Sebastian Aiden:
"Does your friend suffer from schizophrenia?"
Sebastian really couldn’t blame Shay and Joelle for thinking he was crazy. The abrupt change in his demeanor could probably cause even the most impartial person to cast the wrong judgment on him. From embarrassed to scared to frosty in just a few minutes? If the roles were reversed and he was in their shoes, he’d probably have thought of them as lunatics, too.
"Knights generally wear pants. I'm not surprised by this epic fail, maybe you'd like to petition to be court jester instead? I'd have fun throwing eggs at you."
He watched, cool and emotionless, every little way she moved. How her hand ran over to his Pegasus’ soft, white fur. How she gracefully leaped up and rode on the animal as if it wasn’t too much effort. Typical, he thought. He had expected something of that sort of her comeback, and he was a bit grateful that she didn’t disappoint. The insult hurled was like a douse of cold water for him. It was a rude awakening, and he thought it was just the right antidote for this madness. His usual calm and detached attitude was fast returning. “Eggs?” he repeated, lips forming a straight line and eyes stony. “Her Highness is too kind. I was under the impression you’d rather throw stones instead,” he said sarcastically, again with a bow.
He turned quickly around to untie the rope from the tree, giving one the notion that he wasn’t interested much in what she was going to say after. It was the end of discussion for him. He was tired. It’s been a long day. He was a guy who loved tranquility. All he wanted was a break, some peace and quiet. Was that too much to ask? Were the gods playing a cruel joke on him? He didn’t need another complication. And Shay Du Rone was just that. Another complication.
Back rigid and shoulders stiff, he calmly walked over beside Shay and climbed on his Pegasus. He did not want to start a conversation with her and thought it was best to be silent. He’d probably say something stupid again and piss her off. Wouldn’t want to wake up the beast now, do we?, he thought wryly. That would be tempting fate. As if the sleeping dragon wasn’t bad enough...
As soon as he got into a sitting position, he became strangely aware of her bare legs making contact with his own, and he tried to move farther.
She was close. So close.
And there was that Strawberry/Vanilla scent again. It wafted in the air, making him feel drugged and dizzy. Sebastian closed his eyes, unconsciously leaning towards her. Mmm… She smells nice, he thought as he inhaled in her scent. He was much too aware of her presence--- of her slight frame in front of him. And who wouldn’t? She was so near, he could feel her warmth radiating from her body. She was rapidly filling his senses. It was a good thing too that Shay's hair was down, covering her neck. If it hadn’t, he wondered where he would have gotten the strength to turn away.
Then he suddenly realized what he was doing, and he mentally smacked himself. He had to take deep breaths to calm himself. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Sebastian scolded himself for the way his thoughts were going. He straightened up in his seat, fixing his gaze straight ahead, away from anything even remotely related to her. It was pure agony. Just slow, sweet, excruciating death. Sebastian wondered what he was getting himself into.
It was a good thing Shay wasn’t facing him. If she had, she would have seen the almost tortured expression on his face. Sebastian was becoming very conscious of the fact that she was in front of him, and he gulped, face reddening because this was the closest he had been to a girl. Any girl. And it was very unnerving on his part. Oh, so this is what it feels like to suffer.
He ran a hand through his thick dark hair in frustration, making it stand on ends. What am I doing? He thought it was utterly ridiculous all these pretense he wasn’t affected by her, but he also knew that if he’d even give her the slightest sign of weakness, she’d tear him to shreds. It wasn't in his nature to feel vulnerable either. He knew that she thought lowly of him. What she’s currently doing now to me is a preview. He was annoyed at himself for his ambivalent feelings towards her, yet his outward expression only grew more impassive by the minute, never betraying any hint of his inner turmoil at the present. She's Keller's ex, for crying out loud!
Since he had to hold on to the reins of his Pegasus, and he was behind her, Sebastian had to have his arms around Shay. He positioned his arms, so that his skin wouldn’t have to touch any part of hers, but found it considerably difficult not to. He felt odd in his seat since his arms were at awkward angles.
Without any warning, his Pegasus suddenly galloped at full speed and took off, flying higher than what was necessary. Sebastian wasn’t caught off guard, though. He had gotten used to his Pegasus having a mind of its own and taking off like that. What he didn’t expect, however, were the sudden dives, soars, and loops done by his hyperactive mount. Because of the sudden acceleration, Sebastian would suddenly find himself pressed up against Shay when they collide. That’s it! No more oats and sugar for you, pal, he thought, gritting his teeth. Fighting to stay on his crazy horse, as well as subtly guarding Shay from falling over, Sebastian held on tightly to the reins, his arms serving like rails for Shay. Everything was so fast. Everything was so blurry. He couldn’t see where they were going anymore.
Then the roller coaster ride stopped sharply, and they were soon hovering on air, his Pegasus nonchalantly calm, as if nothing exciting just happened. Sebastian willed his pounding heart to slow down, wondering if its sudden increase in speed was caused by his Pegasus’ crazy antics or the very close proximity of Shay to him. He angrily muttered an audible curse to his beast and let out a huge exhausted sigh.
He scooted farther from her, giving a safe, gentlemanly distance as to not give her any more wrong ideas of him being a pervert. Maneuvering, he flew their mount close beside Joelle’s Blue. The flying motions of the Pegasus as they rode on it made staying away from her quite difficult. Oftentimes, he would unwillingly bump against her, his bare chest colliding with her back, and he would immediately back off as he had been burned. It proved a Herculean task on his part to be controlling the reins and maneuvering his horse, at the same time, maintaining his balance as he keep on moving away from Shay. He wondered how long he could keep this up without falling and cracking his head.
