ooc note: This thread was written in another site with permission from still the same authors but I'm sticking it in here because it's important to the Sebastian/Shay plot. Point of views switch from character to character so I hope it doesn't get too confusing.
Shay Du Rone:
This year, her father had asked if she wanted to go to Hong Kong with him for the Summer. He had wanted to do some cultural research for his new novel and had invited her along because, as he put it, they could some father-daughter time. Shay had been sorely tempted to say yes. There was a good chance that they would go to China as well and she wanted to see the famed Great Wall among many other architectual wonders that could be found in both Hong Kong and China. Compared to another boring year spent at Academy, where the majority to people didn't like her and vice versa a trip with her father sounded like haven. But Shay remembered losing that archery competition with Tanner and that competitive side of her wouldn't let her live that down. She would grown rusty if she didn't go to Academy and train.
And here she was. It had been a day since she had crossed the Academy's magical boundaries and Shay had everything unpacked. Warmlick my nostrils were few and far between since she didn't really mix with the sort to in got warmlick my nostrils and things like that. When time at the beach rolled around, Shay grabbed her flute and some blank music sheets and slipped away. Currently she was sitting on a large boulder, balancing her sheet music on her knees. Sometimes she would put her flute to her mouth and try out some experimental combination of notes. Her muse seemed to be back, which was a little bit of a blessing considering that it had left her high and dry last Summer. Maybe she would manage to complete the flute solo that she planned on dedicating to her mother this year.
Sebastian:
Sebastian had stayed the entire year at the Academy. It’s not like he has any family to pick him up or a home to go to. His grandfather’s dead. His mom’s dead. He doesn’t have any other relatives, and it’s not like his dad is crazy about meeting him. He wasn’t sure that his house in the mortal world was still standing. It’s been a long time since he’s been there. Eight years, to be exact. Sebastian wasn’t even certain he wants to go back there any time soon. It would open up a whole can of worms, and he wasn’t ready to face them.
The school wasn’t as noisy or as busy during year when the other kids weren’t there. It was fine by him. There were less distractions, less interruptions in his training. He spent his entire time wasting his energy on archery, climbing that darn wall, horseback-riding, and sword-fighting---basically the same stuff he did the entire year. But he didn’t grow bored with it. If anything, he thought it was fun, although on some days, it felt like hard work. The results were showing though. He felt lighter on his feet. He didn’t grow tired easily. And he was definitely more skilled in the arena. Even Chiron commented that he didn’t thought Sebastian could become any better than he already was.
That morning, when he woke up, he saw cars arriving and realized that summer was almost over. The other demi-gods were already arriving here. Not that he could care any less, of course. He pretty much didn’t have anybody he was looking forward to returning back in their Olympian Residence.
Well, there are his siblings. Sebastian wouldn’t say that out loud, obviously, especially to Keller, but that didn’t really count much, did it? They’re his dorm mates, not to mention his own blood. It was only to be expected.
Sebastian was pretty sure it was going to be another uneventful summer like the past ones. Probably some pranks here and there from Keller, but he was willing to bet it wasn’t going to be anything mind-blowing. Oh, how wrong he was though. It was a very lucky thing he didn’t have someone to have that bet on. You know what they say... If you want to make the gods laugh, tell them your future plans.
When afternoon came, after flying on one of the pegasi, he decided to take a quick swim at the beach. He chose an almost hidden cove, hidden by large boulders and some trees, and after tying securely the winged horse on a nearby palmtree, he took off his clothes, leaving only his boxers on. Sebastian checked if there were people around. The place was deserted, and he nodded, pleased at this thought. He ran towards the ocean. The water felt great on his skin, and he laughed hard in enjoyment, something that he doesn’t do too often. He did a couple of laps, and a couple more, then decided it was time to head back to camp. Dark hair dripping with water, and lean body glistening from the drops of it, he walked towards where he had placed his clothes, only to find it gone. Furrowing his brows, he looked around the place and saw a small figure sitting on a rock. He couldn't tell if it was a boy or a girl, since he/she was sitting quite far.
"Hey, you there! Did you see anyone running off with a pile of clothes in their arms?" He said loud enough for that person to hear. Sebastian wanted to come over there, but he wasn't sure he was dressed decently.
Joelle Morte:
Joelle walked peacefully along the beach, her toes squishing beneath the sand as she looked at the crystal blue water. Her hell hound was swimming through the large waves, as they pushed and pulled it softly. She noticed a few others on the beach, most paying more attention to what they were doing seeing as they probably missed the beautiful beach.
While others were off at home, Joe had stayed at Half Blood Academy. She hated her old family for reasons only she knew, they treated her as if she was a no body, a shameful child that they should keep in the closet. They hated the fact that she had tattoos, and hated that she hated them! To her it was always a never ending battle between her and her stepfather. The man who pleaded for a back rub, a beer, a sandwich- Whatever! Whatever it was, he always looked to Joe for the answer. Like she was the slave and he was the rich man. She hated it there, and to ever return would be like jumping into a pool of acid as it slowly melted away her body.
At the moment Joelle was having a very nice time, trying not to think about her past life with her family. Instead she thought of all the good things she had done over the year, running with Autumn, training in the arena, doing most of the things she normally did during the summer. She wasn't exactly excited about all the new demigods returning to the academy, as it would probably become that much more noisier.
Joelle closed her eyes in peace as she sat down in the cool water, Sure! it was getting her clothes wet, but she was wearing a bathing suit underneath so she didn't really care much. About to lay down, she heard a familiar voice yell from afar.
"Hey, you there! Did you see anyone running off with a pile of clothes in their arms?"
