More of the moon is known than the bottom of the ocean. Therefore, what Jacen was now doing had a similar magnitude to Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong's trip to the moon. Jacen swam further, focusing on that thought. He dodged a tuna lazily swimming along, and dove deeper, until all that he could see were the freaky, unreal lifeforms of the deep sea's depths. Ugh; his ears popped painfully. Normally, a human would have imploded by now. Luckily for him, he wasn't exactly human. he knew he was in Pontos' realm, that he shouldn't be here, but he was Jacen's grandfather. Jacen had, in fact, inherited his power of the sea directly; he was Pontos' biological heir, technically; one of Eurybia's children had shown a power over the sea, only war, destruction, or stars. Jacen faced north, focusing on how far away he was from the Academy; soon, he would need to be back. His mother was a minor titan, apparently (Jacen still resented the name... as if she was less important!) Eurybia had given him quite a collection of skills: breathing underwater, aquakinetic and aerokinetic gifts, the ability to communicate with the winds and stars, and water nymphs, and the minor ability to never get lost, thanks to her being a navigation deity. Quickly, he created a small whirlpool, trying as hard as he could to only use minor or foreign currents, not one that could be a favorite of Pontos or something. He passed mackerel, tiny minnows, even a small shark at one point, before he needed to go back up, finally following the ground at a gentle lope, until he reached a sand bar, a few hundred out. He could see the Academy in the early morning dawn, and waved to it, before hastily putting his hand down. He doubted going off campus without permission would be appreciated... in fact, drat! He had to go change clothes! He wasn't wet, of course, but covered in the silt that existed at the bottom of the depths; basalt was there, mostly, but occasionally, some was not strong enough to exist at those pressures, and turned to fine, sticky silt that covered him, getting into nooks and crannies he didn't know he had. It wasn't often Pontos interacted with the youngling under his care, he didn't much care for children. Especially since his own children with either surly Titans, irritable minor gods, or monsters with brain the size of a grain of sand, not that any of them ever came to visit in the first place. "Ungrateful brats," Pontos thought for the quintillionth time this year alone. He sat at his desk arbitrarily grading papers not really paying any attention to their content, when he noticed changes in his realm, just small subtle changes. "That damn Monroe kid again no doubt. He won't be so keen to defy me if I turn him in to a tortoise and strand him somewhere inland, I'll wager," he muttered as he grabbed his Oar and went searching for the culprit. As he traveled, he could feel the little disruptions, but they weren't anything significant like they usually were when Monroe or one of the Poseidon children decided to play in his waters. No, these were just small, almost insignificant differences, like someone had picked up a knick knack from the shelf, and didn't quite put it back right. But there was more to it than that, the changes, and indeed the presence had an eerily familiar feeling to it, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. Rather than rise up like a towering wave full of vengeance, he decided it would be best to aim for stealth, to conceal his presence until the very last moment. He followed the meddling child up to the surface, still not quite able to place him and unsure why he couldn't. The wind shifted wafting the boy's scent towards Pontos, which struck him completely dumbfounded. It wasn't the freshwater scent of an Oceanus child, nor the deep sea salt water scent of a Poseidon child, but a lighter salt water scent, one very similar to his own. Then it struck him Eurybia![/i] This boy was one of her children. He stood wide eyed for a moment surprised that she had any children these days, after all she was married to one of the defeated Titans, which Pontos never like anyway, the fool was no where good enough for his daughter. Maybe she finally caught onto that, and was why this little silt covered demititan was standing here before him today. "I do hope you enjoyed your swim," Pontos spoke, a tad more gruffly than he had intended, but soon recovered. "I don't believe we have been properly introduced. I am Pontos, son and sometimes consort of Gaia, Father of the Seas, and your mother Eurybia. Which, makes me your grandfather..." Pontos trailed off, a little voice in his head nagging at him not to treat this boy any different than the other students. He quickly told off that voice, reminding it that it had been several thousand years since he had had a grandchild, let alone even a visit or social call from his own children, he would treat this boy as he pleased. With a wave of his hand, Pontos removed all the silt that