The wind blew her hair back as they flew in the sky, and he got the full impact of her smell. It was very distracting, and Sebastian shifted uncomfortably. He shouldn’t be feeling more than he should.
He tried to put on a blank look, lest Joelle saw him and start to ask questions he couldn’t possible answer. Joelle was much too perceptive for her own good. "Chiron in a bikini. Chiron in a bikini. Chiron in a bikini," he muttered over and over again, as if reminding himself at the same time. That did it. It was an effective cure to his nervousness, but the bad image he had conjured up in his mind was causing nauseating effects on him, and Sebastian momentarily had the urge to throw up.
It felt like eons had passed before they reached Joelle, though it was only a few seconds. “Seen anything yet?” he yelled gruffly, almost edgily, knuckles turning white from gripping too tightly the reins. He wanted to get this over and done.
This torment had gone far too long already.
Joelle Morte:
"Does your friend suffer from schizophrenia?"
Joelle turned her gaze from Sebastian back to Shay as she listened to her question, "I'm not sure, but I think I am starting to think so.." She said hesitantly, looking at Sebastian with a raised eye brow.
It wasn't like him to be so sarcastic, but seeing as the situation between him and Shay seemed to be getting worse by the minute; Joe wasn't surprised. She watched them both as they got onto Sebastian's pegasus, seeing his expression when he realised that he would have to ride behind Shay. It reminded her of a man eating a burger then realising there was a long hair in it.
She couldn't help but chuckle at the sight though, deciding not to mask her laughter as a cough or something. She kind of wanted Sebastian to know that she noticed his little tantrum. Slightly listening in, Joelle heard their little chat about Sebastian becoming a jester and having eggs/rocks thrown at him. Gods, their like children.. the next thing you know they are gonna call eachother names like butthead and fatty.. she thought to herself, making a mental note to teach Sebastian how to say better comebacks then 'Well you smell bad!' Oi vai was that a disaster or what.. she thought, shaking her head at the memory.
Sebastian had got into a argument with one of the children of Hermes about something concerning his garden probably that it looks like one of the Demeter children attacked the Apollo cabin.. and he got all budheard about it and let's just say it ended with a hysterically laughing Hermes child.. and a laughing Joelle in secret. Only boy i've ever met who can probably kick a pebble and that pebble will suddenly crush the worlds last super bug or something.. He's like a magnet for humiliating situations.. she thought, smiling a little at her own little joke.
Joelle sat up straight as she grabbed ahold of Blue's hair and wrapped it around her hands, she didn't feel like falling off today. Which could be quite common when riding Blue, he was the fastest of the Pegasi at camp. She found that out when one of her sibling's let all of the pegasi loose and Blue seemed to be racing them all to the shore. Then he won by a land slide. But Joe wasn't one to brag about it, it wasn't like she had anyone to brag to though. She wasn't a daughter of Hades for nothing, she liked her privacy and kept to her loneliness when it came to it. But she tended to realise that she was becoming more and more like her father, and tried to start to open up a bit more starting with Sebastian. He looked sad in the dining hall, sitting by himself at a distant table. So who better to talk to then someone who was alone?
Breathing out a contented sigh, she watched as Sebastian and Shay bolted into the air, their pegasus doing a few tricks before finally calming down. Probably Showing off to Blue haha.. she thought, a lot of the pegasi did that, it was a common thing. Joe shook her head as Blue did a short run then quickly lifted into the air, soaring through the sky as it flapped its powerful black wings. Blue was one for pride, he knew that doing silly tricks weren't very impressive and always opted for grace and conserving his energy.
Joe let out another sharp whistle for Autumn to start searching for tracks, she had gotten a good wiff of Sebastian before they lifted off so that she could find his clothes. She watched as Autumn sniffed around a bit before letting out a howl then running into the direction of camp. She remembered that Shay had seen a trail earlier, and watched as Autumn started to follow it.
“Seen anything yet?”
She looked behind her shoulder to see Sebastian and Shay flying close behind, she gave him and Shay a triumphant grin before replying, "Yup! The trail is hot and the hound is on it. Follow me, Won't be long now!" She called back to them. Turning back infront of her, Blue started to curve with the wind, and move swiftly through the air currents. It was like floating on a soft cloud that was flying by with unimaginable speed. Joelle loosened her grip a little as to slow down for Shay and Sebastian to keep up. She didn't feel like losing them any time soon.
Shay Du Rone:
"I'm not sure, but I think I am starting to think so.."
Joelle's reply sounded a little odd to Shay and it kicked her inquisitive mind into gear. It seemed that the girl was implying that this was not how Sebastian usually acted and Shay indulged the thought for a moment or two before pushing it away. Maybe Sebastian was acting a little strangely today...so what? It probably wouldn't change the fact that the boy was a complete buffoon. "I see.." Shay said a little dismissively before going to mount Sebastian's Pegasus. She kept on petting it's neck, brushing her fingers gently through it's mane. It wasn't really all that surprising that the only one Shay wanted to make friends with was the horse.
“Eggs? Her Highness is too kind. I was under the impression you’d rather throw stones instead."
