He was falling, no he was doing more than that...he was crashing...they were all crashing to the earth with sicken speed. The ship was gone, well the Stygian iron portions of the ship were gone. The celestial bronze bit were hurtling towards the ground right alongside, beneath and above the rest of them. "So...guess we're going to die..." Jesse's thoughts were strangely calm as he plummeted mind numbing speed. Something had gone wrong with Leeland's ship, something that made it break apart...something that took the bits of underworld metals and didn't give it back as Noah and Joelle had made the ship shadow travel. "And now we're going to die, isn't that just peachy..." Jesse thought as he tried to gain some kind of control to his fall and fervently praying, "You know dad, I could really use a river, or a lake or some kind of water right about now, so I...you know...don't turn into a puddle of goo when I give me regards to mother earth..."Perhaps Oceanus was answering his prayers, perhaps the Fates took pity on him and his fellow questers, maybe they thought it would be amusing to offer this bit of hope before taking it away again like some kind of taunting bully. But for the moment Jesse saw this abandoned, rather dirty Olympic sized swimming pool, as a gift from the gods...or titans, whatever the case may be. He tried to steer himself toward the center of the pool, making it a slightly bigger target, grabbing the nearest hands on either side of him, which just happened to belong to Lukas and Jacen. He had just enough time to think, "Let's hope we'll be able to breathe when we hit..." as the trio plunged beneath the surface. For a moment, it seemed as though everything was going to be alright, they were safely floating in the polluted water of the swimming pool, alive and more or less well, when the "punchline" of the Fate's joke smacked Jesse right in the head, in the form of a bronze spar from the now disintegrated ship. Now he was floating in some kind of blackness, not really moving, just kind of bobbing like a rubber duck in a bath tub. "Not bad, I'd give you 9 out of 10 makes for that landing and rescue of your friends. A point off for getting yourself knocked upside the head though,""In fairness dad, that wasn't exactly my fault, now was it,""True enough, ok I'll give you 9.5 out of 10, you did still get knocked out now didn't you,"Jesse couldn't help but smile as he the vision of his father became clearer, although it did tend to shift between the human form he had seen him in the last time Jesse paid him a visit, and the massive bull horned, serpent tailed form that adorned the Ocaeanus House back at the Academy. "So to what do I owe this unexpected pleasure, oh daddy dearest," Jesse remarked rather flippantly as he grinned up at his father. "Firstly to say how proud I am that you followed my, ahem, suggestion that you join in on this little quest. Secondly, to warn you that the trials ahead are going to be severe, but I know you will be able to handle it. Jacen will need you more than you can possibly understand in the coming days, be there for him, and be the leader you are meant to be...looks like you're friends are trying to get your attention, so I'll leave you to them, go with my love, and my blessing...""I think he's coming around..." the whispered words echoed in Jesse's head like canon shots as his mind reluctantly forced its way back into consciousness. "Have I mentioned, I really hate the desert?" Jesse croaked not wanting to open his eyes, "It's kind of important to know, I'm just saying," his head throbbed like a bass drum as he squinted up at his friends' faces. "You guys're all wet...I trust you didn't go and have too much fun without me," he offered a crooked smile and closed his eyes again to ease the pain. "So...that was fun, the whole not dying thing wasn't it?" Word Count: 764 Muse: not bad at all Tags: Jacen, Lukas Notes: Have fun

*Roman Encampment - Arches National Park, Utah*
Nicky stood over looking the park from one of the many magnificent rock formations taking in the scenery. More than that he was on sentry duty, checking the park for any "strange" events that might suggest that the "fun" was about to begin. Fortunately, all was quiet, unfortunately that meant another sleepless night as he and the others of his team took turns standing watch at all hours of the day and night. Nicky sighed to himself, adjusting his position to be a little less uncomfortable. He had never wanted any of this, he would have been happy as could be staying in San Fransisco training with Lupa and the rest, but no he was Nicky Alexander, younger half brother of Jason Grace, son of Jupiter...there was no slacking off or "easy" duty when you were related to the greatest Roman hero since Caesar, and the son of the King of the Gods.
Everyone had expected that Nicky would eventually take Jason's place at the head of the 1st Legion, but Nicky had done everything in his power to prevent that from happening. He didn't want to be the substitute for someone else, he wanted to be taken on his own merit, his own skill, never mind what everyone else wanted of him. So he had found his way into a relatively lowly posting in 2nd Legion under the command of a son of Minerva. Which in itself wasn't so bad, but it was a long way from being the next best thing to Emperor of Rome, in this day and age.
