no 'just friends' either. No, not when the entire Dining Hall had seen them together, like that... he was outed, and there was no going back. A one-night thing, and they could take it from there.
He knew Jesse, too, would be fighting his instincts to even suggest waiting.
But still.... Jacen was so inexperienced sexually, even mentally. He was a virgin, though he didn't think much of it, and the sudden worry of breaking the etiquette of Jesse's world, a world of pleasure without commitment, scared him.
Had Jacen done something wrong, moving this quickly? Had he scared Jesse off with overeagerness? He thought not; Jesse was probably more eager than he was, at any rate.
Realizing that Jesse wanted an answer, and he'd been thinking for a while, he put down his fork, and grinned.
"You said if I needed help, you'd come to me? Yeah, I'm desperate for help."
He hoped his crude joke didn't simply confuse his wishes, that they wouldn't be lost in translation.
He wanted this.
