Hurdles?
Check.
Poisonous Scorpion ambush?
Check.
Pegasi Racing?
Check.
Flaming snake demon? Pegasi Diving? And Sword Fighting?
Check, check, and check.
September bent down, and stretched her legs. She didn't want to, but she had to. Had to do what? She had to do the obstacle course, which consisted of several death traps in which you had to get out of. I know, impossible right? Well, this is Half-Blood Academy. Deal with it. Seppie sighed. She hadn't even started the race yet, and she was already sweating through her clothes. The brand new cami her mom got her, in the shade of a pretty oceanic blue turned into a dingy dark navy-black blue. And her jeans. Man, Seppie wished she had worn shorts today. They were so tight, that it was hard to even walk in these things, let alone run. But those were the only GOOD looking pairs she had, since the other ones were a bit too floral for her liking. Well, her mom WAS the goddess of harvest and all things floral, so go figure.
The sun was beating down on her face, with hard rays of blinding light. "By the gods! Apollo, will you shut your lights up?" Seppie muttered under her breath. In turn, as if he had heard her, the sun shined even brighter. Shaking her head, Seppie sighed. Thanks a lot, she thought. Jogging in place, slowly to get her adrenaline up, she doused herself with a water bottle. A sword was strapped to her waist, as it jangled up and down in an annoying clatter of clangs. A satyr was at her side, giving her a small pep talk, though she wasn't listening at all. Just listen to your won guts, and you'll be fine, she thought. September groaned inwardly yet again. Why couldn't they had let her just fight against somebody, or send her on a quest instead of making her walk to her own death?
September look around her. She was the only one here so far, though in a distance she could see another camper coming up. Squinting her eyes, Seppie could make out just the general outline of the camper's face, though she was sure the camper was a guy. Well, at least there is SOME competition, she thought to herself.

Actually, it wasn't really competition coming up to the Obstacle Course. You might as well considered him roadkill for all he brought to the table--which was nothing. He looked confused, as if he wasn't sure what was going on. But this was the norm now. He never had any idea what was going on here. People handed him swords and armor and demanded he go try to chop the head off of a fellow student. They asked for him to try out a Chariot. They expected him to be able to fight monsters. All within the first week.
You know, at his other schools they usually started off with a nice tour. Maybe a lecture here and there.
They never asked him to try out the Obstacle Course, infamous for long painful deaths and a difficulty level of 9,999.
His only comfort was that he wasn't glowing. He had no halo around himself (he checked just a few minutes before, praying the Obstacle Course wouldn't be his end), so that meant he wasn't going to die. It didn't guarantee that he wouldn't lose a few limbs or go deaf or anything, but at least he would live to see tomorrow.
When Aden imagined an Obstacle Course it was something like this: plain wooden wall to climb, maybe some logs to jump on and get across, monkey bars, tires to hop through. Something like that.
Of course, at Half-Blood Academy they had a considerably different take on things.
Aden was dressed as usual: old faded t-shirt with Pikachu on it, khaki shorts his dad had given him for his fourteenth birthday (they were just a teensy bit too small) and old sneakers with his white socks pulled up. He looked like the dork he was. Though Aden wasn't concerned so much with his appearance these days. He was focused on getting out of this Academy alive. The teachers were making it extremely difficult.
He was dragging along with him a bronze sword. They had given him a scabbard to carry it in, but Aden could never put it on right and his leg was bruising from where the sword would bump on it as he walked. So, he opted to carrying it around. The only problem? He could hardly lift the thing. The heaviest object he'd ever had to deal with was his X-Box controller and that didn't ask for much strength. Thus the sword was dragged along the ground as he held the hilt with both hands.
Aden finally came upon the Obstacle Course and nearly fainted too. He had to lean on his sword for support. He looked horrified, his blue eyes rolling around in his head. Did they want to kill their students? What about No Child Left Behind? They were losing valuable government funding with this thing here! Who knew how many poor kids lost their lives because of this monster?
The blonde looked around and saw only one other person here: a pretty girl getting ready for the Course. She looked determined. Maybe this sort of thing was right up her ally: maybe she was a kid from Ares. She wasn't glowing so she would survive it. But what about Aden? He didn't care if he didn't have a halo. He was going to die.
"Uh, um, i-i-is this re-really the uh Obstacle Course?" He gasped, his knees shaking so hard they were knocking together. words: 606 muse: going strong~ comments: yay. XD