And there he went again, disturbing her peace and quiet. Gritting her teeth, Shay turned and looked over her shoulder at him. Sebastian had presented her with his back by this time but it didn't make any difference, she still glared at him as if she was trying to burn twin holes in the back of his head. "At the rate you're going you'll graduate to stones soon enough." She said loftily, sticking her nose in the air. "You're just the type of person to develop back wards." Shay turned away again and flexed her shoulders in an attempt to relax. Her riding instructor had told her once that it wasn't wise to be tense while riding a horse, the animal would sense it and try to bully you. She took a deep breath, rolling up her sheet music around her flute. Looking at it, Shay let a sad expression pass across her face. She would much rather be off finishing this piece instead of hunting for thieves, but Shay knew that there was no backing out of this.
She stiffened up, her back going ram rod straight, when she felt Sebastian get on behind her. Their legs brushed and Shay made a small frustrated sound in the back of her throat at the unwelcome contact. "Do you mind?!" She snapped and even though he moved back, she scooted forward a little bit to put more of a distance between them. It still wasn't as much distance as Shay would have liked, but is she scooted forward any more she'd be sitting on the Pegasus's neck and she doubted that it would like that very much. She was securing her music sheets to her flute when she felt Sebastian take the reins. Oh no...this was not going to happen. If anybody was going to take the reins, it was going to be her. She was about to tell him so when the crazy Pegasus broke out into a gallop and suddenly all Shay could do was to choke down the surprised yelped threatening to escape her lips.
The abrupt take off was just the start of it though. She ended up pressing her lips together to keep from screaming as the Pegasus flew crazily through the air. What in the Hades had come over this animal?! Shay clutched her flute to her chest knowing that she'd kill somebody if this wild ride made her drop it. She hadn't even gotten a chance tie her hair back and the wind blew it into her face, obscuring her vision and only making the ride scarier. Just when Shay thought that she couldn't stand it anymore, everything came to an abrupt stop. She found herself leaning against something warm and solid and when she shoved her hair our of her face, she discovered that it was Sebastian. Worse, the hand that was not clutching her flute was was clutching one of his. Her fingers were curled around his like she was trying to hold his hand or something. Quickly Shay bolted upright and snatched her hand away. She took a deep breath and...
"What in the Hades do you think you're doing?!" Shay hardly yelled but she was yelling now to cover up the fact that she had gotten so scared. She wished she could turn around and smack him, but couldn't risk that because she didn't want to go tumbling off. Instead she pulled at the reins, trying to make him let go. "How in the world did they let an idiot like you take one of the Pegasus out of the stables!" Shay wanted to be on the ground, after a ride like that she wanted both her feet to be touching solid earth. It was a good thing that Joelle called out to them and said that her hellhound had picked up on the trail of the thief.
"We'll be right behind you!" Shay called to distract herself from the pounding of her heart and from the fear that still clutched at it. She continued to tug the reins away from Sebastian's hands, fully blaming him for the Pegasus's behavior and not trusting him with the reins anymore.
Sebastian Aiden:
When Shay clutched his hand, he felt the warmth of hers seeped through his skin, and he could swear it left a lingering burn in its place even after she had quickly let go of him. It was ironic, he thought, how someone so cold could feel so…warm. He knew it was silly, but he couldn’t stop the rapidly growing blush on his cheeks or the heightening of his senses of everything about her. For a second there, he felt lightheaded. Sebastian tried to remember when was the first time a girl had ever held his hand, and realized that he couldn’t, because this was the first time it ever happened. He gulped slowly. Sebastian didn’t know what to do next. If his siblings were here, they would have been more than glad to teach him a thing or two. Especially Keller, he thought. Keller, who finds it amusing to give him pointers on girls and stuff every night as they lie in their respective bunks. It was his brother’s idea of a bedtime story. Definitely annoying it was to listen in the dark to Keller’s smug narrations, particularly when Sebastian’s dead tired and wants nothing more than his blessed sleep. Sometimes, he even wondered if what everything Keller told him was the truth.
"What in the Hades do you think you're doing?! How in the world did they let an idiot like you take one of the Pegasus out of the stables!"
Sebastian felt yanked back to earth when he heard Shay’s contemptuous tone. She was yelling, her voice undeniably rising in volume. He felt her pull at the reins as if she wanted to be the one handling it, and he frowned in irritation, slowly becoming angry. This was his horse. His Pegasus. Loopy might be a little insane, a little unpredictable, but that doesn’t mean Sebastian can’t handle him! He had been riding this Pegasus for the past five years. There isn’t any other camper who knows better than Sebastian to control Loopy. He took it a huge insult on his part when she implied that he wasn’t fit to handle any Pegasus. Sebastian had been living like a hermit in a forest for a good three years of his life with nothing but horses and pegasi as his everyday companions. He prided himself an excellent charioteer and a master horseback rider. He wasn't a greenhorn!
But Shay doesn’t really know that, and her insult was a massive hit to his ego.
Sebastian didn’t let go of the reins, if anything, he tightened his hold of it. Slowly, he exhaled, trying to curb his rising temper. Shay was really something else. She had been the only person to make him feel all kinds of emotions in less than half an hour. And their first meeting at that!
"Yup! The trail is hot and the hound is on it. Follow me, Won't be long now!"
"We'll be right behind you!"
She was tugging harder at the reins now, and it suddenly dawned on Sebastian that she was scared. She had almost panicky way of pulling. Smirking, he thought he may just have found the perfect way to get back at her for her comment of him. Sebastian understood it would be pushing his luck, but he considered it might even be fun. He had seen Joelle’s Autumn run towards camp, as if it had picked up a scent, and Blue was already gliding down. Perfect. Turning to Shay, he said,
“Hold on, Princess. This ride is just about to get a little more exciting.”
