Personality:
Luc is the restless type of guy who longs for adventure every minute. He's the one in the middle of the room with the ready smile. Jovial and good-humored, he likes to talk a lot in an honest, straight-forward, sometimes almost blunt (and annoying) kind of way. He has similar characteristics to a 5-year old--- curious and clueless about the world, but makes up for it in determination and tenacity. Once he sets his sights on a goal, he will do everything in his power to reach it, and because he is quite a bundle of energy, he usually does get what he wants. He values freedom very much and would never ever want to be contained. Luc can be optimistic, sometimes even blindly to the point of being careless, but somehow, it always works out for him in the end. He is mischievous and naughty, but his excitement can be quite contagious. Though playful most of the time, there will be those very very rare cases that he'll be serious. When those rare occasions happen, people would usually raise brows in seeing this philosophical side of him.
And maybe because Luc is the son of the Roman god of luck, he can be fleeting. Sometimes it can be a weakness because 1) it means he can't stand still in one place and can have difficulty focusing on a subject as he tends to be distracted easily; and 2) he can't multitask as he need to really spend time concentrating and finishing one activity first. Most of the time, though, this is his strength. His fleetingness makes him agile and quick-thinking with fast reflexes and easy solutions to a problem, and usually it takes him only a quarter of the time to finish something he's doing than what other normal kids can do. It makes him ready and prepared in a second's preparation. He can be impatient and demanding, pushing everyone to their limit (and sanity), but he doesn't blame when something goes wrong. Neither is he selfish with praises, as he gives them out generously when he sees that it is duly deserved. He isn't the type to please people. Rather, he does things because he wants to improve himself.
History:
George Fray was a humble worker at the city zoo. As the night shift zookeeper, he was required to look after the animals when Ben Skipper, the day shift guy wasn't around. George's job didn't really require a lot of fuss. When night falls, the place was much quieter when it was empty of people and the animals were asleep. He had been doing his job for 30 years now that he had considered the zoo his home and the animals there, his family. As fate would have it, George has no living relatives left, and though sometimes, it has its perks, most often than not it was quite lonely.
It was during that fateful cold autumn midnight of October 6th, then, when George Fray heard an infant's cry outside of his humble office, which also doubled as his apartment. He had been confused at first, wondering if his ears had deceived him. He didn't recall any of the female animals being pregnant, so it would be highly unlikely if they just gave birth out of the blue. The zoo was also restricted to visitors after hours and he remembered he locked all the gates. He thought that maybe it was just the wind howling. It wouldn't be impossible. After all, it was pretty cold and breezy considering winter was near.
But the wailing didn't stop and pretty soon, George could not ignore it anymore. He went to check out the noise, and lo. On his doorstep was a brown woven basket where a heavily bundled-up baby boy, who couldn't be more than a year old, was crying his lungs out. His little fists were raised up in the air, like a champion fighter ready for a brawl.
To say that George was surprised would be an understatement. The old man, however, didn't waste anytime taking the basket inside the small warm office. Once he had set the basket on the kitchen table, he took out the baby, raising it to the light to get a better look at it. Immediately, the infant stopped crying, looking instead with a curious and perplexed expression at the old guy who was holding him up. Soon enough, he began to coo and laugh, trying to reach his little arms out to George. George, on the other hand, wrinkled his nose, wondering what he was to do with the little person. The baby looked harmless enough, but George had no experience in ever caring for a child. Plus, it was another mouth to feed, and another responsibility to look after to.
As he looked at the boy looking at him with with wide innocent eyes, though, he realized how helpless and how pitiful the child was, even if the boy didn't know about it. George couldn't imagine anyone ever giving up their own kid, and so he decided to keep the kid for 3 days. Maybe his parents will come to find him or maybe someone will post an ad in the paper. George didn't even name the kid, fearing that once he'll do, he'll get too attached to him and it will pain him once he has to give him away.
But the days turned to weeks, and the weeks to months. Nobody came looking for the boy. And the old zookeeper finally decided that maybe it was time for him to adopt the child. It was exactly on Christmas when the boy legally became his son, and George Fray named him Luc. Partly because it was his father's name, and partly because it meant "light". George felt blessed because the child came to him when he thought everything was dark and lonely.
Eleven years passed, and the boy grew up mischievous and bounding with restless energy. Luc was always getting himself into all sorts of trouble, but somehow, he had always managed to get himself out of it. He was adventurous, always travelling and exploring places in the city, be it the sewers or an alley or the rooftop of a 5-star hotel, that George never even set foot to, he'd somehow come back to the zoo looking flush and excited, babbling about the experience he just had. Luc was forever flight-footed, never in one place and always itching to get to the next. George supposed it was his ADHD. Eversince he got diagnosed with that disorder, Luc had opted to stay with George and tend to the animals than be bullied in school with people who did not understand what ADHD was about.
