Bellatrix woke up a bit agitated. She blamed the fact that she was sleeping in a tent in the middle of a god forsaken forest filled with monsters who would want to eat her. She groaned grabbing a pair of clothes and changing inside of her tent. Though Bellatrix had the tent all to herself and didn’t have to share it without any siblings it felt…lonely to her. Sighing she changed, brushed her teeth and grabbed her hair pin that was a miniature gold spear. Bellatrix shook the spear muttered some words in Latin and spear grew in size to look the same as the spear of her father, Mars.
Unlike the children of the Greek Olympians, Bellatrix was the daughter of a Roman deity, Mars to be exact. So far she was the only child of his in her tent, it sucked be the eighteen year old senior without many people to relate to. Yawning the morning mush out of Bellatrix made her way to the deeper parts of the forest till she was half way from the Roman Encampment and the school as well. Unlike most students at Half-Blood Academy, Bellatrix chose the forest to practice her fighting rather than the arena.
She wasn’t sure why it was this way but it just was, she only went to arena when wanted someone to challenge and that was usually the children of Aries seeing as they were usually the best fighters in the school of Half-Bloods. She didn’t know much about the Titan or monster children but supposed they wouldn’t be too much of a challenge to fight either.
Bella brought her spear downward cutting through the air killing an invisible enemy groaning as she killed a false army one by one. She would do this for an hour each day before moving on to something else this was a good way to release any morning tension from the night or day before.

His eyes opened gently. As it always did, his body protested that this was way too early. Of course no one forced him to get up and exercise, at least not yet. However, he felt that if he was going to practice to fight monsters or whatever, he would need to be in better shape. He pulled on his gray sweatpants, and the “Krewe of Rhea” t-shirt Mama Delaney had given him. Some guys snickered when he wore it to work out, it was a woman’s krewe, but he didn’t care. And now, he especially liked it given what he’d found out about his parentage. Though as far as Krewes went, Mama Delaney had mentioned that when he turned eighteen he should start waiting to hear from Krewe of Rex. That made him feel kind of honored, one of the most famous krewes in all of New Orleans was interested in him. He pulled out the MP3 player that Mama Delaney had sent him and put in the ear buds and started up a playlist marked “Sweat”. It was all up-beat or heavy rhythm; perfect for working out to. He pulled on his socks and shoes and walked down stairs. He didn’t have a route set up just yet so he was winging it on where he would run. He stretched a bit, not wanting to pull anything. He started at a light jog, but as he found that to be easier than he thought it would be, he picked up the pace. He didn’t expect jogging to be so easy. He’d been running for a few minutes, letting his mind get lost in the music and only paying enough attention to the surrounding forest to not run into trees, when he came upon another person. He didn’t realize she was there at first, again only paying enough attention to the surroundings to not hit trees. He came perilously close to her spear range before he realized that he was singing, aloud, about how stupid things should be don’t be cause ‘the chicks dig it’.

Bellatrix slashed the air turning her feet with every movement. She was in tune with her weapon and her movements so in tune that she didn’t hear the fourteen year old coming toward her. In fact she could have sliced him with her spear. But the most amusing part she found was that the boy was singing, loudly and off tune if she might add. It was comical enough to make her lips twitch into a smirk this confused her usually she would be annoyed or something if this happened to another person. She shrugged it off maybe it was because she relieved so much tension and stress already.
“Is there a reason you’re here or are you just eager to get slashed by a spear?” Bellatrix asked a bit challengingly. Though the boy seemed younger than her he was taller than her about six feet. His face however had a youthful appearance to it he was probably fourteen, definitely not an eighteen year old senior like herself. Bellatrix looked at his clothes he wore a Krewe of Rhea t-shirt, so she supposed he was a Titan child maybe the child of Rhea by his shirt.
She figured he had to be strong if Rhea was his parent, meaning she gave birth to the Greek Olympians and married Kronos and such but there was something about the person in front of her, something about him that triggered her forgotten maternal instincts. She just wanted to protect him though he looked like he could fend for himself. Having never met a child of Rhea before Bellatrix couldn’t say for sure if these were the traits to look for but she was merely guessing right now.
Re-reading the shirt she realized that the shirt was a kitchen term to be more common from the south, the kid was a southerner. This brought a smirk to Bellatrix’s face, being from Atlanta, Georgia she couldn’t help but be a little pleased and lenient on him just for that fact.