But even that didn't go as he had wanted. He wasn't allowed to remain in the shadow even here in the 2nd Legion. Their commander and a few others had disappeared shortly after they had arrived in the Park. No trace of them to be found. Which left Nicky feeling a bit bitter and resentful, not just because everyone assumed that he would take over with Tony out of the picture, but a rather harsh and persistent dream version of his step mother Juno, had more or less told him that was exactly what he was going to do, whether he liked it or not. He wished he could say things had been simpler at one point in his life, but that would have been an out and out lie.
As far back as he could remember he had been fighting monsters, and living in the shadow of his father and much more famous brothers and sisters, it was all he knew. And now he was expected to start casting a light of his own when he had absolutely no desire to do so...he slapped the tattoo of his father's eagle on his right forearm to clear his head.
"That's enough wool gathering, time to get back to camp and see what the other have found," he ordered himself as he got to his feet and picked his way back down to the base camp.
"All clear on this end, how about you guys?" Nicky asked as he strode into camp looking decidedly tired. "I tried to find whatever cause that bang and smoke last night, but there's no trace of anything, for at least 5 miles to the east. I'd like to investigate, but I think for the time being we need to stick together and start getting some sleep. If one of these arches starts operating, and we're all dead on our feet exhausted..." Nicky shrugged sitting down at the camp fire accepting a plate of food from a nearby trooper.
"Still no sign of Tony or the others?" he asked carefully guarding his hope that they had, fervently wishing to pass this responsibility on to someone else. "We'll just have to keep looking, they can't have just disappeared into thin air like that..."

Jacen grinned as Jesse got up, calming his heartbeat, which had objected to Jesse passing out in the first place. He let out breath he hadn't known he'd been holding, and then dropped the smile.
His gear, his armor, and his clothes were gone, crushed or waterlogged from the crash. He began salvaging what he could, regretting how he had frozen as they had fallen out of the sky. He controlled the winds- he could have helped steer it, or maybe even have held it up. Anyway, the landing had been impressive.
And Jesse grabbing Jacen's hand? Priceless, for both its humor and the action itself.
Jacen's frown vanished with Jesse's words. Yes, he was wet, but he could fix that. He flicked his fingers, as if shooing the droplets away, and they followed suit. Visibly, it was impressive; a haze of dirty drops shot out from him, and then rained down to the ground.
He wanted to do the same for Lukas, but he figured it might be rude to use his powers on another. Besides, he would need as much juice as he could get, and their supply of food was a bit wet. Jesse could fend for himself, against water, anyway.
Jacen dusted himself off, stood, and began to search the perimeter. They had landed here by chance, so it wasn't likely that there would be trouble, but with enemies like these, there were no coincidences. He jumped as he saw a rat skitter across the changing room- the boys, as it so happened, and nearly leaped out of his shoes when he saw a skeleton, probably a cat's, in the shower.
Exiting the building part of the pool, he noticed how much disrepair it was in. Who would ever build a pool in the desert, anyway? The pioneer-age ghost town around it he could understand, but pools were not from the 1840's.
He took a look at the other pool in the complex; a walk in pool that looked filthy. Suspicious, he waved his hands, and cleared the water of silt for a few meters in the deep end.
Something caught his eye, something green and scaly. Jacen focused, opening up bubbles of pure water randomly in the pool, until he caught a glimpse of something, something bad.
A Triton, Tanagran by the looks of it; razors for teeth, a scaly, impenetrable hide, and deep red eyes. The eyes, while not having any power in specific, were still mesmerizing and glowy, making Jacen freeze again.
Then, he dug in his pocket, took out a keyring, and held it in his hand. Instantly, a five-foot long staff appeared, and as he twisted, blades jutted out of either end.
"Jesse, Lukas? Problem over here!" The creature hadn't left the water. Jacen didn't know if it could, but he definitely didn't want to find out. Tritons were known to have a mean streak ten miles wide.
They were also amphibious, meaning neither of Jacen's powers could help here.

