Okay, I don't know if this will work, but I'm Gonna try and encourage posting here. This will be a serial story. The more frequently I have something to reply to, the more frequently I'll update the story.
It was a quiet day at Camp Half-Blood when the first of the Lost Children came into their world. Percy and Annabeth were out on the lake, Grover was in the forest with Juniper. It was one of the reasons that Rachel was feeling a bit of jealousy. She'd made it sound like giving up romance was easy when she took the position of Oracle, but the truth was she knew that she and Percy wouldn't work out. She'd seen him and Annabeth. There were somethings futures she didn't really like seeing.
Now, there was no one really willing to get that close. Percy and Annabeth were great friends, very close, but everyone else seemed to be afraid of her. She brushed the hair over her ear and looked up at the ridge, Thalia's Tree and the golden fleece... there was something. She moved toward the tree, the dragon was attacking something. The dragon was knocked away from the camp and a limp body tumbled down the hill into camp. Other campers had seen it happen.
She got there and found a boy with pale but muscled skin. his shirt was torn, and he looked half-starved, and covered in scars. He looked up. "Am I... at camp?" and with those few words he passed out. She rolled him gently onto his back, and then saw on his left shoulder, in regular English, the word "Eris" tattooed in black.
The first to show up was Clarice who had been running practice drills with Ares cabin. "What happened?" she demanded.
"He just came over the hill... I think the dragon attacked him though," Rachel answered.
"Did you see this coming?" Clarice asked, craning her neck to survey the hill.
Rachel paused. While she didn't get big visions except when the spirit of Delphi over took her, she did usually have feelings and senses of what was coming next, but now... there was nothing. "No... I... I have nothing."
At that moment kids from Apollo Cabin showed up, she backed away to let them do their thing. "We need to get him to the big house infirmary," the head of Apollo cabin stated.
"You two," Clarice ordered two of her siblings. "Carry him, the rest of you, we need to go check on the dragon." She whispered something to one of the kids she's selected to help carry the guy, and then took off with the rest of her cabin mates.
Rachel followed, but let them go ahead as Percy and Annabeth had come trotting up to see what the commotion was about. She explained what she'd seen. "Do you guys know what 'Eris' means?" she asked.
"It's a goddess," Annabeth replied. "Though not one we've come across I'm happy to say. Goddess of chaos and strife. She started the Trojan war."
"Trojan war?" Percy asked. "I thought Paris started that by eloping with Helen?"
Annabeth stopped and stared at him a moment. "What?" he asked, obviously selfconscious about her stare.
"It's just more than I expected you to know," She replied.
"I did have Chiron for a Latin teacher," he explained.
"Seaweed-brain," she explained. "Paris and Helen were only in love because Aphrodite bribed him with Helen of Troy so she could be crowned queen of what was basically the world's first beauty pagent. and that only started because Eris threw a golden apple into the party labeled "To the Fairest of all"."
"Why'd she do that?" Percy asked apalled.
"For kicks," Annabeth sneered. "She's the goddess of Chaos. She sided with the Titans in the first war."
"Because she was snubbed," Rachel corrected. "She wasn't invited to the same party that everyone else was invited to."
"Still sounds like overkill," Percy sighed.
"Well, gods," Rachel rationalized with a shrug. "The Olympians have done worse with less reason.
"Well that tattoo, does that mean she sent him, that he's her kid, what?" Percy pondered.
I guess we'll find out as soon as he wakes up.