He practically skidded to a halt. He jerked his earbuds out and blushed lightly. Singing was not his strong suit. If he had any musical talent, it was playing the trumpet, but even then it wasn’t something he was knock down amazing at. He apologized in French, then in English. “J-Just out-out for a run,” he puffed lightly. He wasn’t in as good a shape as he’d hoped. Running through the woods was a bit tougher than running on the track up at the high school back home. “I guess I wasn’t paying close enough attention. Sorry. I’m Dominic, but friends just call me DD.” He eyed her large golden spear. He felt that should mean something to him, but he wasn’t sure what. He gauged her as a senior and a part of his mind said, ‘I’m probably not that lucky.’ He tried to figure out if he was actually interested or if his inner monologue was making poor attempts at comedy. Her gave her a warm smile. “’Least it’s nice out. Mama Delaney (Lady what raised me up) she’d pull me straight inside at the slightest drop of rain… especially after Katrina.” Urg, he was talking about the weather. He rubbed the back of his head, knowing he must sound like a fool. He muttered a bit of self-deprecating French under his breath. He didn’t realize that anyone who spoke understood latin fluently might be able to make out what he’d said. “Smooth idiot. I’m sure she wants to talk about the weather” had been his exact words in French. He looked at her spear again and he thought about weapons. A lot of students came to the school with magical weapons. He wondered if he should try and ask his mother about that. If he ever figured out how to get in contact with her. He shook himself from staring at his spear and looked at her. She was pretty that was sure enough. He smiled again, this time a bit of a goofy grin.

Bellatrix raised an eyebrow at his rambling, the style he spoke in left no doubt in his mind that DD was from the south. But she wondered if there was something wrong with him since he seemed to stumble over his words and was talking to himself in French. Maybe he was girl shy? Or perhaps it was Bella’s spear that was making him nervous. Deciding that she had enough practice for today she muttered the magic words in Latin and the spear turned into a tiny golden spear hair pin. Bellatrix then put it into her hair holding her dark brown curls back.
Ugh how Bellatrix hated her hair sometimes, it was just curly and so hard to manage at times, when it was wet it wasn’t that bad but the amount of hair products she had to put in it sometimes was unbearable. Maybe she could ask some daughters of Venus to fix it up for her; they always seemed to enjoy doing those kinds of things. Mentally shaking her head free of these thoughts she focused on the matter at hand and that was DD for the moment. Bellatrix had to admit he did look kind of cute especially seeing as he was freaking out so much around her and had that goofy grin on his face at the moment. For a while Bellatrix wondered if he knew that he had that look on his face or was he unaware that he was carrying that look.
Finally having enough of wondering in her head, Bella had to ask just to figure out if she was right or not. “You’re from the south aren’t you? You just have that tone to the way you talk is all so it made me wonder” she confessed though she no longer carried the southern accent Bellatrix’s personality had southern qualities. Bella hadn’t lived in the south ever since she ran away from home and came to camp here, so after being away from home so long her voice lost its southern charm.

He was very impressed by how she transformed her shield, and when she put it away he couldn’t help but notice he reaction to her own hair. Not so different from Mama Delaney’s… when she was much younger. The name of Mama Delaney’s favorite shampoo popped out of his mouth. “Umm, that’s what Mama Delaney used on her hair, it had curls a lot like yours.” He finished a bit lamely in his opinion. He didn’t realize that she might not take him seriously. He ran into a racial misunderstanding from time to time. Mama Delaney was black and he was white. There was no mistaking either for being mixed, but he forgot sometimes that people would assume his guardian was white.
He grinned, “From… hard to know. My mother, Rhea, Had me with someguy, but I never knew him. She gave me to Mama Delaney as a newborn. I was raised up in the Big Easy, ‘Nawlins. So in that since, yeah, I’m from the south. ‘Grew up on channel cat and craw fish.” He shrugged. “What about you, chere?” he asked, using a familiarism he’d picked up from Mama Delaney. It literally meant “Dear”. He didn’t mean to belittle her; it was just how he spoke. “Most I hear in your voice is New York, but you don’t talk about a southerner the way a Yankee does.”
He didn’t make a conscious effort to wipe away a goofy smirk, or blush from his face. If he had any charm or looks, they were unintentional. He was definitely getting his wind back. ‘She is pretty,’ He thought again. He wondered if she would ever give a guy younger than her the time of day. He was about to write it off as an impossibility when he remembered an old Boudreaux and Thibideaux Joke… you gotta buy a ticket. She might shoot him down, but he wouldn’t know if he didn’t try.