As much as she hated to admit it, Emily couldn't sleep, every time she closed her eyes she would see the face of some baby she half remembered, but couldn't remember why. The she would remember a trip to California and some old house for some reason, but then the baby's face was gone. She knew it meant something, but was no closer to understanding what it really was, so she decided she needed to get out and go for a walk in the moonlight, maybe that would help sort things out in her head. Emily left her sisters sleeping in the Artemis House and started to walk towards the woods, but felt a strange pull towards the Hera House. It wasn't really a student house like the others, more of an honorary shrine or something, no one ever lived there, and few if any ever visited it. For some reason, Emily felt she needed to visit tonight. Snatching up a few wild flowers from the grounds she pushed her way into the temple-like house and lay the wild flower offering before the stern looking statue of Hera. "My Lady Queen of the Heavens, long suffering step mother, please accept this offering, as meager as it may be, in the spirit it is intended," Emily whispered quietly kneeling before the statue. "I accept your offering little daughter," came the same grandmotherly voice Emily had heard in the Great Hall. "My Lady," Emily muttered bowing her head deeply. "Rise child, our time together is limited, and there are things I must tell you before we part. You are aware that there is a quest in progress which is meant to 'save' the school and so on?" Emily merely nodded, avoiding making eye contact with the goddess. "Events have taken place, which threaten that very quest, the ship carrying many of your demigod brethren was destroyed. The demigods live, I have ensured this, for the time being. But my brother Hades' graciousness is not long lasting, I am afraid that he will only keep them safe and well until the Summer solstice. At which time he will release them from their enchanted sleep in the Underworld and leave them to their own devices. They may escape, as so many souls have been, or they may take up Persephone's curse and eat the food of the Underworld, trapping them there forever. Or they will suffer a living death. "I have not forgotten the assistance demigods have provided us during our last great war, and this is why I have protected them to this point. However, my honored husband, your father," Emily flinched involuntarily at her words, leaving Hera to look momentarily amused. "Is not known for his patience, nor for it being tested by his fellows by assisting demigods, against his command. He has thus far turned a blind eye to our prompting, and small assistance, as he too remembers the great services rendered by demigods, but even he has his limits when it comes to graciousness. "Child, you must gather three others with you and depart at once to Death's Gateway, there you will find the assistance we all will need in the coming days, and the means by which the Sleeping Ones may be saved. Go now, and go with my blessing..." Hera faded away leaving behind the scent of fresh Pomegranates. Emily woke some time later curled up beneath the statue of Hera, morning had come, filling Emily with a sense of purpose, driving her to the Dining Hall where she announced, "I have been given a quest by the Queen of the Heavens herself, I am to take three of you with me, so those of your who would answer your Queen's call, meet me at the Academy Entrance in one hour. Come prepared for we venture to Death's Gateway, and there is a very real chance we may not return..." Charlie was in the dining hall, not really eating. She moved her food around with her fork. She wasn’t hungry, she’d just some here as something to do. Not that she was at a lack of things to do. Charlie didn’t really know why’d she’s come to the Dining hall. Something had pulled her there, maybe her father was trying to make her do something? Charlie didn’t know.
It wasn’t until Emily, Charlie’s half sister who’d joined Artemis had stood up that Charlie realized why she was there. A quest? A chance to go to the outside world? Explore? Run? Take pictures that didn’t have the school as a background? Maybe it wasn’t the right reason to want to go, but Charlie did. Want to go, that is.
It intrigued her that her stepmother had given Emily the quest, intrigued her even more that Emily was going.
Charlie knew three things about Emily. Her name, that she was a daughter of Zeus, and that she was a huntress of Artemis. That was it. You’d think she’d know a little more about a girl who was basically family.
Something in the back of her mind reminded her quests were dangerous, that she might even be killed.
Shh inner monologue, Charlie thought, already having made up her mind. At least I’d be doing something adventurous. Demigods are supposed to do things like this, it makes you stronger.
Charlie then wondered what the quest was. Maybe it was something small.
Though it did come from Hera, the queen. It couldn’t be small. Charlie was so caught up in thought she almost didn’t catch the rest of what Emily had to say.
Death’s gateway? Did that mean the underworld? Not return? A chill ran down Charlie’s spine. It wasn’t a bad chill though, it was a chill of excitement. Charlie had never been in the underworld, even for a demigod that was a rare task. Now Charlie really had to go.
Charlie was being a little to optimistic. Not return meant death. Charlie didn’t want to die. Underworld meant not getting to see the sky every time she looked up. Slowly, Charlie started to doubt her decision.