With that, he gave a hard kick on Loopy’s side, sending it zooming up into a frenzied speed. Sebastian was grinning, enjoying the feel of the wind in his face. He was more than ready for the sudden rush and exhilaration, unlike earlier which almost gave him a heart attack. He was prepared, and had braced himself for the adrenaline surge. Sebastian was in his element now in the sky. They were shooting up like a rocket, and looking down, Sebastian couldn’t see the beach anymore. They were in the clouds, reaching impossible levels of altitude. And just as what happened a few minutes ago, Loopy abruptly braked. They didn’t have enough time to catch their breaths though, because the Pegasus started to go down in a very steep dive at breakneck speed. Sebastian fought the urge to whoop. They were spinning fast down and around like a bullet, increasing in momentum. The ground was fast approaching and it never looked more solid. Just as they were about to crash and fall, however, Sebastian pulled the reins up so that Loopy flipped to do a small loop before it began to whoosh straight forward, parallel to the earth, whizzing past Blue and towards Autumn. Faster!, he urged inwardly.
Out of nowhere, a wagon appeared in front of them, and Loopy immediately swerved back to the left, the sudden motion causing both his riders to fly off his back and into the air. Arms flailing wildly, and finally crashing on the garden in the center of the surrounding residences, Sebastian saw his life flashed before him. The landing was rough, but the flowers broke their fall. Am I dead? was his first thought when he opened his eyes and saw the pale blue sky. Groaning, Sebastian groggily stood up, petals and leaves on his hair. He checked if there were any body parts missing, and he breathed out a sigh of relief when he found himself still in one piece. He had a nasty bruise on his right shoulder where he hit the ground, but that was just about it. His body was covered in dirt, both from sand and soil. He was about to turn and search for Shay when he realized a crowd was gathering, forming a circle around the area, eyes glued on him. He froze. Sebastian was still in his boxers.
“Oh Dear God.”
Joelle Morte:
Joelle was flying peacefully as she felt the wind in her hair, Blue flying close behind Autumn. She looked ahead of where autumn was running and could see the shape of someone, holding clothes in one hand and frantically running from Autumn. A large evil smirk spread across her face... They finally found him. But of course she was thinking too soon, because out of no where- Sebastian and Shay shot straight out of the clouds. Zooming passed her with enough speed to probably kill them.
The first thing that popped into her mind was laughter, she started laughing so hard at the sight of Shay's surprising fear and of Sebastian's determined yet excited expressions that she almost fell off of Blue! She noticed that Sebastian was still in his boxers, and by now they were flopping in the wind as if he were on a motorcycle. Boy, was this starting to be the highlight of Joe's day! She watched as they dodged a cart that was pulling out, and saw them both fly off far enough and tumble straight into the flowerbed.
Uh oh... she thought, her laughter stopping immediately. She quickly put a sharp heel kick into Blue's side that sent them bolting in the direction of Sebastian and Shay. The sight was defiantly not going to be good, hopefully everyone was alright and there were no broken bones. Well lets hope for Sebastian's sake he does have something broken because if not.. Shay might brake something.. she thought, starting to think of all the bad things that Sebastian seemed to be causing to her today. She wondered how long the list would be if she made a time line from when he first yelled to her.
Even though Joelle was thinking of all these different things, it only took her and Blue to arrive above the scene in less then 3 seconds. She noticed the large crowd starting to form around them and quickly thought of the best way to brake it up. "COME ON PEOPLE! BREAK IT UP! BREAK IT UP! LADY WITH A PEGASUS HERE!" She started yelling, as Blue quickling did a circle in the air then a trot in landing. He flapped his black wings widely as they lifted above them in an arch over her head and he lifted on his back hooves, then forced his from hooves and wings to slam against the earth. This made a large amount of dust fly straight into the directions of the circling children and she quickly hopped off of Blue while it floated around.
"Are you both alright!?" she said unenthusiastically, she didn't want to show her frantic emotions at the moment and decided to ask more concerned questions later. Hurrying over to Shay she looked her over, she didn't look as well as Sebastian did and tried to think of something to do that would help her without making her angry. She looked around that the crowd to see if they were still staring and noticed that they had started to fled, the dust and dirt was slowly fading and she sighed with relief. "Shay, I'm really sorry.. are you going to be okay or do we need to like.. step on your foot and all your pain will just transfer to your foot.." she said, smiling at the small joke that her mother used to say to her when she was little. It usually helped ease the frustration, but seeing as Shay was a daughter of Athena- it might not work. She put her hand out for Shay to grab so she could be helped up, sighing as soon as Sebastian and Shay were standing.