"Uh, um, i-i-is this re-really the uh Obstacle Course?" Seppie turned to look behind her and saw a boy. He was about her age, if not older. Maybe that was the little happy camper she saw before. He looked worried, with a Pikachu T-shirt and khaki shorts, that were a bit too small for him and strained against his..um... pelvis. Seppie blinked for a bit, before replying, "Yes, yes it is. Disturbing, right?"Seppie smiled, bashfully. He seemed nice enough, and not to mention kinda cute with that stutter. She walked over to him, and patted on his back gently. "Hey, what's your name? I'm September, but call me Seppie," she said with a wink.
"I'm not into this course too, but how about I help you out? I mean it's only fair, with those things out there, we can both help each other. How about that? Or we can ditch this whole thing, and go somewhere else," Seppie added. Walking over to a satyr, she whispered something in his ear. After a moment, his face brightened up, and trotted off, kicking his hooves together in happiness. He whooped, then disappeared. Snickering to herself, Seppie sat down on the grass, proud of her little prank. Just wait until that satyr finds out that no dyad awaited him at the ledge. Laughing under her breath, Seppie remember that poor little boy that stood nearby, completely aghast at course.
Then there was a whistle. "Ok. PEOPLE! THE RACE STARTS IN 1 MINUTE!! GET YOUR SELF READY!" Seppie, again started to jog in place, keeping her adrenaline up. Mom, please, don't let me DIE! she prayed in her mind. It's OK, just breathe. Everything will be fine, Seppie reassured herself.
"Dude, this is our last chance to bail this course. Are you in or not?" she whispered, softly, kaing sure that no one else could hear them.

He saw her looking up and down, appraising him. She probably saw what every girl saw: a dork. A dork with no life, even though he was here at the Academy. He couldn't remember the last time a girl had ever paid him any attention at all. And now this one was talking to him as though he was just like anyone else. It was making him even more flustered by the second.
Then she walked over and patted him on his back. And winked at him. He blinked hard, looking around to see if anyone else had seen this miracle. The way she just closed one of her eyes and smiled, lighting the whole Obstacle up. He must be seeing things other than shiny halos around soon-to-be dead people. Now he was seeing cute girls wink at him. That was just impossible.
She said her name was September. Like the month. He didn't know any special events in September, except maybe Patriot's Day which was for 9/11. That didn't seem like something to point out though. But he liked her name--he thought of leaves changing colors and his dad's favorite sweater, the tan one he only wore when it got cold.
"Hi Sepp... Seppie," he sputtered. He tried to smile, but it came out to be somewhere between a grimace and frown. He was too scared for anything else. "I'm..."
Suddenly he forgot his name. What was his name again? He stared at her in horror, as if she made him forget. Which was probably true with the way she smiled at him and winked and everything else. It didn't help that she was pretty in the sensible way. Not like the Aphrodite girls that caked on so much make-up he didn't know how any of them really looked. His throat swelled up.
Then he remembered his dad's cheery face with the wrinkles around his eyes. He always called him Aden. My name is Aden and I really like Darth Vadar. No girl could make him forget that. "ADEN. My name--my name is Aden," he just about near shouted at September. And then pretty September was giving him choices. Either they could ditch or go through with the course. Aden looked at the course with its death traps and pointy weapons of doom. Neither of them would die if they went through with it, as only he knew, but what if he lost a pinky finger? He looked down at the slim white finger. He liked his pinky finger. By the time she made the Satyr run off to find his nymph and the whistle blew (of course he shot up in the air at that, shaking even harder) he had to make a choice: run away to safety or do the evil "Obstacle" Course? He paled, he didn't know what to do! Why did she have to ask the most indecisive person in all of Half-Blood Academy? He stood there staring at her. Pleading she make the choice. And then... "GET READY, GET SET, GO!!!"Aden moaned and dropped his sword, "N-No I want to go somewhere else!!!"[/blockquote] words: 573 muse: alright. comments: *phoenix downs Ace's muse* lol FF reference.