A large smile appeared on her face as she quickly got up out of the water, taking off her shirt (it was soaked) she revealed her black bathing suit top as she ran over to see him. Raising her eye brows she noticed him only wearing his boxers and her smile got even wider as she sorta checked him out. What? he had a nice body! She wasn't going to divert her eyes just because he was her friend. She looked over to who he was yelling at and realized who it was.. Shay. Joelle knew who she was for her small reputation with a few of the other students, stubborn and always focused. She knew that Shay had left for the year though because she hadn't seen her.
Joelle had been hanging out with Sebastian a lot of the summer while all the campers were off at vacation. He was more of the quiet type, but so was she. She found him less annoying then a lot of the other campers, and so accompanied him while he was doing his daily activities.
"Hey!" She said to him, looking from him to her quickly as she thought about what Shay was going to do, she seemed to be playing the piccolo or flute or something.. Concentrating.. Uh oh.. Joelle thought to herself, Out of all the things in the world, disturbing a child of Athena while they were working was never.. Ever. a good idea.. "Oh, this isn't going to be good.. Prepare yourself for a very angry daughter of Athena.." She said worriedly as she stepped next to Sebastian. Still checking him out a bit but finally diverting her eyes to look at the girl. She let out a sharp whistle that made Autumn (her hell hound) jump from out of the water to sitting next to her in a slightly-guarded position.
Shay Du Rone:
It would have indeed been an understatement to say that Shay was lost in her own little world. There was no stopping her muse today and she was simply flying on the wings of inspiration. Her pencil was a blur as she scribbled down notes and footnotes. Shay's handwriting was getting messier and messier as her hand fought to keep up with her brain and all the ideas that it was having. Shay loved this feeling. She was as they say, in the zone, and it was some place that she hadn't been in a very long time. It felt like a long awaited homecoming. She had never been more brilliant or inspired.
And then...everything came to an abrupt halt. The shout startled her so much that her hand jerked. She pressed the pencil down hard against the sheet music in her lap and it ripped a hole through the paper. The dull pain of the pencil stabbing her thigh though was nothing compared to the feeling of having her thoughts suddenly derailed. It wasn't a physical hurt just a feeling of sudden loss that was so deep that it shook her. If Shay had tried to explain this to anyone else, they would have said she was being melodramatic. But then again, no one but another child of Athena could fully understand unpleasant feelings that were washing over her right now. Shay's hands clenched into fists. She was not angry...not yet. This was just a futile attempt to hang on to the various ideas, the inspiration that had suddenly fled. When she got to grips with the fact that those things were not coming back anytime soon, Shay finally let the anger through. Suffice to say, there was a lot of it.
Her head whipped in the direction of the person who had shouted, feeling her lips curl up into something of a snarl. No...she did snarl though the guy was too far to hear it. She was off the boulder in one cat quick motion, hands gathering up her sheet music and her flute before she started to stalk down the beach toward the couple. What had that guy shouted? Shay had been too preoccupied, and now too angry to hear his exact words. Her brain supplied that it had something to do with lost clothes and her paranoia added that perhaps he was implying that she had something to do with it. Such a thought only made her angrier.
As she got closer, she took in the two demi gods standing there. If it bothered her, or piqued her interest, that the boy was only in his boxers and dripping wet, there was nothing in Shay's expression that betrayed it. Instead she looked more interested in the hellhound and by association the girl standing next to him. Shay didn't like dogs, they didn't like her either, but she could tell when a dog was guarding mode. The girl had to be from the Hades cabin and Shay knew that she had to watch out for her if it came down to a fight. In the mood Shay was in a fight seemed inevitable.
"What is it?" Shay hissed when she was close enough to the pair. "Generally when people come to the beach alone they would like things to stay that way." She met the boy's eyes, her own grey ones were like chips of Arctic ice. Shay's posture was very hostile and she held her flute like she was about to hit him over the head with it. Or stab him in the eye with it...whichever came first. "So you better have a good reason for calling out to me."
Sebastian Aiden:
Holy---! Sebastian almost jumped in alarm when Joelle suddenly appeared out of nowhere and beside him. She had this nasty habit of suddenly materializing when he least expects it. And then there's that hellhound, who always follows her around like a shadow. Don't even get him started with that. Truth be told, almost half of the time, that dog made Sebastian wonder if there were hellcats in Hades. Compared to Joelle, though, her pet really didn’t bother him that much as she did when he first met her. He had been sitting alone in a corner and she sat next to him in the same table in the Mess Hall, even though there were plenty of empty tables around. In his surprise, Sebastian almost spitted the milk he had been drinking. After that embarrassing plateful-of-food-on-his-lap incident last Summer caused by Keller, he really wasn’t expecting girls to come over to him, much less talk. But Joelle was cool, and Sebastian didn’t really think she liked him in a more-than-friendly way. She was always so... unaffected. Gradually, he relaxed around her, treating her like one of the boys. She had been one of those year-rounders, and soon became his constant companion at Half Blood Academy during the year. They weren’t really on the buddy-buddy level. It was more on the “less-than-close friends, more-than-acquaintances” kind of level. Joelle was always kind of quiet, which was probably the reason why Sebastian likes hanging around her so much. She didn’t really distract him when he trains. Joelle would just sit in a place, accompanying him. Sebastian had grown used to her presence because she was always around. She’d yell a word or two of encouragement, or advice him on his technique, and sometimes, she'd even spar with him. Most of the time, though, she was silent.
“Oh, for God’s sake! You know I hate it when you do that,” Sebastian said, turning to her and giving a half frown. He didn’t saw her checking him out, but even if he did, he would have probably just shrugged it off. He had gotten so accustomed to her around him, Sebastian regarded her like she was one of his siblings. Even now, as she is wearing her black bathing suit, he didn’t think wrongly of her.