Quest meant action. A chance to use the skills she’d been learning and put them to the test. This was the life Charlie wanted and she was going to go.
Quickly leaving the dining room Charlie made her way to the Zeus residence, and once there grabbed her bag. She packed her small digital camera, some clothes, and a container full of strawberries she’d picked herself. Then, she realized she didn’t know what else to pack. Was there anything else? She was already wearing her running shoes. She couldn’t think of anything important enough to need.
She grabbed a water bottle, made sure her swiss army charm bracelet was on and headed out the door. Then she looked back. “Bye.” She whispered to the house. This spontaneous questing thing was playing with Charlie’s emotions. She really wanted to go, but she couldn’t help but feel the small tugs holding her back.
Was she gonna inform her mother of this trip? Of course not, she’s going loopy as it is, no need to scare her. Charlie thought.
Charlie was thinking to much. She shook her head to clear it and headed off to the Academy Entrance, where she sat, placed her small blue bag on her lap and waited for more people to show.

Lacey, being her normal late self, rushed to the Dinging Hall, only to stop when she heard a voice she recognized as one of the huntresses of Artemis. A quest? Hera? Death's Gateway? were just a few of the many quick thoughts that flooded her young head. Lacey continued past the Dining Hall, in fact she raced back to her room to begin gathering her stuff.
Lacey pulled her backpack from beneath her bed. She stopped before packing a thing as she felt a jolt through her body, not electricity, it was more like sudden fear. Lacey hadn't even thought about the dangers that could lay ahead. A quest from Hera means it won't be easy by any means, and Death's Gateway is going to have something to do with the Underworld, where you may never return from. Lacey couldn't believe how stupid she'd been to not even consider the dangerous task she was willing to undertake. No, I must go. For Aphrodite. came a voice in her mind, her voice magnified a thousand times. She simply nodded to herself and began packing.
Clothes, a pressed white rose, and her dagger fit perfectly into the backpack. A water bottle and a container of various dried fruits and vegetables filled the backpack to capacity and Lacey looked across the room into the mirror. "A quest" she whispered to herself, laughing softly. "I'm completely insane." she added and slung her backpack over her shoulder.
Lacey headed for the door, but turned in the threshold to look back. The room was empty, and the realization of possibly never coming back sunk in, though she wasn't going to change her mind, that Lacey was sure of. "Bye everyone, I'm sure you'll miss me." she said as if to the ghosts of the Aphrodite residence. A random breeze blew through the room and the smell of roses filled the air. Lacey smiled and finally left her home, the home she'd known for 3 years now and felt more comforting than anywhere.
Lacey began for the Academy Entrance, turning around every couple minutes in fear. No, no, NO! she screamed at herself inside the confines of her own mind, This is your destiny. Accept it. Lacey sighed to herself and reached the Entrance where a blonde girl, a daughter of Zeus if Lacey recalled correctly, was already sitting. She looked ready for whatever came her way, yet looked so young and innocent despite Lacey knowing she was older than herself. Lacey looked down at herself, her brown hair accented by blue highlights - her favorite - and in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt with Converse. Lace couldn't help but laugh at herself. Hatter had been eating lunch, preparing yet another bottle of hooch when the announcement about the quest came up. Her only thought really was, “oh, that sounds lovely. The ducks are so charming this time of year.” She quickly, and daintily stood and divested her pate to the receptacle and made her way back to the Dionysus dormitories. She quickly considered a few outfits before donning her Purple blouse with differently shaded purple leggings, and a third shade of purple on her skirt. She strapped on a breastplate she’d found emblazoned with a small bundle of grapes and goblet. Picked up the spear she’d claimed at the school’s armory, nothing special just a celestial bronzed tipped spear, and the shield that she’d painted a purple eye on. She loaded her back pack with two bottles of top-shelf vodka that she’d found hidden under one of the other beds (She’d left more than enough money to replace them), and lots of purple clothes. She had a small juice box that appeared to have been emptied and refilled, the truth was it contained nectar, but with her habit of making hooch, not many would guess that. She also put in a Tupperware container filled with the grapes from the walls of the dormitory. Her green backpack slung on she picked up the shield and spear and clacked down to the entrance hall.
