The endless hours between Noah's discovery of that infuriating letter and this one, couldn't decide whether they would crawl past like they were on the edge of death, or zip past at such a speed it would make your head spin. No matter how he got in this moment, he was here now. He gathered up his few meager possessions stowing them in the deep pockets of his duster, or in his batter much a abused knapsack. There it was, the some total of his life so far...pathetic. He would never become a god just sitting around this stifling camp agonizing over the good, bad and the ugly of his relationship with Xander. He had to set his own course. Several used up cliches ran through his mind, Fortune favors the bold, and Fools rush in, where Angels fear to tread,
First, he would have to find that wretch of a woman who claimed to be his mother, and either make things right with her, or...put an end to it once and for all, his hand strayed to the little crystal bottle of water from the River Lethe, just enough to make her forget he was ever born. He shook his head trying to focus his thoughts. He had to finish things quickly before his resolve broke and he ended up imprisoning himself in this foolish camp even longer. He rummaged around one of the desks, finding some nice crisp paper. He sat down putting pen to paper.
Joelle, Victor and Riven,
I apologize for having to do this by letter, rather than face to face, but certain opportunities have cropped up, that I just had to seize upon immediately, or lose them for good.
The long and the short of it is, I am leaving camp. I know this is the only way in which I will ever truly succeed in my desire to join our father, as one of his lieutenants. I must go out there and make a name for myself. I trust you all understand.
I will look forward to seeing you all when next, we visit our Father in the Underworld.
Until we meet again.
Noah
He carefully placed the letter in an envelope and set it where one of his siblings would find it, then attempted to write a letter to Xander. Every time he was ready to set pen to paper, he would disgust himself over the unnecessary flowery language, and settled on being blunt and simple, just as he always was.
Sparky,
Live well. Be Happy.
Until we meet again,
Noah
He folded up the paper, neatly printing Xander's name on it, and stuck it in his pocket. He stood up, shouldering his bag, the temptation to turn around and take one last look at the place that had been his only home for the past four, almost five years of his life, was unbelievable. Noah, being Noah, felt it would be too sentimental, and there was no need for that, so he strode out of the cabin with a confident gait and a near serene expression on his face.
He walked past cabin after cabin, finally reaching the home of Zeus' children, he slid note under the door and carried on his way. Before long he was standing in the small glade, where first he and Xander had met, there was still a small scorch mark on the ground where their fire had been. He stepped a few paced away and began preforming a ritual, summoning his ghostly sword master-mentor. He dug out two drachmas from his pocket, tossing them to the shade he spoke firmly, "Your services are no longer needed. Take your pay, and be at rest. Never let it be said that the son of Hades doesn't fulfill his agreements. Now go," the shade and coins disappeared in a haze leaving Noah alone once again. Satisfied that he had done everything he had set out to do, he headed for the camp boundary. Normally he would have just shadow traveled away, but this time, this time he felt that he needed to do this himself. Not just borrow some of his father's powers and vanish, well not yet anyway. No he needed to separate himself from the camp and everyone in it, then go out and become the kind of hero his father would want at his side, for all the rest of eternity.
As soon as he had taken his first step over the boarder, he shadow traveled to some rat infest shanty of an apartment. There she was in all her strung out horror, Angelica Setson. She lay on the floor quivering and twitching, cursing out the demons only she could see, and for once Noah knew pity. He could see the woman she once was, the same woman who had drawn Hades attention in the first place. He leaned over her, taking out a small vile of nectar, placing a small drop on her lips, just enough to heal whatever damage the drugs and alcohol had done to her. She slipped into a peaceful slumber as Noah took out the crystal bottle and carefully poured it over her, washing away all of the bitter agonizing memories, leaving her a clean slate.
She woke confused muttering, "Where am I? And who are you?"
"Who I am, isn't important. You are Angelica Aïdes, you are a housewife who left her abusive father and husband, and are now going to go back to school and make a real life for yourself. You will live happy and be at peace for the rest of your days," She stared open mouthed as Noah faded back into the shadows, finding himself strangely at peace for the first time in memory. He found himself in LA, extremely tired from his journey, he walked to DOA records, where he crashed on the couch rebuilding his strength. When he next he woke, he would be Noah Aïdes, son of Hades, a hero worthy of his divine father.