"Oh, this isn't going to be good.. Prepare yourself for a very angry daughter of Athena.."
Sebastian was so busy chastising Joelle, that he didn’t realized what he had just done. He had only become aware of this when Joelle reminded him of it. Slowly turning his head in the direction where he had seen the person sitting on the boulder, he saw just in time a girl coming towards them. Sebastian really didn’t know why, but suddenly, everything around him started to slow down and the whole world around him faded. The first thing that he noticed were her eyes. Mercurial, was the first thing that came to his mind. She had a pair of silver ones, and they were beautiful and darkly-lashed. Her brows were finely-arched and winged, giving her an almost innocent like quality. Her eyes contrasted with her pale ivory skin, and he stared in helpless wonder on the way her long, dark brown hair was blown and played by the sea breeze. For a minute there, he thought she was just but a lovely vision. A Dream.
So taken was Sebastian with her, he didn’t saw that she was walking ---no, marching towards him, fuming mad. She was glaring at him murderously, but the only thing Sebastian saw were her eyes glinting like steel in the sun. He hadn’t realized he was holding his breath, until she was close enough within earshot and she hissed at him, not unlike a cat whose tail you’ve stepped on.
"What is it? Generally when people come to the beach alone they would like things to stay that way."
Instantly, he snapped back to reality. That lovely vision he had a minute ago was slowly turning into an image of a Fury. She had her… wait, is that a flute?... held up like a weapon between them, as if any wrong move on Sebastian’s part and he’d be sorry for it. Sebastian towered over the two girls, and the newcomer barely even reached his chin. He found her boldness quite admirable, though he almost laughed out loud at the thought of her beating him on the head. She was close to him, and he could almost smell the faint scent of strawberries and vanilla emanating from her. He reddened at this thought, and suddenly became fully conscious that here was a girl standing in front of him. Sebastian grabbed his shield from a rock and used it to cover his lower torso.
Sebastian cleared his throat. “Yeah, sorry about that,” he started, eyes downcast and looking at his toes in the sand. “My clothes got stolen, and as you can see, I’m in quite of a predicament...” Sebastian would have said more, had his Pegasus not chose that time to whinny and flap its wings, sending sand flying all over them. Since he had just gotten out of the water, and he was soaking wet, the sand particles clung to his body like glue, making him look like a desert monster or something. He had gotten sand on his mouth, too, and he spluttered to get them out. Somehow, though, doing so only made it worse, and he could feel them grating on his throat. Sebastian fell on all fours and choked. His shield lay forgotten. He gasped and spat on the ground multiple times. And he did that for full five minutes. If his face wasn’t covered in sand, the girls would have seen his face turning crimson. God, I didn’t train so hard just to die like this!, he thought almost desperately.
Finally, after a lot of coughing, he was relieved that he could at long last breathe normally again. He looked up and saw what ridiculous position he was in. He was kneeling, all covered in sand, in front of the girl’s feet. Inwardly groaning for looking like a stupid fool, he gave a weak smile and said a bit raspily, “Nice to meet you. I’m Sebastian Aiden.”
Joelle Morte:
“Oh, for God’s sake! You know I hate it when you do that,”
Joelle smiled at Sebastian's surprise that was plastered all over his face, "Well honestly, i thought you saw me. Sorry!" she said, shrugging to his shock. She looked over to Shay who was now marching her way over to them, flute in one hand and sheet music in the other. Her mood was anything but pleasant, like someone had just bashed her in the face with a soccer ball then laughed at her. Joe wasn't worried about herself, she found this entire situation very amusing in fact. But- she was worried about the man standing to her left, who at the moment was going all goo-goo eyed on the angry Athenian.
She rolled her eyes at him and tried to get his attention, giving up by the time Shay had stomped her way over to them. She seemed to have let out a skin crawling hiss that Joe thought only cats could do, raising her eyebrows at her, she watched for Sebastian's expression. He had went from 'thank the lord' to 'holy--' in just a matter of seconds.
Looking at Shay with an amused facial expression, Joelle realized that she wasn't very pleased with Autumn's presence. Smiling, she looked down to her hell hound, nodding for Autumn to relax because they weren't in any danger. Autumn did as she was told, laying down on the sandy floor before slowly drifting to sleep. This stance was a double combo, she got to sleep but could also be up and ready to fight within a Milli-second.
"What is it? Generally when people come to the beach alone they would like things to stay that way."
"Yeah, sorry about that, My clothes got stolen, and as you can see, I’m in quite of a predicament...”
Joe listened to them both converse, watching Sebastian reach over to grab his shield and cover his.. body, which made her laugh a bit. "I think what Sebastian is trying to say is, he didn't mean to disturb you and your music, he was just asking if you had seen his clothes anywhere.." Joelle said calmly as to not make her any angrier as she already was. About to interject again, Joe was cut off by the sudden amount of sand that seemed to blur her vision, and cover her from head to toe. Seeing as she was just in the water a minute ago, she too was now covered with sand particles.
Wiping the sand from her eyes, she heard a sort of coughing and gagging noise. Immediately looking at Sebastian who seemed to have tumbled over, coughing out large amounts of spit and sand. Joelle gasped at the sight and tried to help him up, wondering if her powers could help him at all. But before she could try, he stopped choking, coughing out a mess of sand before speaking in a raspy, crackly voice.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Sebastian Aiden."