"Hi Sepp... Seppie," Seppie had to smile. I mean, who couldn't when they are with this kid? He acts like a little toddler, only with cute boyish charm. Letting out a small giggle, she looked at him again. He was in the middle of saying what his name was, but stopped short. He stuttered for a bit, and Seppie chuckled again. She felt all bubbly inside, like a love-struck pony, kinda, but more of a human teenager way. She was thinking about what she was going to do, again to trick satyrs all around camp, when a loud voice entered her mind.
"ADEN. My name--my name is Aden," Jumping up, Seppie stood there stunned. In her mind, she was squealing with "AWWWWWWWWW!!!!!", but what came out was: "Aden? I like that name." She dragged him over to where she was standing gently, so she could speak to him better. He tried to smile but the effort seemed too much, and ended with a grimace. Well, he'll cheer up, and become more independent, she thought. Right now, he was like a little brother buddy. I know, cute, right?
September waited for Aden to make the choice. Ditch the course, take it down, or help each other. Which one will he choose? She continued to wait, until he turned and had a somewhat pleading look. He just stood there, doing nothing. Before Seppie could say her choice, the rather flabby satyr who was to oversee the competition, bleated, "GET READY, GET SET, GO!!!" It was at that moment, poor Aden just dropped his sword and wailed, "N-No I want to go somewhere else!!!" Seppie, also wanted to go somewhere else, though with the satyr keeping a hawk eye on them, she didn't know what to do. Instead, of a rational plan, she just grabbed Aden's hand and dragged him away, with her, running off the course as fast as possible. "Come on! We gotta go fast!" she said, still keeping a closed hand on Aden.

"You do...?" He asked with wonder, his stormy gray eyes wide.
Most people didn't care to learn his name. Most people... well, they never approached him. There was something strange and surreal about his presence, so much so that strangers would frown at him and look the other way. As if his seeing their death was something he can control. And here was this perfectly nice girl, smiling and talking to him like he was normal. Like he was a Demigod, not something hardly either of them knew anything about.
She placed him right next to her. Aden shivered at her touch. The only person who had ever gotten so close they could touch him was his dad and that was to pass him popcorn or read him bedtime stories when he was little. Oh and Mrs. Debbie, his ancient babysitter from way back when. But she had nearly been blind and deaf. Plus, she had been waiting for death for years, maybe Aden was as close as she could get. And eventually she got her wish.
Aden was suddenly curious about September. Was she named that because she was born in that month? Who was her parent? What things could she do? He almost forgot about the Obstacle Course.
Until she ripped him away, running with him in the opposite direction. Aden liked how she took control--just did something, already bolting into action. Daughter of Zeus maybe. He shot a look back and saw a Satyr shouting things at them and waving around some weird pipes...
He had no clue where they were going. He hardly knew his way around here, even though it had almost been a week. It wasn't as if they handed out maps--that would be too easy. Apparently, this place was all about preparing heroes for the future and survival. He wanted to ask why half-monsters like himself had to learn that kind of stuff if they were, basically, fighting their ungodly parents. But not one teacher was keen on answering that one.
"Where... where are we going?!" He asked, though there was some relief in his eyes. words: 371 (short cause I was hurrying! XD) muse: pretty good! comments: phoenix downs=bring you back to life!!1one! music: breathe me - sia

"You do....?
Seppie stifled a snicker. How could he be so innocent? She just chuckled softly to herself, just quietly enough for Aden to let it go by unnoticed. "Of course! Who wouldn't like a perfectly great name like Aden?" She smiled.
Dragging Aden by his hand, Seppie was glad he made no attempt to free himself. At least that showed he had some degree of trust in her, which Seppie, herself, can ever gain from others. "I see a best friend forming," she thought.
"Where are we going?" Aden asked. Seppie just shrugged and kept running. A large hill was approaching them, so Seppie just through her entire body forward, and charged up, hoping nothing doesn't snap inside of her as they made their way up the incline. Once on top, Seppie was glad there was a flat area before the descent to the other side of the hill.
"Thank the Gods for this flat ground! I felt like I was going to break my legs!" She smiled goofily at Aden. "So, aren't you going to sit down?" She beckoned with an extended arm. She yawned, and lay down, arms splayed out on the grass. Apollo's car was burning against her face, but it made Seppie feel happy and warm. It was like being a kid again when nothing would ever attack her and she was cosidered a 'normal' kid.
Seppie's eyes wandered around, but in the end they always landed on Aden. She didn't know why. Was it his baby boy face? His eyes? Or was it just the pure aura around him? Seppie didn't want to find out. She was content at gazing into his face, so cute and baby-ish. What a sappy little girl September was!