This entire thing had gone too far, from extreme anger, to extreme sourness, to extreme pain. Joelle was going to stop this right here and right now, she turned to both of them and looked at them back n' forth. "Ok, this has gone far enough. This has all happened because of a SMALL itsey bitsey accident," she said, saying the last word with enough emphasis that they should understand, she looked at Shay pointedly before continuing, "We should be handling this entire situation like Adults, NOT children, we don't go running around, threatening eachother, and doing extreme things that could possibly kill someone just because of an accident. Both of your parents would be ashamed!" she said, expressing her words with her hands as well as her mouth. She turned to Shay, "Shay, Sebastian never ment to disrupt your focused stature when we were on the Beach, he just thought that he could ask someone where his clothes were. I am sure that what you were doing was so extremely important that you had the right to yell at him," she said, looking at Sebastian for a second, "BUT that doesn't mean you have to go on a RAMPAGE to pretty much destroy him because of it!" She said, her voice rising a bit before she turned back to Sebastian without even a sidewords glance to Shay's response. "and YOU MR! What on EARTH were you thinking! You both could have Died! You better then Anyone should know better then to fly that fast that close to the ground!" she said, her eyes wide with shock, "You haven't been helping our dilemma at ALL, i know shes a very beautiful, smart girl, but you need to get your head in the game! This entire time, you haven't apologized once! Not even ONCE." She said, retracting herself with a closed eyes, deep breath.
She looked at them both with a calmer expression the the one of before, "Look, like i said this has got out of hand, both of you need to turn and apologize to EACHOTHER, even if you think you didn't do anything wrong. Do it, and do it now, because if i have to tell ya again,I will smack the demigod and demigoddess right out of you.." she said, her face not changing at all as she spoke.
Shay Du Rone:
Gods he's a stubborn one! Shay thought as she continued to tug on the Pegasus's reins. The harder she pulled the stronger Sebastian's grip seemed to get and Shay was this close to smacking...no clawing at his hands to get him to give her what she wanted. Shay could be a spoiled brat but at that moment it was fear motivating all of her actions. This Pegasus was clearly insane and unpredictable. Who knew what else it would do if given the chance? The wisest thing to do would be to get it back on the ground, and of course she wouldn't be Shay if pride wasn't thrown into the mix as well. She obviously thought that she could handle the creature better then Sebastian could.
"Oh Hades! Would you just let go!" It was also obvious how hard Shay was trying to cling to her icy exterior and that pride of hers. But the longer they stayed up in the air, more and more cracks started to form in her facade. Her motions became more frantic as she tried to get the reins away from him and Shay was even considering elbowing him in the gut if he refused to let go right at this instant!
“Hold on, Princess. This ride is just about to get a little more exciting.”
His words had Shay almost turning around in her seat. Since that was virtually impossible, she could only look over her shoulder at him and one look into Shay's eyes and anyone would be able to see that she was loosing her cool. Those famed grey eyes were glazed over, opaque as sea mist and her lips were half parted as if she were about to say, 'No...Don't..please.' The fear made her look more human but this vulnerability didn't last very long. Shay seemed to rally and come to her senses. She was never the type to beg and she would never do so with the likes of someone like Sebastian. Her expression hardened as she thought about him, and she looked once more like a haughty girl that had been carved out of stone. Unfortunately she couldn't do or say anything before Sebastian kicked their crazy mouth into motion once again.
He's doing this on purpose! Shay's outraged thought along with that impossible pride of hers made her clamp her lips together when all she wanted to do was scream. She would not, would not give the jerk the satisfaction of hearing her scream. Instead she tried to regulate her breathing but that seemed impossible since they were climbing to altitudes that swept her breathe away. She knew what was going to happen next. As the old saying went, 'What goes up...must come down' but the knowledge of that didn't make their descent any better. It was some kind of morbid coincidence that Shay found herself wishing for the exact opposite of what she had been wishing before now. For one thing she had wanted to be on the ground but as their spiraled toward it, she found that she wanted to be as far away from it as possible. She could not even close her eyes and the fact that the wind blew her hair back giving her clear view of what was rushing up to meet her only made it worse.
Shay was jerked backward and into Sebastian again as he pulled the Pegasus out of it's suicide dive. As they zipped along close to the ground she was just too shocked to pull away from him and sit upright again. She did realize though that her hand had latched onto his once again and she snatched it back just as the Pegasus swerved to avoid an on coming wagon. What she should have grabbed onto were the reins that she had so wanted just moments earlier. Shay was catapulted through the air and she had just time to thank her father for sending her to all those gymnastic classes before the ground raced up to meet her.
Tuck and roll. She did just that but the impact was still jarring and she rolled right into a rose bush. When it was all said and done, Shay found herself lying face down in the dirt. Her whole body hurt...that was the first thing Shay noticed. It also told her that she wasn't dead. She turned over with some difficultly only to spit dirt out of her mouth. Ewww...gross. She was wiping at her lips when Joelle rushed up and Shay looked at the other girl in a blurry way when Joelle said something about stepping on her foot to get rid of the pain or something like that.
"Shay, I'm really sorry.. are you going to be OK or do we need to like.. step on your foot and all your pain will just transfer to your foot.."
"Anatomy doesn't work that way..." Shay replied, a little too shell shocked to feel anything but for the moment. "The distribution of pain..." She trailed off when she realized that the other girl was smiling. Oh..it was a joke. That put a halt to the lecture on the human body that Shay had been preparing to belt out. Slowly she got to her feet to inspect the damage. It wasn't too bad...her knees were skinned and she was suffering from minor cuts on her arms that were probably the work of the rose bush. Her hair was a rat's nest and there was a throbbing in her right temple that said that a bruise was forming there. And she might have jabbed herself in the ribs with her own flute...
Making a list of all her injuries kept her anger at bay but when that was done it was as if a dam had broke. She set her sights on Sebastian, would have marched over to him and stab his eyes or something like that but once more Joelle saved his skin.
We should be handling this entire situation like Adults, NOT children, we don't go running around, threatening eachother, and doing extreme things that could possibly kill someone just because of an accident. Both of your parents would be ashamed!"