She looked at him over, "Gods all mighty! Are you alright?" She asked him, patting his back a little before looking back to Shay. She couldn't tell what her facial expression was because of all the sand smoke, but figured it was either concerned or still angry. Possibly even a few in between. Autumn had gotten up from where she was sleeping by now, running over to Sebastian to see if he was alright. She didn't really ever communicate with others other then Joelle, so she was surprised when she whimpered at him a little. "Well anyways, we are really sorry that we disturbed you.." She said to shay sincerely, Joe wasn't normally so kind to children of Athena, they liked to bug her with a lot of questions about her hell hound and hades and things. She mostly thought they were a little melodramatic, but understood that they were peeved about things like their music and poetry. Stuff they held very dear.
Shay Du Rone:
Around certain circles, Shay was known for being intense, hostile and prickly. All of those characteristics were out to play at the moment and she continued to stare at the boy, not relaxing her posture or her cold gaze one bit. It irked her that he was taller and that she would have to look up at him to maintain eye contact. However, Shay just used that irritation to fuel her anger. At this point in time there was nothing that the boy could do or say that would appease her. As it was, the dazed look that he had on his face as she walked up already had Shay pegging him for a big idiot. It was not really helping his case at all when he hesitated to speak.
She was all but ready to beat him over the head when he voiced an apology and said something about his clothes getting stolen. His words confirmed what she had been thinking earlier and if it was possible, Shay became even more defensive. "I had nothing to do with that." She said sternly, shifting her weight a little and falling into a subtle fighting stance as he reached for his shield. In her anger she did not realize that he was only covering himself up. Shay understood the concept of modesty and knew that there was a time and place for it but seeing that they were on the beach...she found it needless and irrational. Shay herself wasn't all that covered up as all she had on were shorts, her bikini top and a men's white shirt top it all off. In her mind, he was getting ready to fight because he had grabbed his shield and a fight was exactly what she had been spoiling for.
She would have started to taunt him if it weren't for his Pegasus acting up. Shay turned away and shut her eyes as the animal flapped up a mini sandstorm. She raised to cover her mouth and nose as well, thinking about just how much she disliked animals in general. When it was all over she looked back to the boy, wanting to scold him for not having better control on his ride but found him crouching by her feet. Apparently he had forgotten that you had to keep your mouth and eyes closed in a sandstorm.
"Charmed." Shay said dryly when he introduced himself. She didn't bother telling her what her name. Truth be told she didn't want to do that. It wasn't as if they were going to be speaking to each other on a daily basis or anything like that. When the Hades girl spoke up, Shay looked deliberately in her direction. She nodded at the girl's words as if to say, 'Right. It was a mistake. A very stupid mistake.' Out loud, Shay added, "Maybe, your hellhound can sniff out where the thief went?" Shay had no interest in helping Sebastian but she did want to see this thief and give the person a piece of her mind. Shay had her sheet music stolen from her the year before and didn't take very kindly to thieves who caused problems. She glanced down toward the boy and the dog that was now by his side and smiled very unkindly at the sight.
Sebastian Aiden:
If there is one time in his life that he’d wish the earth would open up and swallow him whole, this instance definitely takes the cake. Sebastian couldn’t recall any moment more embarrassing than the one he was on right now. Even the whole spaghetti and meatballs on his pants at the Mess Hall last year couldn’t even compare to the mortification he was feeling at the present. It was horrifying enough for him to stand almost naked in front of a girl he barely knew, but to choke at her feet? The only thing he was thankful for was that Keller wasn’t present. Sebastian could almost imagine his brother laughing and rolling hysterically on the ground, while Sebastian's there, shame-faced like an actor who had forgotten his lines in front of a huge audience. Or maybe even that was too tame an analogy.
Sebastian wanted to stand up, show them that that didn’t affect him a bit, that it was nothing. And he was going to, except that "girlie" over there looked at him haughtily as if Sebastian was way beneath her. Of course, because he was thinking of so many things at that moment, it didn't cross his mind that, literally speaking, she had to look down at him. He was still on the ground, sitting on his calves, face turned up towards her reverently like she was one of the Olympians.
“Charmed.”
His eyebrows flew up. Charmed? That’s it? Not even a name? He stopped. And then checked his reaction. Er.. Not that I want to learn her name or anything! He hastily thought, trying to convince himself. Of course not! That would be ridiculous! I don’t want to know her name! I don’t have time for girls... At this, he stole a glance at her again. Besides, she was too … Uh…stunni --- Wha-? Quickly, he gave himself a mental shake to chase all those kind of ideas away. No! I meant, scary! He huffed. Yeah, that’s right. Scary! A very very VERY scary demi-goddess! And scary definitely wasn’t his type. As if females weren’t freaky enough already… Even as Sebastian thought defensively of it, though, he didn’t take his eyes off of her.
Gods almighty! Are you alright?
He sensed rather than saw Joelle running towards him. He felt her pat his back. “Yeah, I’m fine. Don’t worry about it.” He turned around, so that only Joelle would see, and mouthed discreetly, What’s her name? He gave her a look that says not to give him away, and slowly stood up. He brushed off the sand from his body---- first, from his hair, then his face, then his arms and chest, and finally, his legs. As he did, he threw a very dirty look at his winged horse, who whinnied a bit as if he enjoyed Sebastian’s hostility. Sighing, Sebastian rubbed the back of his neck, wondering confusedly why "girlie" was acting so lividly towards him. As far as he could remember (and that’s saying something because Sebastian remembers everything!) he never did her any harm. He thought maybe it was one of those baffling things girls do that he couldn't understand a bit.
"Well anyways, we are really sorry that we disturbed you.."