Bellatrix nodded at his explanation of his background it wasn’t unusual for some Half-Bloods to be adopted so she believed his story especially since he had nothing to gain from lying to her. “I’m from Georgia but I ran away from my grandparents home when I was seven cause monsters were attacking me from left and right I’ve been here ever since I got claimed by my father so the accent left after being her for so long” Bellatrix explained thinking about her past as well, she missed her grandparents they were the nicest people on the planet and taught her how to use her anger to protect people instead of picking fights all the time. It hurt thinking that she hadn’t called or tried contacting them in eleven years but she was afraid if she tried the monsters would show up again. Bellatrix wasn’t afraid of any monsters but what she was afraid of was losing her grandparents like how she had lost the mother she never got a chance to meet.
“My name is Bellatrix Brennan by the way” Bellatrix introduced holding out her hand to shake. DD seemed nice and kind of cute for a younger kid maybe it was the accent or the southern nicknames that reminded her of her old home but there was something about him that just did something to her. Though she did notice he blushed a lot around her and had been staring at her a lot it made her think he wasn’t used to being around girls or something she shrugged it off. He was fourteen he was probably just getting into the phase where he actually started to like girls it wasn’t anything special about that.
Though Bella started thinking about what his parent was, if he was girl nervous she quickly crossed off a child of Aphrodite or Venus they boys there were womanizers and always knew what to say to a girl. DD was more socially awkward by the way he acted maybe he was a child of some god of shyness. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Count:345 Muse:Well Thalia is Comedy Eros is love....probably both Notes: Catfish I love never had crawfish but I'll take your word for it

“Land of sweet peaches,” he nodded. He’d never been out that way. He and Mama Delaney had never left New Orleans in his life, except during Katrina. “Would explain where you’re accent’s gone. Monsters attacked us too, but I tried to wait it out… but they kept coming. I couldn’t keep putting Mama Delaney in danger like that. I met Milinoe” He used the Roman name though he’d met her in her greek “Meilinoe” aspect, because those were the names of the gods he’d learned. All Krewes used Roman names. “She told me about my mother, Rhea. I guess it was no coincidence Mama Delaney belonged to the Krewe of Rhea. Anyway, she told me I’d even been claimed and that I should be headed here, So Mama Delaney decided it was for my best interest.”
“Got claimed by your father?” he asked. “Is it okay to ask who he was? I took a stab in the dark at someone else’s parent, and she got rather riled.” He chuckled a little at the incident. He’d accidently stumbled on a girl singing to herself in the woods, much as he’d been doing when Bellatrix found him, and guessed that she was the daughter of Apollo. She had seemed a bit defensive.
She told him her name and he loved it, not only the alliteration of it, but the sound of her name. He gave her a mischievous smile. “DO you know what ‘Belle’ means in French?” he asked, referring to her name. His confidence faltered slightly, as he started to think this might make him sound smarmy or like some guy in a bar coming on to her. “It…w ell, It means beautiful. That’s why, you know… Beauty and the Beast… her name was Belle.” Yeah, and now he was talking about Disney. That must sound really intelligent.