She was wearing light make up on her cheeks and lips, but none around her eyes. And the fact that her shoes matched marked an improvement over her normal style. All her clothes were designer labels. She approached Emily and smiled, looking at her somewhere in the vicinity of Emily’s chest, “Okiedokie Meer cat Momma, let’s get this show on the road!” Her smile was energetic, and somewhat frightening, like the one someone wore before throwing a surprise party for their worst enemy, or lighting a city on fire.

Once again, he couldn’t even get the message from his mother. DD longed to meet her, or any of his siblings. But no, instead he heard from Eurybia. He had nothing against her, and couldn’t refuse a woman who asked him a favor. He was just not raised that way. He had to help, though he wasn’t quite clear how. He had only the most basic training in most weapons, though he was extremely strong, hopefully that would make up for it. He didn’t know what he was supposed to do. The truth was DD was not aware of most of his gifts. The truth was they were fairly subtle and worked by influencing the way other perceived him. Men felt the need to protect him. Women felt comfortable around him, and any being of magic in nature, thought of him as an equal to the Olympians. He was not, far from it. Aside from his strength, which was considerable even among the demi-Titans, his only other power was not something he’d yet gained any sort of control over, the ability to change the flow of any flowing fluid. As they landed in the pool of stagnant water, he shook himself off. He didn’t like water like that; it brought back bad memories of the hurricane and floods.
He was wearing a white button down under a red vest and jeans. He’d ditched the button-down, leaving himself in just a white under-shirt and his vest. He’d chosen more functional boots that morning, and as always was cleanly shaven. Mama Delaney had always preferred him not to look like “some scruffy hooligan.” He was still unhappily drenched and filthy, with his white button-down now nothing more than future rags tucked in at his waist.
Upon seeing the triton in the water he did the first thing that came to his mind. “Bon jour, mes ami. Good day my friend.” He was scared, but forced a smile onto his face. “My name is DD, and these are my friends. How are you today?” His first instincts were always to talk out problems. He was a peacemaker by nature. He didn’t know much about fighting, especially barehanded, but he wanted to try and help anyway he could. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Count:374, need to step my game up. Tag: Titans, GO! Notes: Umm... I was there the whole time. or I just appeared, what ever works for you, I'll run with it.

If there was one thing that broke Jesse's cool these days, it was Jacen's voice with a slight hint of panic or concern. The words "Jesse" and "Problem" crawled up Jesse's spine forcing him to his feet, dashing over to Jacen's side. His right hand hovered near his bracelet ready to bring his harpoon-like spear into existence. But found he didn't need it just yet, Jacen already had his crazy bladed war-staff thing, and DD seemed to be trying to have a quiet conversation with the rather ugly creature lurking in the water.
"Well now, isn't that a face only a mother could love..." Jesse murmured wondering at the fact that the monster hadn't launched itself at any of them just yet.
"Maybe we don't look as tasty as a nice fat mortal or as um...spicy...as a yummy demigod...good for us...I think," he rambled trying to remember the stories they had been taught at the Academy. He was pretty sure he remembered Tritons being the mer-people children of Poseidon's son Triton, but obviously this ugly bugger was not one of them. There had been another Triton as well, probably this fellow here, something to do with eating maidens cast out to sea, or maybe he was just making that up. Whatever the case, leaving a know dangerous monster alive, even in this deserted dessert...swimming pool, was a bad idea.
He approached the edge of the pool, well aware that in the water he would probably be just fine, but then again so would ugly mugger too.
"Welllick my nostril there," Jesse started brightly fighting to keep his courage, and making up a conversation as he went along. "Say, don't I know you? Didn't I have a date with your sister's husband's ex-wife's roommate's gardener's cousin's girlfriend's mother's ex-husband's half-brother's boyfriend's bus driver's daughter...twice removed..." The red eyes just stared up at him unamused from beneath the filthy surface of the water.
"You know that practically makes us brothers, isn't that fun eh? So my scaly brother, you wouldn't happen to know where we are or anything, now would you?" Jesse couldn't help but feel a sort of wry amusement as he "fished" with words, sure it was a lame joke, but then again if you didn't laugh at your own lame jokes...then you had no sense of humor, or were dead, sometimes both.
Still nothing, the evil red eyes continued to gaze at him uninterested and not the slightest bit entertained by Jesse's little bout of verbal diarrhea.