It was as if a light bulb suddenly went on in his head. He’d heard Athena kids were always so uptight when it comes to their work. Oh, so that’s it! That’s probably the reason why she’s so mad, he thought. Well, then, apologize! Say something to her! Say anything! He practically mentally screamed. Calming himself, he tried to put himself in his brother’s shoes. If Keller was here, what would he do?, he reflected. Sebastian was never good with girls, and he never viewed himself as the gods’ gift to women. He was awkward with them. His brother, however, flirts with every living breathing female as long as it comes near enough to him. He was a natural at it.. And yes, he was quite arrogant about it, too. What was that advice Keller gave him to appease a girl’s anger? He furrowed his brows as searched his brain for an answer. Shower them with compliments? Sebastian looked at the stranger and thought what was the best thing to flatter her with.. Her smarts maybe? I mean, she IS Athena’s daughter, as what Joelle had revealed earlier. Her looks? Sure, why not? Keller was always saying how vain girls can get.
“Uh… You…Y-you have great breasts!” he burst out loud, almost as simultaneously as she said, "Maybe, your hellhound can sniff out where the thief went?" And then, he was blabbing nonstop. “And legs! You have a pair of nice legs too!” Sebastian had no idea why he said that. It was as if his mouth had a brain of its own. By the time he uttered the last sentence, his heart was already beating so fast, and he was hyperventilating a bit. Somehow, he knew he was heading for trouble, and a feeling of doom began to sweep over him. Just when he thought things couldn't get any worse…
Gulping, Sebastian knew he was a goner. Turning a pleading look to Joelle, he wished that she had telepathic powers because right at that moment, his mind was screaming, “Please stop me. Please stop me from talking NOW.”
He prepared himself to run. If worse comes to worst, and she decides she wants to kill him, fighting wasn't an option for him. She is a girl. And Sebastian can't bring himself to hurt one. Even if it was for self-defense.
Joelle Morte:
Joelle calmed her nerves once she heard Sebastian's conformation that he was alright, she watched him as he introduced himself to Shay, who in return kept her discomfort and sourly replied with, "Charmed." Looking from Shay to Sebastian, she watched for their expressions, wondering what they were thinking at the moment. Finally her gaze landed on Sebastian, his mouth kept twitching in different directions but he kept his eyes on Shay. Never looking away but for a second when he got up.
She watched him as he slowly turned toward her and discreetly mouthed "What’s her name?" before giving her a look that clearly told her to not give him away. Then quickly turning back to Shay. Joelle tried to think of a way to distract Shay while she told him and quickly thought of the perfect way to, without moving her lips she let out a sharp whistle that not even demigods could hear, much like a dog whistle but for.. Pegasus. But not just any Pegasus. Her Pegasus.
Most children of Hades were despised by the creations of Poseidon, but this particular one seemed to absolutely LOVE Joelle. Chiron told her it was a very rare breed for Pegusi, for most of them were all white or much like normal horses. But Joelle's... was a pure black stallion, with large broad black wings that could cover the sun. It was the only one that was at Camp Half Blood. Joe knew that campers weren't aloud to claim particular Pegasus as their own, but seeing as Joelle was the only one that it would let ride it, she considered it as hers. She was the one who taught it how to find her and how to get out of the stable.
Without a moments notice, suddenly a loud nay came from Sebastian's Pegasus. Soon fallowed by a bit louder nay and a run-in landing. Joelle watched as it finally slowed down, pulled its front hooves into the air with a loud nay then trotted over to her. It stuck its nose in her face as it blew out warm air that Joelle assumed to be alick my nostril. She smiled back and whispered, "hey big boy.." as she started to pet the fur on its face.
Joe looked over to Shay who seemed to be a little surprised and a little annoyed that there was more animals. She didn't look like an animal person. As Blue (Joelle's Pegasus) sniffed around, it seemed to cover Sebastian and Joelle from view. The perfect time to tell him, "It's Shay Du Rone, don't start calling her it though, she'll get suspicious." she whispered so low that only Sebastian could hear.
Pretending nothing happened, Joelle looked over to Blue, and started to walk him over to one of the trees. "Stay here buddy, ok? Thanks for coming when i whistled.." She said to him, watching as his head nodded in a 'ok' type way before she returned to the conversation. "Sorry about that, i thought this would be a good time to bring Blue so that we could possibly find the thief of Sebastian's pants. My name is Joelle by the way, i already know who you are though, it's not like we will be talking a lot in the future though.." she spoke to Shay, with a nod.
Apparently she had come back within a perfect amount of time because just then Sebastian blurted the most ridiculous sentence on the planet at the same time Shay said something.
“Uh… You…Y-you have great breasts!”"Maybe, your hell hound can sniff out where the thief went?"“And legs! You have a pair of nice legs too!”
Joelle could practically hear Sebastian's breathing as the suspension between the two started to rise, anger and fear starting to creep slowly into the conversation. She looked over to Sebastian with an expression that clearly said 'WHAT THE F-', her eyes wide with shock as she tried to shake what just happened. Does he WANT to Die? she practically screamed in her thoughts. She didn't want to even look at Shay at the moment, in fear that if she turned her head she would suddenly snap and bash her over the head with her flute.
She looked back to Sebastian, like the situation could get any worse.. he gulped. HE GULPED. One of the first signs of weakness and fear. She watched in horror as he quickly turned his head to her. His eyes pleading and screaming for her to do something.. fast.
Turning quickly to the daughter of Athena, Joelle immediately grabbed the flute out of her hand and stepped in front of Sebastian. Sure, Sebastian was a big boy, he could take care of himself. But she knew that when it came to girls, his face was going to become a slushy because he refused to hurt them. Joelle on the other hand, was a girl. Not only a girl but a daughter of Hades, one of the big three, one of the most feared, one of the kind of people who would throw themselves into the fire if it saved their friends. And that was just what Joe was doing, she was throwing herself into the fire.
