The phrase, "A deal's a deal, even with a dirty dealer," kept pounding in Noah's head, every time he even considered running as far away from Persephone and her over bearing mother, who just happened to be Noah's aunt as well. At least Persephone, or Prissy, as Noah liked to think of her, was just as uncomfortable as he was, but there had been no escaping Demeter, not at this time of year anyway. And between the two of them, Noah's day was pure torture, they both seemed to think he needed to wear something light, frilly and...pink. Just thinking of the word nearly made Noah retch right there on the Manhattan sidewalk. More than once he had been tempted to remind the goddesses, that he was not in fact some girl, or a dolly to play dress up with, but wisely held his tongue knowing how...inventive divine punishment could be.
"Lewis, you had better be damned grateful for this," Noah muttered darkly as the women fussed over what to put him in next. Fortunately, they were so busy with their own debate/argument, that they hadn't heard him. And for about the ten trillionth time that day he considered shadow traveling to his father's palace and eating every bit of food he could find, just to escape the constant torturous mothering he was drowning in.
He had only recently reconciled with his own estranged mother, and was coming to terms with that, but how he had his step-mother and her mother to contend with. He was positive Atlas had the better deal at the moment. It was only slightly amusing when their discussion got a little heated, after all this was Demeter and Persephone, the very essence of mother-daughter bonding. He used this time to sneak outside the shop and light up a cigarette.
He didn't normally smoke, in fact this had to be the first one he had had since he made his way to Camp all those years ago, but gods he needed it today. He lit up, taking a small drag, feeling the world fade away for but a moment. He exhaled, making little smoke rings that he watched fade away into the New York smog. "Much better," he thought only an instant before Prissy irritated face appeared directly in front of him, demanding to know what he was doing out there.
"I needed a smoke break for crying out loud, it's like I could hide from this, oh so wonderful bonding experience," it was hard to tell if he was being sincere or sarcastic as he took another drag off his cigarette, bound and determined to finish it before returning to his sentence, but Demeter's annoying tapping foot, squashed that idea right away. With a defeated sigh he used his fingers to put out the glowing cherry and carefully stash it back in the pack. He fixed a smile so fake it was painful on his face before commenting,
"Shall we continue ladies?"