"I see, I don't suppose you would know where there was a river or pool of fresh water or anything, I'm rather parched, and let's face it, neither of us would want for me to attempt to drink this water---" Jesse jumped back as the monster launched itself out of the depths and onto the edge of the pool, grinning wickedly with nasty sharp pointed teeth.
"Uh, right so if anyone has some, you know, better ideas...now would be a really great time to mention them," he commented gripping his harpoon-spear readying for a fight.

As the monster launched itself at Jesse, Jacen's eyes seemed to darken. He lowered his head, and almost seemed to glower at the creature. He knew Jesse could take care of himself, but some sort of new feeling inside of him told him that he didn't want him to have to.
He didn't have a plan, or an idea, or even a suggestion, and until five seconds ago, he would have been content to put up signs and walk away. But then, it had threatened Jesse, and his idea quickly vanished. Forcing himself to calm down, Jacen tried to think things through.
He wasn't strong, and he wasn't quick, but he was smart. Okay, maybe he was quick too. He would use that to his advantage. Whatever this thing was, it obviously liked the cool, putrid water more than the desert air, and that made sense.
Maybe it was petty anger, or maybe it was an idea, but Jacen held his arms out (dropping the staff). Combining his aerokinesis and his hydrokinesis, he focused, and like Moses and the Red Sea, the water parted in a bowl-shape around the Triton, exposing it to the dry air.
It wavered a bit, but wasn't beat. In fact, Jacen blankly realized that as soon as he noticed there was a 300 lbs sea monster launching itself at his head, and his only weapon was at his feet.
Rather than go down and get it, and make himself vulnerable, he clapped his already outstretched hands. A sort of air wave rippled out from them, blasting the monster back onto the concrete at the other side of the pool.
Jacen's vision went a bit green, and the world gently rocked like a cradle. Pinching himself, he dusted himself off yet again, and grabbed his huthvir, ready for more.

Jacen had just exerted himself. DD realized that was good. They needed to show a good position to negotiate from. He recalled the way a few of the minor gods had reacted to him. He didn't know how well that would work, but he tried to summon it. Every bit of that influence he had on magical beings that made them recognize him as equal to his brothers, even his fellow demi-titans would have felt it. He looked the triton squarely in the eyes. "We can destroy you, or we can find a way to resolve this without harming you." His voice was firm, but not overly threatening. "We need information. We can negotiate if you are reasonable."
DD had no weapon, but as the son of Rhea he was stronger than any of his siblings, and most of the demi-Olympians. He placed himself directly between the triton and his demi-titans. “Attack, and I let my friend with the harpoon treat you like so much baby-seal. Speak, and we’ll work something out. After all,” this he directed more at his fellows. “There are those who call us and our parents monsters because of what we are.” He focused back on the monster. “We need to know where we are. We are on a quest, and time is of the essence.”
He wasn’t trying to take charge, but he knew they needed answers, and there was only one source for answers they could see. He needed to keep them from destroying the triton. He’d take orders properly again once this single instance was passed. It didn’t help that Jacen and Jesse seemed to be letting their emotions run their actions. Later, they could yell at him and he’d probably be properly abashed, but until then, he just wanted to the information and get them back on track. Track, did they have a track? Did they have a hope or prayer at this point? He silently hoped, ‘Mother, if you’re listening, please help. Please help us.’
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Count: 334 Tag: Demi-Titans Notes: though he's not physicall changing, he should start seeming to the monster and others as if he is powerful and important. Emily tried to wait patiently by the School entrance, but she couldn't help but be a little antsy, when Queen Hera gave you a specific mission, it didn't do to keep her waiting. The goddess wasn't exactly known for her extensive benevolence or patience towards demigods, especially her husband's bastards, but surely Hera would understand that it takes a bit of time to get things together...but then again who knew how the Queen of the Heavens' mind worked.
A slightly flutter of relief danced in Emily's chest as she saw three girls join her, silently thanking Artemis that no boy had attempted to join them. Some of this relief deflated into dread as she recognized Charlie, a fellow daughter of Zeus, she refused to think of her as Emily's sister, only her fellow Huntresses were her real sisters. Despite herself, so was fairly pleased to have someone at least as strong as herself on the quest, especially when she recognized the other two girls as a daughter of Aphrodite and a daughter of Dionysus, not exactly renown for their battle prowess, sure she had seen other daughters of Aphrodite and Dionysus fight with great distinction as Huntresses, but that was the major difference, they were Huntresses, not just run of the mill demigods.
