It was a lovely spring day. It was quite wonderful to say the least to be able to enjoy it even if was just for an hour or two. While most of her tent mates were out playing games or honing their skills, Nora was walking along a secluded strand of the beach with her ipod in hand and her earphones blasting one of her old school eclectic play lists. This one had everything from Nickleback to Sister Hazel to the Script to Augustana to Plain White Ts to one of Mariah Carrey's old albums. She had a knack in putting together random songs that somehow fit on her playlists.
Usually, she'd be walking about while listening to an audio book. Or studying a scroll or book in Latin. Not right now though! She was dancing as she walked, moving her hips to the beat of the music pumping through her earphones as she mouthed the words. Sweet Fantasy by Mariah Carrey came onto her ipod and she started sashaying to the music as she sang out-loud (something she only did while she was alone). She and her mom used to sing this song when she was younger. It was a blast from the past, she used to say. They'd bop along to the music and jump on the bed or clean to it. It made the time go by faster, she used to say, if you had something to listen to while you did chores. Nowadays, Nora couldn't imagine not listening to music or an audiobook while cleaning or doing chores of any kind. If you had a song in your heart while you did something mundane, then it made things so much more enjoyable.
Southern demi-god didn't realize that she wasn't alone on this strand of beach anymore. If she had realized it, then she would have stopped dancing and singing immediately. And after she did that, she would have either blushed and ran off or apologized, blushed, stuttered, and faced her embarrassment a bit with just a tinge of dignity. And not necessarily in that order, either! However, she was blissfully unaware as she continued to dance in time to the music and sing, hitting all the right notes in all the right places..

He massaged his neck lightly. He was spoiled by his bed back home, he realized. He’d gotten dressed, in his gold suit that morning, but had forgone the jacket as usual and rolled up he sleeves. It was too nice a day for it. He’d rolled up his sleeves. He wasn’t wearing a hat, again too nice, as he walked by the beach. Usually walking by the river had always made him feel comforted, but this beach wasn’t doing it for him today. What he didn’t realize was that walking by the river had comforted him because it was flowing, and his mother was rhea. That is, until he came upon the one woman concert. He paused to appreciate her singing, which was actually spot on. He kind of wished he had a trumpet. A few nice musicians in the French Quarter had taught him to play some music on the trumpet. He wouldn’t mind joining in with her with a nice bit of zydeco spin on the Mariah Carey song. The only music he had a real problem with was metal and grunge. It was so negative. He preferred more upbeat music. Lacking that he started humming along as he watched her. She was very talent. As he realized she was another demi-god or demi-titan, he quickly made the logical leap that she was likely a child of Apollo or Apollo (Why, he wondered, was he the only god who kept the same name in Greek and Roman incarnations?). Finally, beginning to feel like a bit of a voyeuristic perv, he gave her a light whistle. Not a wolf whistle, but just something to get her attention as he began to applaud. Once he could tell she was listening, his smile widened and he said, “Absolutely beautiful. You have the voice of… well the daughter of a Apollo.”

Nora jumped and twirled around when she heard the slight wolf whistle and applause. She yanked her earphones away from her ears, letting them fall around her neck. Her dark brown eyes were huge as she regarded him. Embarrassment, panic, and well, suspicion as well as a little bit of a fright chased each other across her face until her eyes narrowed. She didn't know how long he'd been watching her and she really didn't care.
Miss Kirkwood didn't like people spying on her. Her siblings did that enough, thanks. So, she was quite annoyed to find that this younger boy had done just that and caught her singing (something she only did when she was alone). You see, regardless of who her father was, Nora was quite self conscious about her singing talent. She'd sing with her family when she was home, but not in public. In fact, she'd not actually sung in front of anyone since she'd begun attending Halfblood Academy. So to have this younger boy spy on her and to have him have heard her sing, well..She was really starting to get a bit peeved.
"What makes ya think I'm a daughter of Apollo?," she fumed, attacking the last thing that he said, "I could be the daughter of a muse or some other god who just happens to have a good set of pipes." The Southern gal tossed her hair a little then, obviously agitated. Really and truly, she would have been a bit nicer if she wasn't so self conscious. He just stepped into some of her little insecurities and pet peeves quite unknowingly.

DD held his hands up in the universal “Don’t kill me,” gesture. He took a step back. This was why he hadn’t waited longer to make her aware, she must either be self-conscious or have some pretty big trust issues. She had raised a good point though about there being other being’s she could belong to. Muses, Sirens too, although He had the feeling that if she were descended from a siren she’d be less concerned about people hearing her, and if she were the daughter of a muse, she’d probably be singing an original song. Of course, he just got here, so what did he know. “Sorry, Songbird,” he apologized. His tone wasn’t joking, it was slightly patronizing. “I didn’t mean to scare you.” He gave a warm smile. “I was just out for a walk, and came upon you. Whoever your divine-parent is, you’ve got a great set ‘a pipes. You could make a killin’ down in the French Quarter.” He looked her over. On a small level he was a bit offended that she was snapping at him, but he didn’t think that would help this situation. He tried switching gears. “My names Dominic Boreman, but most folks always called me DD. Son of Rhea… don’t know if that helps or not.” He thought that perhaps she felt the lineage was a sensitive subject and didn’t like talking about it. He told her, hoping she’d understand that he didn’t know that, he didn’t realize one wasn’t supposed to talk about parents, if that was the case. He was confused about how manners would work here, and that was half of a successful and peaceful negation; appropriate etiquette. He knew a good deal of etiquette, as Mama Delaney and made sure he was raised up a proper southern gentleman. He lowered a hand and held it out for a shake, trying to test the waters of whether or not she’d really attack him. Which would be a problem as he had no fighting skills what-so-ever.