covered the boy's body, and used it to form two throne-like chairs at the edge of the surf. "Please, sit," Pontos motioned to the smaller of the two chairs while seating himself."It's been quite some time since I have had a visit from one of our family, oh don't worry, you won't be punished for leaving campus, you were after all coming to visit your grandfather, right?" Pontos said dismissively, leaving the boy little choice but to agree. "Capitol. Do remind me of your name, you know the memory does tend to slip a bit once you've passed your tenth millennium or so. Do, make yourself comfortable, I'm not going to eat you or anything," Word Count: 658 Muse: Came out of no where Notes: Hope you don't mind me dropping in like this, couldn't resist the temptation to jump it

Jacen blinked. Oops, he had sensed someone else there, someone else's presence, only a split second before he had spoken. Hmph; usually he had more awareness than that. Odd. Pontus was stealthy for his age... then again, he was about as old as the Earth itself or so, so.... never mind. Then, once the content of Pontos' words had registered, Jacen almost let his mouth drop open. Almost. He did have family nearby! Of course, he'd met Krios, his stepfather, but he was the exact opposite of a family member, wasn't even related to him by blood. This god, standing in front of him, was his grandpa! Of course, Jacen had known that Pontos was his grandfather, in the same way he knew that the Oceanides were his cousins, or the sky his uncle. He'd never actually seen them, though, or talked to them, had a conversation with them. And Pontos... he was the headmaster of the Academy, wasn't he? Wow. The Fates had been playing the harp on his strand, that was for sure. He realized that Pontos was still sitting there, and Jacen sat down awkwardly, hitting the chair too hard.. and not hurting himself, of course, because it was made of hardened water. Ingenious, that was. He should be talking, answering questions, asking some of his own. Jacen was aware of that, of course, but he preferred to simply sink in the moment, and enjoy it. His first meeting with a family member that didn't want to kill him since birth, pretty much. It was, despite their surroundings, a momentous occasion. "I- I'm Jacen," he said, stammering a bit. Weird; usually, he was fine embarrassing himself in front of people... ""And, yes, I'm Eurybia's son. How didja know?" Words: 305 Muse: Inspiration, I s'pose Notes: I kind of hoped you would, actually. Thanks!

Was that awe he actually saw in the young demititan's eyes? That was something he hadn't seen in quite some time. On top of that was a genuine sense of pleasure, perhaps not so much pleasure exactly, but a small feeling of happiness from this rare contact with his grandfather. Now, that was something Pontos had never really seen. It was rare that his own children acknowledged him, let alone his grandchildren.
""I- I'm Jacen, And, yes, I'm Eurybia's son. How didja know?"[/b]the boy stammered flushing deeply.
"All gods know their own, comes with the territory of being an all powerful being." Pontos smiled fondly studying Jacen carefully. He could see her, Eurybia, his own daughter, superimposed over the boy like some ghostly apparition. But it wasn't just Jacen's natural gifts that showed through, there was something else, something different than any of his other students, the aura around him was much brighter, stronger, almost as though he had lived among gods...
"Tell me, my boy, when did you last see your mother? It's been oh let me see...3, not 4,000 years since I saw her last. Very rebellious that one. Wouldn't listen to me when I warned her about the Titans, told her that, now what was his name...Krion...Kelos...whatever it was, I told her that he was no good, did she listen? Of course not. She was a goddess of awesome power and what-not, why would she listen to her father. Still she listened better than her brothers. Thaumas was the worst, always surly and defiante. Never happy unless there was a hurricane brewing above his head. And Nereus, that little upstart. Setting himself up as the "Old Man of the Sea", bah, I am the Sea," Pontos rambled, much as he had man a time to the creatures of his realm over the ages, before remembering Jacen was still there listening nervously.
"Oh my dear boy, I'm sorry. I'm certain you don't want to sit and listen to me jabber on about ungrateful relations." he thought for a moment then with a kind hearted smile offered, "Why don't you join me for something to eat and drink at my home? Mind you it is a far cry from the splendor of my old Palace, back before even the Titans came to power, but it is comfortable, with plenty of food and drink," He stood, pausing for a moment, unsure whether to offer the boy his hand or not. Pontos held out his hand to the boy, knowing Zeus would have something to say about "interfering" or some such none sense. "Zeus be stuffed," he thought as the descended to the gates of his underwater home.