Snapping her fingers, she watched as the area of the beach they were on became slightly darker then the rest. Not only did the atmosphere become dark, but suddenly a small shadow-like rope appeared around Sebastian's mouth, preventing him from speaking.
"Please excuse me for taking away your flute, it is a fine instrument and i respect those who play it. I will handle it with care until i give it back to you. Also, Please pardon my friend Sebastian, he is not equipped with the right mindset when it comes to women. And has gotten some Extremely horrible advise from his brother Keller that he probably regrets ever listening to right now. He probably thought this was going to help our dilemma but it Obviously made things worse, and i think using Autumn to find the thief is a great idea, you should take all your anger out on them once we find out who did it.." Joe said to Shay sincerely, she spoke very quickly but tried to stay clear and intelligent. She sent Sebastian a look that said 'Keller is stupid, You should know better' before continuing.
"I hope that you will forgive him for his stupidity in thinking Keller's words could help, along with all the other predicaments that seem to be happening to you today." She spoke as she started to lift Shay's flute, "Here's your flute back, I'm sorry for taking it away- I just didn't want you to bash Sebastian or I in the head while i was talking, i know that i would if i was you.. But only the god's know what i would do if i were you though.." She said, lifting her voice a little at the end as a way to lighten the mood. Snapping Joelle's fingers again, the mood of the atmosphere went back to normal, the small rope breaking as if it was a cloud then disappearing.
Joe was tired of all of this.. it was just too much for a day at the beach, So much drama and so much anger was in the air, all over a little thing like yelling at an Athena child.. Oi vai..
Shay Du Rone:
Despite Joelle's apology, there was still a large part of Shay that wanted to rail at the pair. There were so many things she wanted to say to them and not all of them were insults. She wanted to tell them and make them understand just how much a stupid mistake and some carelessly shouted words had cost her. Shay liked to give off the impression of being super confident but she didn't think that she'd be able to have ideas like that ever again. All those frustrated words though were stuck in her throat. There were too many of them and her agitated mind could not pick a single one out. Besides, she didn't think that they would understand. It would be like ranting at a brick wall. Deep breaths...deep breaths... Shay told herself, a part of her wanting to stalk off right then and there. And she would have done so too if it weren't for the appearance of that all black Pegasus.
Her grey eyed gaze darted up wards when the creature neighed and for a moment Shay thought that there would be more horsey type trouble coming. The Pegasus that was with Sebastian had caused enough trouble and Shay could feel the sand in her hair. That was going to take a lot of time to wash out later. Her expression turned curious though when the black stallion landed and made a beeline for Joelle. Shay had learned that the Pegusi hated the children of Hades. In her first year at camp she had witnessed a Pegusi try to kick a Hades child because he got too close. It had not been a pretty sight. It was an understatement to say that Shay's curiosity was piqued by this strange interaction. This curiosity and the questions that came along with it very nearly drowned out the anger that she had felt earlier. Oh she was still annoyed but at that moment she wanted to pull Joelle aside and ask just how and why this Pegasus acted the way it did around her. She was too busy looking at the animal, trying to pinpoint what exactly made it different that she didn't realize that Sebastian and Joelle were exchanging some information about her.
She watched as Joelle walked the Pegasus (she called him Blue) to some shade and started to mentally prepare all the questions that she wanted to ask the other girl concerning it's weird behavior. Shay had almost forgotten about Sebastian by this time but then he had to open his mouth and utter those outrageous things. For the second time that day, he single handedly made her mind go unpleasantly blank. For a moment all Shay could do was stare at him. She was aware that her mouth was hanging open and immediately closed it. "Pardon me?!"
Joelle was right to take the flute out of her hold though, only the gods knew what Shay might have done to Sebastian with it. As it was her hand had already been in motion before Joelle stepped between her and Sebastian the idiot. When Joelle started to explain that it had only been a bad choice of words and advice on Sebastian's part, Shay could only roll her eyes. Taking her flute back from the other girl, she tossed Sebastian a dirty look before saying. "Foster is his brother? That explains it." Yes. Shay knew who Keller was. He had tried to flirt with her a few Summer's back and she still had the bad taste of it in her mouth. "Until now I was assuming that he just had a little too much time spent in the sun. Now I see that his problems run deeper then that." Shay continued archly, questioning Sebastian's intelligence like he wasn't there. But she hadn't completely forgotten about him though, and reached up to twitch the shirt she was wearing closed. She hadn't know that the Sons of Apollo could be perverts but it was best to be safe.
But back to business. "How will your Pegasus help to find the thief?" Shay asked then. "And for that matter, why is it friendly with you?" That question was a little bit blunt, but then again this was Shay and she was all bluntness.
Sebastian Aiden
Sebastian frowned a bit when Joelle’s black Pegasi suddenly appeared. Again, out of nowhere.
Like its mistress. And that creepy dog.
He looked left to right, wondering if he was indeed at the beach and not at the zoo. He thought, Okay, this is getting absurd. We’ve got three demi-gods and three animals. Are we expecting any more beasts? Cretan Bull?.. No? How about a Calydonian Boar? Or a Nemean Lion? Perhaps just squirrels then. Maybe from “girlie” over here. He smiled drily. Oh, happy days. Sebastian’s own horse must have sensed his thoughts too, because it gave a loud snort and started stomping on the ground. Sebastian scowled at it, as if to say, “Don’t even think about it, pal. You’ve done enough damage.” His thoughts were interrupted, though, when he heard Joelle whisper something to him, and quickly realized that what she was doing was just a distraction.