His illiteracy did not stop him from being quick-witted nor quick-footed. He was agile in both mind and body, and sometimes it was hard to catch him stand in the same area for more than 10 seconds. Luc was playful and friendly, and he talks a lot about anything under the sun. Once he starts chatting, it would be hard to get him to stop. He can be very trusting, and he has an easy, reckless air around him.
However, underneath all his being dynamic, Luc was most comfortable at home with his father, just talking to the animals at the zoo and observing random people walk by. In fact, one particular Mackenzie Tundra Wolf had somehow grown attached to him. It was what Luc would akin to a bestfriend, if he had one. He had named the beast, Hercules, and it would follow him around when he visits it at the wolf place. Sometimes, Luc would often sleep at their cave using the wolf as his pillow. It was his constant companion and it seemed satisfied to be.
Life was simple to young Luc, but it seems the Fates had other plans for him. One day, as he was feeding the elephants, accompanying his adoptive father with that chore, the lions on the cage next to the elephant nest suddenly started to shift in shape. At first, Luc thought that he may be hallucinating, but the 3 lions present started to put on a more ugly appearance, growing in size with their teeth growing larger and sharper by the minute and their claws looking like sharpened swords. Luc blinked once. And a couple more. The hallucinations didn't go away. In fact, other people seemed to notice the monsters too as they started panicking and screaming and yelling towards the entrance. The next thing Luc knew, those 3 lions suddenly broke out of their fences, destroying everything in their path as they charged towards him. Sensing the chaos and commotion, the elephants suddenly started to break out in a stampede too, hurrying away from the place and destroying the other fences of the other animals and accidentally setting them free.
What the elephants didn't see however, was George, who had been tending to them when the attacked happened, and they had forgotten about him as they panicked and trampled him to death. Luc saw all that in front of his eyes, and he had stood shocked still, unable to move with disbelief and denial. He would have been dead too, had be not been pushed into the man-made cave by Hercules, who had somehow managed to escape from his cage only to protect the boy. There was a small water stream inside the cave that Luc knew drained out somewhere. It was their only chance at escape, as the lions growled and roared outside. The monsters couldnt get in because they were too big, but their snouts could enter half of the cave. As they attacked closer and closer, Luc and Herc kept inching to the back. They were trapped. Deciding that there was no way out, Luc carried the wolf with him, held his breath, and dove right in to the stream.
3 hours after, they found themselves soaking wet under New York City. They've been wading all around the sewage trying to find a manhole to get back to the land of the living. When they've finally gotten themselves back up to the city, they found themselves in the middle of a deserted and garbage-filled alley. It was only then that Luc allowed himself to think of what just happened. The reality of the situation made him fell down to his knees and weep. His father, George, was now gone and he had nowhere else to go. He can't possibly go back to the zoo as he was sure the monsters were still out there, looking for him... probably scenting him out now.
It was in this moment of despair and self-pity that, out of nowhere, the 11-year old heard a voice.
"Get up."
Timidly, he raised his head, tear-streaked face confused as he searched for the owner of that voice. He found noone in the dark, except for his wolf companion.
"H-hello? Anyone there?" he asked, shivering a little as his clothes were wet and dirty. Something moved in the shadows, and he had expected some sort of person to leap out from there, but as he waited with baited breath, it was only a rat that scampered off rather quickly away from them. "W-who are you? Show yourself." Although scared, Luc managed to stand up on his feet, darting his eyes here and there, trying to adjust them to the light. He saw noone.
But just as he was about to think that his mind must have been playing tricks on him because of his grief, he chanced to glance at Hercules. The wolf's ice eyes were glowing, and he was staring straight at Luc. Strangely enough, Luc felt his fear ebb away like he was in the presence of someone familiar. Hercules then proceeded to tell him of how Luc was a demigod, and that it was dangerous for him to be alone in this city without any formal training. It told him of a place where other demigods go to, where they were recognized as sons and daughters of their Immortal parents...where they were protected from other monsters that want to harm them.... where they were taught everything they need to learn in order to survive by themselves. The wolf told him a lot of things and explained to him about the mist and the monsters and the urgency for them to meet with Luda and have Luc claimed by his immortal parent. They still wasn't sure which god or goddess it was, since the boy have no idea from which side he inherited his powers. Of course, they still don't know what powers he had too, but Herc seemed very sure that he was immortal because he had that distinctive Roman demigod smell, plus his aura was different from normal humans. It was a royal blue aura with the faintest hint of silver at the edges. Herc had added that it was that color which had attracted the Nemean lions to him, and pretty soon, other monsters in the city that they will encounter. Which is why, they needed to get to Lupa as soon as possible.