"Do make yourself comfortable my boy," Pontos sat in his favorite chair, and a small coffee table laden with food and drink rose from the sea bed, taking only a few morsels of ambrosia and a tall mug of nectar for himself.
"Now, you say you were kidnapped by the Titans. Hmm, that is very disturbing. Certainly they aren't foolish enough to start yet another war, and this time without, Kronos or Atlas, or Iapetos. Oh did you know Iapetos works for us here at the Academy? Apparently he had a little mishap in the River Lethe during the last war. Completely wiped his memory, some cheeky demigod told him his name was Bob. How ridiculous is that? A Titan named Bob. Anyway, Bob works here as chief of security, which is rather handy." Pontos stopped, apparently having lost hist train of thought, after all it had been a very long time since he had anything resembling a civilized conversation.
"I do seem to be going on. No doubt, you are just bursting at the seams with questions and such. I suppose now is as good a time to ask as any, so fire away my boy,"

Jacen nearly started; so many questions! He started chronologically, answering the first that had been asked. That, to him, made the most sense, after all.
Midway through thinking this, a small table with nectar and ambrosia jumped out of the ocean itself. Hmm... he shouldn't take too much, he thought. Did it affect him, a demititan, the same way it affected other demigods? He didn't think so... but still, just to make sure... he took a glass, emptied it, and filled it with purified water.
"Well.... my mom and stepdad, I guess he is... Krios... they don't get along well. At least, that's what I think. I never saw her, and I was living with him for years, so I guess he never saw her in that time. I don't think they're still together, actually. The whole business with my dad was just to spite him, I s'pose."
"And no, I didn't say I got kidnapped by Titans. I didn't say anything at all. You see, I went willingly enough. They kidnapped my da, but you gods... well, other gods, at least... they didn't seem to care. I don't think they care much about us mortals."
Thunder rumbled in the distance, and the ocean waves seemed to get a little choppier. Perhaps I shouldn't have said that? Whoops. In my nervousness, I found that I was switching some words into Greek. Oh well, he'd speak it better than me, anyway.
"And, grandfather? Wasn't Hyperion also destroyed in the War? Still, though, there are Koios, Krios, and a lot more. I don't think they're going to war, though. They didn't seem to be having much luck getting Demititans to join their side, by the look of things. They've almost given up with demigods. Somehow, though, they have it set up so most monsters are reincarnated on Mt. Tam. Weird, huh?"
Oddly enough, i found that I actually.... didn't have many questions. Oh, wait. There was one.
"Sir, do you know where my dad is?"
"They taught me how to use my powers to fight... I'm pretty good.

"Ah, yes, I should have guessed you would ask that," Pontos shifted uncomfortably in his chair. "I wish I could be of help there, I really do, but Lord Zeus has strictly forbidden from offering open assistance...sitting here having a quiet chat is one thing...I am sorry my boy I cannot tell you, even if I knew. I can, however, offer this bit of advice. Speak to the Oracle, she will give you a prophesy, one which will guide you on your quest to save you father. You will need two friends to go with you, to support you, to be strong where you are weak, to think in ways that wouldn't normally occur to you. Only then will you even have a chance at saving your father." Pontos paused watching Jacen with sad eyes studying him carefully, knowing how disappointing it must be fore him not to have the answers readily available to him.
"As to your first question, divinities such as gods, titans, monsters and the like, can't be killed the same way mortals can. We are immortal. Which means exactly that, we cannot die, even if our being is cut to pieces, as Kronos' was. We only die when there is no one left to remember or believe in us, or if we stop believing in ourselves and just...fade away. i came close to death about a thousand years ago. No one remembered old Pontos as anything more than the father of Nereus. My death would have been different, I wouldn't have faded away, I would have become the Sea, forever sleeping, just as our mother Gaia does even now." Pontos grew quiet for a moment.
"But enough of this heady talk, there will be time enough for that in the days to come. Why don't you tell me about you? I have many children and grandchildren, but as I said none visit or pay much mind...tell me of yourself my boy,"