"Not his..." Shay muttered, thinking about how Apollo was the patron of boys and probably to an extent childishness as well. "His is probably applauding the way he's been acting..." But it looked as if Joelle was on a roll and the sight of a child of Hades giving them a lecture on proper behavior had Shay struck speechless. The girl made sense, and you couldn't really argue with wise council. You could however, still be stubborn in the face of it. And so Shay set her jaw and crossed her arms over her chest. She looked downright silly standing there in the middle of the courtyard in just her bikini and a men's white shirt (now torn and stained). That didn't stop her from tilting her chin up and an imperious angle and staring at Sebastian.
"Alright. Let's hear it." Yes, she wanted him to apologize first. This was all his fault after all.
Sebastian Aiden:
Sebastian saw the looks the other campers were giving him, and he stared back at them defiantly, even as the blush stained his cheeks red, making him look like a ripe tomato and giving away the embarrassment he was much feeling at that moment. The girls pointed and giggled at him, while some few guys who fancied themselves as smart-asses threw in some low whistles. Sebastian resisted the urge to flee as fast as he could from this scene and hide away for a year or so until everyone forgets this little incident. It was a good thing he was wearing one of his dark colored boxers, not one of those yellow Spongebob printed ones that one of his siblings gave him for his birthday. At least, it made him look manly even though his tousled hair was full of clinging petals and leaves. He wanted to shake both fists towards the heavens and cry out, “WHY GOD? WHY!?,” but he doubt it would help much his present predicament. On the contrary, he had a feeling it would make it much worse. Suck it up, Aiden, he told himself.
He was, therefore, glad when Joelle came and broke up the gathering crowd. He was starting to feel very exposed under the scrutiny of everybody’s eyes. Sebastian watched as Blue made a mini-dust storm and scattered the small mass of people. He could have hugged Joelle for her great timing. It had started out as a very normal day which went out to become a crazy one, and Sebastian was just much thankful that she was there to save his ass twice already. Memo to self: Give Joelle those chocolate chip cookies that Keller sent over yesterday. He knew she liked them much. Probably not as much as he was about Blueberry Cheesecakes, but fond of it, nonetheless. It was his own small way of thanking her later.
Sebastian watched as she quickly got off her mount and ran towards Shay, who was some few yards away from him. Shay was looking a bit unsteady, and her eyes were a bit unfocused, probably dazed from the fall and impact. Her hair was a mess, her shirt had gotten dirty and torn, her top two buttons were missing… and she was still holding that darn flute! Sebastian didn’t know whether to laugh at this or be relieved that she was okay. For a minute there, he had gotten very worried. It was, after all, his fault that she was thrown away from the Pegasus, which by the way, was floating above them some 10 meters above the ground, staring lazily as if it had nothing to do with the accident. Sebastian growled at Loopy, inwardly wondering what was the best way to cook a horse. But the Pegasus just seemed to be amused at his murderous glare, whinnying cheekily instead. Roasted, probably.
He jogged over to Joelle and Shay and arrived just in time to hear Shay reasoned something out about pain and anatomy. Sebastian saw her wobble a bit as she stood up to her feet, and instinctively offered out a hand before realizing that she’ll probably not take it. He dropped his hand, and continued staring at her, itching to tuck that strand of hair that had gotten in her face. She was examining herself for injuries, and was too busy to notice him looking at her intently.
When she did became aware of him, though, it was not surprising that the glares she gave him were deadly. If looks could kill, he would have fallen lifeless at her feet already. But he couldn’t really blame her. He understood what she was feeling at that moment. Put it this way, if the guy who, minutes ago, almost cost you your life, stands there close next to you, wouldn’t you want to inflict pain on that person yourself? Sebastian knew he would have done more than that if he was Shay.
Her look didn’t last long, however. Joelle started reprimanding them for their actions, and he watched in amazement at how the usually-reserved, usually-silent Hades girl speak so many words all at once. She was even scarier than Charybdis this way, and Sebastian immediately stood up straighter, posture at attention, as if the person before him was a drill sergeant. He had to stop himself at the last second to salute her and give her a reply of, “Sir, Yes Sir!” The image she was giving him was uncanny. Sebastian was even kind of expecting Joelle to say something like, “Drop and give me a hundred!”
"You haven't been helping our dilemma at ALL, i know shes a very beautiful, smart girl, but you need to get your head in the game! This entire time, you haven't apologized once! Not even ONCE."
At this, Sebastian opened his mouth to disagree. He had apologized! Just right before that stupid horse choked him with flying sand. He wanted to say that out loud, but thought better of it. It was definitely his fault, after all. He got them into this mess, got her almost killed. Sebastian knew he had no right to not take the blame. Sighing in resignation, he turned to Shay. He may not be one of those reserved, polished rich boys, but his late mother taught him well with good manners. Said she wanted him to grow up a gentleman. Too bad she never lived long enough to witness it, though,he thought with a pang of hurt.