Luc couldn't understand why he didn't even bother protesting or disbelieving. He just accepted what the wolf said as though it was possible. Maybe he still was in denial of everything being true. Afterall, accepting that everyting was real would mean George really died. Whatever the reason was though, Luc followed the wolf.
They slept in that alley for the night, but when morning came, they started to get themselves ready. Because they were broke, they had nothing to eat. And when afternoon came, his hunger was gnawing from inside of him. Finally, he couldn't take it anymore and decided to steal some food at the nearest grocery store. After telling Herc that he'll meet him at the same alley in an hour, he proceeded to put his plan into action. He took with him 2 cartons of milk and a box of cereal. He had not forgotten Hercules and he had managed to snag a pack of sausages before he had slipped out of the exit. But the owner had seen him escape and started to chase and yell after him. Luc broke out into a desperate run, running blindly to dodge people. Because he had a slight agile built, he had managed to keep a fairly good distance away from the people after him. However, as he heard a whistle blow from behind him, Luc realized that he was chased by cops now too. Panting and wide-eyed with fear, he doubled his speed. He had a fairly good idea where turns and corners will lead to, since he had, before the monster incident, explored this part of the city. Finally, trying to catch his breath, he hid inside a shabby-looking deserted building.
It was there that he met 2 girls---one was about the same age as he was or prolly a year younger, and the other one, more or less 3 years younger. They seemed orphaned like him, and Luc instantly felt a kinship towards them. After, they talked, he invited them to come with him. Since they had nowhere else to go to, they agreed. Luc introduced them to Hercules, and Herc didn't seem to like them. The girls were hostile to the wolf too, but the wolf told him that the girls were halflings like Luc too. They explained, over their meager meal of milk and cereal that Luc shared, that they were runaways and that they were planning to stowaway on one of the ships in the docks if ever they will get the chance. Luc, telling Herc that there was no huge forest in NYC to meet Lupa, told the 2 girls that he'd come with them.
A week of careful planning finally got them into this ship that they've been observing for a while now, and over that course of time, he had gotten close to the 2 sisters, especially to the older one. Their plan was to drop off at the first stop of the ship, but that never happened. A huge sea monster had attacked their vessel and they got separated. Luc, after the storm and tornado had subsided, found himself on strange shores the next day. It was a pretty large island, but only inhabited by a small number of people in a little village. A native american tribe, they looked like. Luc couldn't even be sure if they were really indians or south american natives. He was just glad they weren't hostile and murderous. It was a quiet place, hardly developed like the city he had just came from, but he stayed there for 5 years, learning how to fight and defend himself with the sword that the people there seemed to be using, hoping that someday, Hercules will find him and take him to that place where others like him were gathered together.
That day came where Hercules and Luc finally met face to face after so many years. The boy, who was now a grown 16-year old, was hardly recognizable as the young scrawny child, but he had that same impish, adventurous look about him, and Herc didnt doubt that he was the halfblood he had lost at sea. The wolf bought him to Lupa where he was taught more how to fight, reinforced the skills that he had acquired from the island. For 2 years, he trained nonstop until he was ultimately claimed by his father, Sors, the god of luck. After that, he was sent to the Half Blood Academy, where he was now a newcomer in his senior year at the school.
Abilities: Luc's powers include:
- Getting himself extremely lucky when he wants something to happen. This only applies to things minor.
- Blessing others with good luck (also to minor stuff only). He can either transfer it through touching them or through blessing an amulet and giving it to them. Effect lasts longer with using a medium or amulet since good fortune is bottled.
- Cursing others with bad luck. [Ability is dependent on how strong is his emotions to that person (e.g. Rage at the most, mischievousness at the very least) and how strong he was at the time he made the curse (e. g. won't work as well when he's unconscious or dizzy)]
Weaknesses: - His powers doesn't work for the important stuff or what he truly and deeply needs. For example, if he is caught in a life and death situation, he won't necessarily have bad luck. Instead, his luck is neutral and anything can happen. It's just up to him how he can change it to a good one.
- His powers doesn't work every 13th day of the month.
- Cursing is a double edged sword. When he makes someone get bad luck, he gets cursed with bad luck too, until that person he just cursed runs out of misfortune.
Other Information:
=He has a necklace, with a small silver horseshoe as a pendant, given to him before by his adoptive father, but he had given it to the girl he had met before when he was a kid, before they got separated by the storm.
=He has a ring that transforms into a gladius made of celestial blade.
=Because he has difficulty sitting still, he usually does things to waste energy like tapping the heel of his foot over and over on the ground or drumming his fingers on the table.