Bellatrix listened to his story of his past when he left his home in New Orleans and couldn’t help but make a slight O when she learned that his mother was Rhea. That meant that he was the brother of Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto it was really amazing, though she began to wonder if he was as strong as his brothers and sisters or did that only apply to full gods?
When he asked Bellatrix who her father was the girl gave a smirk of pride at the thought of her father. “My father is Mars the god of War” she explained pride lacing her voice. Bellatrix was quite proud when she learned that she was the daughter of the war god, naturally it made her a good fighter one of the best if she wished to brag but still the daughter of a war god none the less. So far she was the only child of Mars in her Roman camp though she hoped that it would change soon. She always wanted some siblings but then again in battle they could slow you down so Bella was on the fence about the sibling thing really.
Then she heard DD tell her the meaning of the name Belle it made her laugh a bit it sounded like he was trying to impress her with his knowledge of French though he wasn’t that confident it seemed. “Actually I was named after the star Bellatrix it means female warrior, my grandparents gave me that name since my mom died before she could name me…they knew she liked roman myths and stuff so they named me Bellatrix though now a day’s everyone seems to call me Bellatrix Lestrange” Bellatrix explained resentment coming in her voice when she explained the stupid nickname the other Roman campers gave her. She knew she had a tendency to be mean and a bit of a bully but she hated being given the title of a book character, especially if that character was the insane bad guy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Count: 339 Muse:twist my nipples never really into the muses much really Notes: Would if I could but not many in CA

“Mars…” he mused. “Mars, mars, Mars… You know, that may be one of the few Roman gods that don’t have a Krewe,” he smiled. “Baccus has several, if you count Barkus, Saturn, Okeanos, but not Mars. You know, I think there are the Knights of Sparta… but they aren’t in his name.” He shrugged. “Might be a good one if some vets ever wanted to start a Krewe. He shrugged again. She hadn’t asked, and growing up in New Orleans, everyone know what a Krewe was so he didn’t bother explaining. “That has to be cool though, a god of soldiers and warfare, probably makes ya’ll pretty tough.” He smiled, he liked tough women. He was raised by one. And it probably meant she would never be like his mother and let a monster father her child. He looked her in the face and gave a smile. A smile that looked right into her and told her that he could see a lot in her, and he liked it all. He couldn’t of course, he did not have the ability to see a person’s past or soul, but some people can give that sense without even trying. Damn, star. “Well, I think I’ll still call you ‘Belle,’” he replied. “For short…” He realized he was chickening out again. “And because it’s accurate. Book be damned. I never got to read ‘em actually.” He chuckled. “Mama Delaney thought they would get me into Paganism.” He gave her one of those “That worked out well” expressions. “Umm…” He paused, not sure how to broach this. Mentioning Meilinoe had made him remember. “Have you met many gods?” He hadn’t thought about it since he’d got here, but Meilinoe had been deferential toward him. Curtsied at his approach, with actual respect, not sarcasm. Then she’d been helpful and kind. He had thought gods were supposed to look down on mortals and demi-gods.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Count: 318 Muse: Okay, lets see if Eros and Thalia mind getting Calliope in here. Bellatrix shrugged when he said that he would call her Belle she didn’t really care a lot of people gave her nicknames. Personally her favorite had always been Triss, for some reason she just liked that one made cause it made her think it had spunk to it. Shaking her head she looked at DD when he asked her if he had ever met a god before then once more she shook her head.
“I’ve never met a god before,…though not all of them look down on half-bloods or mortals if they did we probably wouldn’t exist, and a lot of gods like heroes we have to do all the hard work for them” As if Jupiter had heard her from the campus the sky seemed to roar with thunder in the sky above. Bellatrix did nothing more then roll her eyes and wave a hand dismissively seeming to not care much for the gods. This wasn’t true but sometimes she felt the gods were much too sensitive at times.
“I’ve never even met my father before so the only gods I know are the ones who teach at the school and I’ve never really met them either” Bellatrix explained continuing with the conversation as if she didn’t just dismiss Jupiter or Zeus whichever name you preferred for them. She looked at DD and finally just had to ask.
“What grade are you in DD?” Bellatrix wondered aloud he was tall but boyish features he probably looked like a sophomore or a freshman. Most likely the latter he still seemed nervous around girls and stuff, Sophmores got a little turtleier once they had a year under their belt and senior boys are the worst know that they believe they rule the school. The senior boys in the Roman Camp were just annoying after so much time with them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Count: 308 Muse: how about you just bring all the muses while youre at it Notes:twist my nipples never heard that one before