Shay Du Rone.
Her name sounds so familiar, and he wondered how it would sound like when he said it. He could almost feel it burn on his lips. Feel the words roll out from his tongue... But of course, he can’t very well say it here. She’s within earshot. Shay Du Rone… He could swear he’d heard that name before…
And then, he had to go and open up his mouth.
Just when he thought, Oh, it couldn’t get any worse than this, something worse did happen. What was that saying mortals say? If anything can go wrong, it will? The Gods have a very weird and twisted sense of humor. He could almost sense them laughing above him.
Shay.Du.Rone. Something clicked in his brain and his eyes widened. Holy---! She’s THAT girl. He had overheard some guys talking in the arena during archery practice how funny Paul Haxon walks. One of them commented that the reason why Haxon does that is because Shay Du Rone kicked him so hard in the balls, he was permanently…uh… impaired. Sebastian really didn’t think much about it during that time. He thought those guys were either drunk or just plain dumb, because they all started laughing about it after. He didn’t get the joke, though. But now… now that he’s face to face with the Fury/Vision, he wondered how much of what those guys were saying were true. He gave a small shudder behind Joelle. Slowly and discreetly, he picked up his shield he had dropped, to cover his lower torso again. Er, just to be safe.
Yeah, he should have just kept quiet. Sebastian couldn’t, for the love of Zeus!, figure out what possessed him to say those things. It was like temporary insanity. He was just thankful Joelle was there to save his ass. Granted, she bound his mouth to keep him from talking with that black shadow… thing, and it hurt a bit because it was so tight, but he was still in one piece. No mangled body parts. No bleeding wounds. No funny walks. And Yes, he was glad for that. Who knows what destruction Shay would have been capable of if Joelle hadn’t taken her flute away from her?
He shook his head to clear those thoughts. There was one thing that was bugging him, though. It was driving him nuts. Sebastian was confused why he was so drawn to her. It was crazy and so very unlike him, and it was something entirely alien to him. He couldn’t really understand why he was so fascinated with everything about her. He watched her closely, stared as if his very being depended on her.
"Foster is his brother? That explains it. Until now I was assuming that he just had a little too much time spent in the sun. Now I see that his problems run deeper then that."
He raised an eyebrow. His immediate thought was that she was one of Keller’s many ex-girlfriends. She was furious at his brother, and Sebastian thought that, well, given that it was Keller, he probably did something idiotic to piss Shay off. They most likely broke up. And now, she was taking her anger out at his relatives. And in this case, Sebastian. He stiffened. Apart from the initial feeling of being immediately judged, a huge wage of disappointment swept over him. Keller’s Ex. That single phrase kept flashing like a neon sign inside his mind and it baffled him why it affects him so. It’s not like I like her or anything. I mean, if I did like her, I still wouldn’t make a move on her because one, she’s scary. And two, she used to be with my brother. Isn’t there’s a rule against that? Sebastian looks at her. But that’s just theoretically speaking, of course, he said quickly and quite defensively. It’s not like I’m planning to do it or anything.
He got a bit frustrated trying to convince himself with ideas he knew he couldn’t win. He tried to mask his growing frustration with himself for finding Shay quite attractive, and put on an impassive face as if he was insulted. Turning to Joelle, he said stiffly, ignoring Shay’s comment, “We better find those thieves fast. The sooner we catch them, the sooner we can get rid of Her Highness over here.” He said that, partly because Shay was acting all high and mighty, and partly because she had been giving him cold looks since the moment they’ve met. She was like a Glacier Queen. Or an Ice Princess. He stared into her eyes and searched for some warmth in those stormy gray orbs. He found none.
Turning to Shay, Sebastian mockingly gave a mock bow and gestured towards his Pegasus. “Your horse awaits, Princess.”
Joelle Morte
"Foster is his brother? That explains it. Until now I was assuming that he just had a little too much time spent in the sun. Now I see that his problems run deeper then that."
Joelle listened with an intruging attitude, everyone seemed to absolutly despise Sebastian's brother, Keller. Of course she did as well, but gave him pitty for all of his misdeeds and didn't think of him as horrbly. Maybe it was because he hadn't treated her with such pig-like attraction like he did with most women. She nodded to Shay with sincereity, but before she could reply, Sebastian had suddenly turned to her with immediat disgust that completely sent Joelle for a 360 before finally shaking out her confusion to actually hear what he was saying.
“We better find those thieves fast. The sooner we catch them, the sooner we can get rid of Her Highness over here.”
She raised her eyebrows with much surprise as he proceeded on with mocking Shay with a bow and saying "Your horse awaits, Princess.” with enough enthusiasm to probably bring her father into the situation. Though what he said was cruel, Joelle couldn't help but crack a small smirk at his words. Disguising her smirk as a frown so that Shay wouldn't be angry, she looked at Sebastian puzzled. "Uhm.. Indeed we should probably start.." she said hesitantly, looking over at Shay with a dazed expression.
"How will your Pegasus help to find the thief? And for that matter, why is it friendly with you?"
Before answering, the first part of Shay's question, she felt herself being a little caught off guard as she said the last of her question. Why would it be friendly with me? Is that some type of trick question? Just because I am a daughter of Hades that means that every living creature has to be either in rage with me or in fear!? Joelle started thinking, her temper starting to rise continuelly. This girl was starting to get on her bad side, not only did she have to be so distraut with Sebastian about a little thing as interuption but now she wanted to pick on Her? Who did she think she was! Hera!? Calm down Joelle, you're getting worked up for nothing.. calm down spoke the little good concience in her mind, NO! RIP HER TO SHREDS! She's practically saying that You of all the demigods shouldn't have a pegasus.. said the evil side of her.