Rubbing the back of his neck and eyes downcast, he started his apology, “Look…”
And then something red on the ground caught his eye. It looked to be a piece of clothing of some sort. He narrowed his eyes in concentration, trying to figure out what exactly was it. When realization finally dawned on him, Sebastian’s eyes widened and bulged in astonishment. Immediately, almost instinctively, his gaze traveled to her chest, and got his suspicion confirmed. It’s her bikini top! he thought in shock. It must have gotten unfastened when she tumbled forward. Shay was clearly not aware of this yet, as she was just standing there as haughty as ever. The thin material of her white shirt showed more than what was necessary, and when she crossed her arms, it only made her breasts all the more distinct to his view, pushing her shirt closer to her body so that it stuck like second skin. Sebastian thought his eyes would pop at the sight. It was not an everyday occurrence that a girl has her… uh… mammaries exposed in front of him. He was struck speechless, his attention solely on her chest. It was definitely most hypnotizing, and he must have been ogling at her for a full five minutes or so, before he realized what he was doing. Clearing his throat and looking down again, Sebastian bent to pick up her red top. The cloth felt like fire, and he held it towards her in an arms length as soon as he got up.
“Uh… H-here. I think you may have dropped this.” He said almost in a nervous manner, eyes darted upwards, as if he was afraid to look at her. Sebastian’s cheeks were burning, and his face had turned into a bright shade of red. He was no pervert, but his teenage hormones were kicking in. Any normal 18-year old guy would have done that too, and he reasoned it was only because of that that he stared. He sincerely hoped to Zeus, she wouldn’t kill him. “And I could heal your wounds if you like,” he said, gulping, his eyes still fixed at the sky, refusing to even look at Shay. This was bad. Sebastian sensed it like a dying man sense his impending doom.
Joelle Morte:
Joelle groaned at Shay's response, hearing her speak stubbornly about Sebastian's father probably applauding him. It sure sounded about right, but at this moment it wasn't the time to be as snooty as she was being and looked over to tell her something. Being interrupted by Sebastian in the process.
She had heard Shay say something about Sebastian apologizing first, and just hoped that this was exactly what he was doing; not arguing against it. The entire time she had been drilling them, she noticed Sebastian's straight posture and the twitching in his fingers and mouth. He looked like a soldier and like she was going to tell him to drop and give her twenty. She prevented herself from smiling at this, and covered it up with a more fierce look that could probably scare small children.
She watched him utter 'Look...' then just stand there for a while, she assumed he was probably trying to think of something kind to say. But his face seemed to move in slow motion when it locked on something next to Joelle, she was too lazy to move or look, and watched as five minutes passed. Finally turning to see, she noticed Shay's top open.. revealing her.. uhm.. goods. Quickly shutting her eyes closed she started to shake her head from side to side, as if she was a little kid who wouldn't eat her vegetables.
She could feel the pain in her head starting to come back, rushing her hand to her temple as she rubbed it in a small circle. If things kept getting worse as the time passed, soon the entire Camp would probably set aflame and then everyone would be scattering around like roaches when you turn on the lights.
“Uh… H-here. I think you may have dropped this. And I could heal your wounds if you like.”
Before Joelle could move to cover up Shay, Sebastian had already lifted the small red bikini top and she suddenly had the erge to slam her head on a rock. Mummbling to herself about how ''this day isn't going to get any better is it.. ''
She whistled for Blue, he trotted over to them and covered Shay from sight, using his wings as a shade and a curtain. She looked over to Sebastian who was by now still staring at the sky and holding the top, walking over to him and snatching it from him to give to Shay.
Once Shay had her top, Joe walked over to Sebastian with a half smile, "You seemed to have gotten yourself in quite a pickle my friend.." she said, mimicing the voice of Steve Urkel from Family Matters. She tried to cheer him up a bit but she wasn't sure if it was working, "You did a grey job Sebastian, alright? atleast you didn't stare for more then five minutes.. happeneds to a lot of guys.. believe me.. i know.." she said reassuringly, her voice going into annoyance-boredum-unamused as she said the last part of it. She turned toward Blue who was still covering Shay, and hoped that she wouldn't come out screaming and yelling like a maniac.
Who knows? She might shock me.. she thought, shrugging to her thoughts and looking back to Sebastian. She knew that he had eyes for her, it was obvious, but Joelle decided not to butt in like Keller. And let it go with the flow..
Shay Du Rone:
There was a part of Shay that wanted to flop onto the ground and just lay there. The mix of anger and adrenaline was starting to give her a headache and she could already feel it developing at the base of her skull. The three of them were standing there in the courtyard in such a way that Shay was facing the Athena cabin. The sight of it made her long for some quiet and comfort. There she could get cleaned up. She could tend to her skinned knees and her various other cuts and bruises. She could run a brush through the mess that her hair had become...But as always Sebastian was in her way and Shay forced herself to stiffen up her spine and face him down. Her pride was just too huge for her to back down now. The glint in her gray eyes told anybody looking into them that she would get that apology from him even if it killed her.
And he was making good progress too when he seemed to deflate and give in to her demand for once. Shay stared at him as he opened his mouth and uttered one word before going all silent again. She waited for maybe about half a second before impatience started to bubble up inside her and rear it's ugly head. What was he waiting for? Shay could feel the corners of her lips curl into a snarl of distaste. Her first instinct was to think that he was pulling her leg again, doing something incredibly childish to make her waste her time in his company. Shay's eyes became narrow slits as Sebastian simply stared at her (she was too angry to notice that he was staring at her chest in particular) and was about to open her mouth to shout at him again when he reached over and picked up something red. Shay frowned at the piece of cloth in his hand, not really registering why it looked so familiar.
“Uh… H-here. I think you may have dropped this.”