“Hmm,” DD pondered. “It’s just when I met Milinoe… she bowed to me. Addressed me as Child of Rhea.” He shrugged. “I didn’t think Gods did things like bowing to mortals.” This now bothered him greatly. Why would she bow to him? DD didn’t know much about his mother, or her stories. He’d learned she was goddess of blood and flow and motherhood, but that was about it.
When he heard the thunder, he looked up. Katrina did not make one prone to braving the elements. “Maybe we should head back,” he said, thinking it might start raining. “I don’t like the rain. Bad memories.” He thought about going back to New Orleans after the hurricane. The flood damage, the people, everything. It always got him depressed when it rained. That decidedly male part of his brain, shot, ‘Maybe we can at least see what she looks like drenched, chick’s are…’ He began giving that male part of his brain as sound mental thrashing, who’s outward signs was a roll of his own eyes.
“Grade?” he asked. “I’m a freshman,” he admitted reluctantly. “But I’m told I’m quite mature for my age,” he added. In a ‘slow down kid’ gesture to himself he touched his forehead took a breath, and tried to address her more casually, not as some girl he was interested in, which he had difficult not think of her as, but as a friend. Okay, thinking of her as a friend helped some. “What about you? What grade are you in?” He guessed she was older, but didn’t know how much. She definitely had some maturity, that is to say life experience and emotional stability, in her face. He liked that. He didn’t need a lot of drama in his life. He didn’t want someone who was going to play with him.

Bellatrix nodded and decided to walk with DD back to the school; she wasn’t in the south for Hurricane Katrina but obviously DD had been. She seemed confused about his lack of knowledge of Rhea; she was his mother after all. But then he was a freshman a year before he was probably just claimed by his parent and not many stories were told with Rhea in them. But still it was a major story in Roman and Greek mythology. “I’m a senior…but how can you not expect special treatment being a son of Rhea. She is the mother of the big three gods, Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto then the wife of Saturn, sister of Oceanus and Atlas, she is the mother of the greatest of gods” Bellatrix said skeptically wondering if DD was playing with her and that’s why he was saying these things to her. In her opinion only a fool would not know about their own parentage. But he was mature for his age and he was nervous around her, these signs made Bellatrix doubt that he was lying to her about this type of thing.
Thunder cracked again when the two reached the outer layer of the school. She wondered if Jupiter would be upset now that he wasn’t the baby of the family anymore or would he let go of the title and pass it on to his half-brother DD. For his sake she prayed to the gods that Jupiter didn’t care much because people who made Jupiter made didn’t last very long in life alive or as humans anyway. When the rain began to fall, lightly at first then it started to get heavier the other students began to run for cover, Bellatrix looked at DD seriously wanting to get her point across to him since he seemed inexperienced. “You should study the mythology more…a lack of knowledge about the past could get you killed in a battle and I’m not sure if your brothers would have pity on you for it” ----------------------------------------------- Count:338 Muse:twist my nipples sorry i'm about to make it more serious Notes: not sure if Oceanus and Atlas have different names in Roman so I just used the greek ones

As she finally brought her point home a look of awe and shock came of her face. “Brothers,” he muttered. “I hadn’t thought of that.” In honesty he had always wanted brothers. He’d gotten along okay with the people at his school but… a brother is more than a friend. A brother is family, blood. A brother is there, no matter what for the simple reason that you are family. He didn’t have that, and it was something he’d always been jealous of. His mother had other children? He’d never read the myths. His brothers were the big gods? He recognized their names and nearly slid down the wall from shock.
She mentioned that he should study more. “You’re right,” he replied in an obliterated voice. “I never studied before because… well, like I said, I grew up Catholic. We didn’t study pagan faiths. I mean, I found out what a lot of the gods were gods of through the krewes and celebrations, but I didn’t know their stories… or their relationships.” He rubbed his face and another thought occurred to him. “Wait, do I have a step-father?” curiosity burned in him. More than a brother, more than his own float, more than anything in him, he’d wanted a father. He always felt emasculated when some guys started talking about this sport or that engine and he had no idea what they were talking about. He knew how to use tools, he was strong and reasonably well coordinated, but there were some things a father taught you.
If he were thinking he’d have remembered that all of these relatives he was now recalling were gods, which meant they didn’t mix with mortals, and they didn’t have touchy-feely reunions or gushy conversations. They most certainly didn’t do family bonding exercises. He was not, however, thinking entirely rationally about it. He was thinking, for a change, like a fourteen-year-old orphan who might get exactly what he always dreamed about.