Joe could feel herself starting to get a headache and tried to shake everything off, looking Shay in the eye as she spoke. "How else do you think we are going to find a theif who is probably hiding somewhere far away by now? walking? I don't think so.. I am going to ride on Blue while you and Mr.Man over here," She pointed her thumb to the bowing Sebastian,"Ride his pegasus." She finished with a smug smile that only Hades would be proud of.
She thought of blowing the last part of Shay's question off but decided she should probably answer it, "Well, Blue is friendly with Me because out of all of the children of Hades, Zeus singled me out to be the most responsible. He requested Poseidon to create a most beautiful, bold, and rare Pegasus, who would be given to me and me only. The day i came to camp, Chiron found Blue up on Half-Blood Hill. He was neighing and fussing all about, he had a golden pendant wrapped around his neck with the symbol of the Gods printed boldly on it. Afraid to approach him, Chiron let Blue follow him into the camp and let him stay in the stables with all the rest of the pegasuses. I, being the delinquent that i am, decided to go and visit the winged horses, they were so beautiful and i wanted to touch one so badly. But children of Hades are forbidden to be around them, for they are very hostile when it comes to us children. I had seen what they had done to most of my siblings, but didn't care what would happened to me. I was determined. "
"Walking into the stables, i thought i was going to be immediatly hurt, but instead.. i wasn't. They all were so calm and cooperative. Like they were waiting for me. I went to the back of the stables where i saw the most magnificent of them all, Blue. He Scared the daylights out of me, He jumped out of his stall and slowly approached me before i finally gave in and started to pet him. Ever since then, i've found out that he has only let me ride him out of all of the campers." She said proudly with a smile, watching Blue as he nodded in agreement. Without another seconds notice or a reply from Shay, Blue trotted over to Joelle as if he was a show horse. Wings flapping every now and then in anticipation, He knelt down for Joe to be able to get up as she went over and did so, readying herself for flight. "Shall we go then?" She said, sitting straight as she looked down at Shay and Sebastian with a small smile.
Shay Du Rone
So far, Shay thought that she was doing a good job of ignoring Sebastian. When he wasn't speaking or doing something truly idiotic this was an easy enough task to perform. Now she could understand why Vesper hated the Apollo cabin so much, if Keller and Sebastian were anything to go by the whole cabin be full of those distasteful mentally challenged sorts. Shay didn't really have close ties with the Apollo cabin but she was starting to be thankful that she didn't. Unfortunately Sebastian had to open his mouth yet again, filling the air with some inane remark. His insult sounded like something that could have been heard on a grade school playground and the downward turn of Shay's lips as she heard this was proof enough that she was unimpressed.
Turning her grey eyes back to Joelle, Shay saw that the other girl was looking surprised at Sebastian's change in attitude. It made Shay wonder if the Apollo boy suffered some sort of crippling mental illness that made him act the way he did. And since Shay wasn't a person to keep her musings to herself, she was soon voicing this out. "Does your friend suffer from schizophrenia?" She asked archly, glancing at Sebastian with her cold grey eyes. He was bowing to her now, indicating that she should get on his Pegasus. Shay didn't think so, the animal looked just as unreliable as he was. Besides, after his comment about her breasts and legs she didn't really want to be in close proximity to him. On the other hand, she didn't really want to ask Joelle if she could ride Blue. The Pegasus was of an entirely different breed then what Shay was used to, and it wouldn't be wise to just hop on without asking questions.
It seemed though that her question had rubbed Joelle the wrong way. Shay had not meant to offend but she wasn't going to apologize just because her question was taken the wrong way. The nature of wisdom was to ask questions however it was not her fault when they were misinterpreted. It was not her fault if someone got their feelings hurt. When would people learn to just answer a question. "I see." She said calmly, meeting the other girl's eyes. If Joelle thought to intimidate her, it would not work. She knew that as a child of one of the Big Three, Joelle was more powerful then her. But she also knew that it took more then just power to win the day.
Shay was about to suggest that they go on foot. It would have been much, much easier to track the thief that way then from the air. But Joelle had already mounted Blue and Sebastian was still standing there next to his Pegasus. His whole posture seemed like a challenge and Shay was never one to turn a challenge down. "Well I would have said that it would be easier to track the thief on the ground." While Joelle had been telling her to story of how she had came to be gifted with Blue, Shay had noticed a different set of footprints. They were at an angle that suggested that they couldn't have belonged to her or Joelle or Sebastian. Shay assumed that they were standing at the spot where Sebastian's clothes were and if her assumption was correct, those footprints belonged to the thief.
"By why waste energy on something like this." She smiled, but only with her lips. "I think your hellhound can track the thief on the ground and we'll just follow it. At least we'll have the element of surprise when we catch up to them." Yes, Shay was bossy. She was Athena's daughter and taking command or a situation, planning a plan of attack came naturally to her. She stared at Sebastian's Pegasus before approaching. Reaching out, she petted the animal on the neck and it was an oddly gentle touch. It was going to be doing her a favor but letting her ride it, and it wasn't wise to piss off a creature that was going to be carrying you through the air. "Knights generally wear pants." She told Sebastian haughtily as she walked past him. "I'm not surprised by this epic fail, maybe you'd like to petition to be court jester instead? I'd have fun throwing eggs at you." And then she was up on the Pegasus. Her motions fluid and practiced. Shay reached out and ran her hand over the Pegasus's neck again, petting it comfortingly. See, she could be nice. But not to people.