Dropped? Staring at his outstretched hand, Shay felt as if the world had suddenly been pulled out under her feet. Of course! Of course there was a good chance that her top had managed to get undone by the fall! Shay had been too busy dealing with the pain of the impact and then her rage at Sebastian to even notice that there was a bit of an updraft up her shirt. Her arms quickly dropped to her sides and she resisted the urge to look down to actually check. In the end, Shay simply stood frozen, staring at Sebastian so upset that her gray eyes looked black.
It was a good thing that Joelle was still around. The girl whistled and Blue trotted up to her, covering her up from view. Joelle also took her top away from Sebastian, something that Shay found that she could not make herself do. "Thanks.." When she finally spoke, her voice had gone eerily quiet and all too calm. Shay reached out slowly for her top fingers clenching against the material until her knuckles turned white. Her expression was blank as she watched Joelle interact with Sebastian and it looked as if Shay was trying to weigh out how much effort it would take for her to vault over Blue, launch herself at Sebastian and kill him. He was saying something about healing her wounds, and Shay sucked in a breath before saying,
"As if I would let you lay your hands on me. I'd die if I let you touch me." Her tone was it's usual iciness, but if you really listened you could hear it crack just a little. Shay herself did and it angered her to no end. Sebastian had no business putting her through all of this. "Go find your clothes yourself." That imperious tilt of her chin was back, and she reached up to tuck a strand of stray hair behind her ears as she squared her shoulders. "We're done." This was a warning, he'd better not come close to her for the duration of the Summer or she might maim him. Stepping out from behind Blue, Shay pushed pass Sebastian as she made a beeline for the Athena residence. She resisted the urge to run to it, keeping her gait to a casual stroll. Keeping her head held high. She did not look back.
Sebastian Aiden:
Sebastian shifted in his place uncomfortably as he waited for whatever disaster was about to happen. All this anticipation was making him extremely nervous…plus, his neck was staring to hurt from looking up too much. The girls were so quiet, probably dumbfounded, he could almost hear crickets in the background. It seemed like a bad omen. Like the calm before the storm. He only wished that if Shay was indeed going to kill him, his death would be a swift and painless one. He fancied he’d already suffered enough the entire duration he was with her.
“Erm…” he started, but stopped when he heard Joelle whispered something about the day not going to get any better. He gave a small wry smile at that. Yep. As you can see I’m about to be obliterated in a few minutes, he voiced inwardly. At least, I’ll die honorably though. I mean, I did try to give her her bikini back, right? Sebastian heard a small sharp whistle followed by the trot of a horse, and ultimately felt the bikini top snatched from him. Finally looking down, he saw Blue obstructing Shay from his view and breathed a small sigh of relief. The Pegasus was not only acting as a screen for Shay from his vision, but it was also serving as a shield for him from her too, in case she suddenly attacks him or something.
"You seemed to have gotten yourself in quite a pickle my friend. You did a grey job Sebastian, alright? At least, you didn't stare for more then five minutes… Happens to a lot of guys, believe me, I know..."
Rubbing the back of his neck, he threw Joelle a grateful smile. He didn’t know how to comment on that, didn’t really know how to explain himself on staring so much at Shay’s chest, so he just kept silent. It wasn’t as if he could say anything to redeem himself, anyway. If he knew better, he’d just stutter something utterly ridiculous again and make things even more worse. He wanted to comfort her though, about him seeing her chest. He felt it was only right to put her mind at ease, and make it seem as if it was nothing at all on his part. Like it was no big deal. Sebastian felt bad about causing her much anxiety because it was he who caused the majority, if not all, of it. But he doubt saying something like, “Don’t worry too much about it, okay? You have nothing to be ashamed of. You actually have a very nice set of…”
Yeah. It was good he didn’t say anything.
"As if I would let you lay your hands on me. I'd die if I let you touch me."
Sebastian felt the venom in her voice spread through his whole body, paralyzing him. She was mad, he understood that. But he also knew Shay was probably more embarrassed than anything else. She just flashed herself in front of a guy she barely knew! She might be the coldest girl he had ever known, but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t got any pride. In fact, Sebastian had a strong suspicion it was pride that she got plenty of.
"Go find your clothes yourself. We're done."
He watched her go with what’s left of her dignity. He had to admit it. This girl’s got guts, and strangely, he admired her for it. Sebastian knew how tough it was for Shay to restrain herself from running away. To just escape. It must have been killing her to face him straight in the eyes and not falter. And to walk with her chin held up high? Yes, she was a rare one. A lesser being would have just crumpled to the ground or make a scene or just plain break down. But instead, she carried her dilemma with all the grace and courage she got, never once losing her poise. Just like an Ice Princess, he thought with a growing sense of respect. A small smile started to tug the corners of his lips, and he shook his head lightly, chuckling a bit. He still hasn’t taken his eyes off of her.
“As you wish, Your Highness.” He whispered softly to himself, ice blue eyes twinkling in amusement. He was torn between relief of being spared his life, and an increasing awe for the girl. She was definitely most interesting.
When Shay had finally gotten inside the Athena cabin, Sebastian turned to Joelle. He ran a hand through his hair, shaking some petals and leaves in the process and making them fall on his shoulders. Giving her a sheepish look, he said grinning, “Thanks, Joe. I owe you a lot.” It was stated in an embarrassed kind of way, but the sincerity there was obvious. Sebastian gave her a playful mock salute before he turned around and jogged back to his own residence.
Yep. Summer was turning out to be quite fascinating.
And to think, it was only just getting started…
((ooc note 3: And this thread is finished. Just wanted to give anyone interested in the Seb/Shay saga some background information and things. )