She shook herself out of her thoughts, "A leader does not show what she is thinking. A leader is never indecisive and makes the best of what she has," she thought drawing herself up to her full five foot height.
"Thank you for answering the Queen's summons, you honor her and your parents with your bravery and courage. Our destination is Death's Gateway, known to mortals as Arches National Park. The rock formations there act as natural cracks to the Underworld. I have been there once before with Lady Artemis on a Hunt. It's a strange place full of dangers, but I believe that if we work as a team, we can handle whatever is thrown at us.
"The staff have made arrangements for a bus to meet us here and to take us at least as far as Saint Louis Missouri, after that we'll be on our own. Keep in mind we are under a deadline, the Summer Solstice, if we don't succeed...many of our fellows will be trapped in the Underworld forever." She couldn't help but hate the ominous feeling her words left in her own ears, she was certain they would make it to Saint Louis without difficulty, and with at least enough time to get to the Park, but beyond that she had no way of knowing. Her thoughts were interrupted as an old Greyhound bus pulled in front of the school.
"Alright ladies, all aboard," Emily instructed shouldering her own backpack. She stepped aboard, the sleepy looking driver stared at the four girls vacantly, "Four for Saint Louis," he slurred and went back to staring out the windshield.
Emily settled herself in a someone comfortable seat, crossing her legs and pursing her lips as she set about trying to plan their next move after Saint Louis.
As Lacey listened to her leader, Emily's, words she couldn't help but feel ready; ready to prove herself, ready for whatever laid ahead, ready for adventure. Lacey boarded the bus with the other girls and took an open seat a few rows back from Emily. There had been an underlying coolness to Emily's words as she addressed Lacey and her fellow quest companions, so Lacey decided it best to give Emily some space, especially considering the stress she must be under.
Lacey stared out the window as the countryside passed by, mindlessly messing with her hair, particularly the strands of blue. Being on a quest with a Huntress made Lacey think about what it would be like, being a Huntress of Artemis. She couldn't ever give up what she'd have to to become like Emily, but escaping the ideas of her being dumb and appearance-obsessed would be nice. No, I can't abandon my mom. Mom...if you're listening, please help us through this quest...help us stay safe. she made a silent prayer to Aphrodite and a tear slipped from her left eye and rolled down her cheek. Lacey couldn't imagine dying and not getting the chance to meet her mother, or even hear her voice.
Lacey put the thoughts out of her mind and instead switched to thinking about what dangers might lay ahead and how they'd get past them. With two daughters of Zeus there would be monsters galore. Please Aphrodite. Please. Lacey silently prayed once more, wanting to survive this.
Once again, Lacey pushed those ideas out and looked around the bus, noticing the fact that it smelled like...well like an overused bus. Lacey had been spoiled at Half-Blood Academy, what with being a daughter of Aphrodite she was always surrounded by neat freaks and perfumes that did smell quite pleasant despite her hate of her siblings' focus on appearance. Lacey had always thought of herself as proof that not every child of a god or goddess had the same characteristics as their siblings, though it could've been her father's genes that made her so different. Word Count: 369 Muse: Quite distracted and focused on dangers Tags: Emily, Charlie, Hattie, Team 2 Notes: I think they should run into danger, especially with 2 daughters of Zeus and the fact that this is a quest and what is a quest without a little action?
Hatter nodded to show she was keeping up. She gave a crooked salute at the end and replied, “You got it Meerkat Momma!” as she filed onto the bus. She had suppressed the random urge to hug Emily, only because she seemed stressed and might respond violently. She didn’t want Emily to feel bad for hitting her. Despite the plethora of open and empty seats, Hatter plopped down directly next to Lacy. She pulled out one of her pill bottles and took out a single pill and flipped it into the air and caught it in her mouth like a piece of popcorn. She gave Lacy a bright smile. Something about Lacy, or rather Lacy’s mother, reminded Hatter of her own mother.
“I’m scared,” Hatter reported to Lacy, with a tone and smile that went more with a comment like “this should be fun”. It was difficult for Hatter to convey her true emotions, given that she was unable to wear an expression that wasn’t a smile. She didn’t look directly at Lacy, more she smiled at Lacy’s knees. “Is that normal?” she asked pleasantly. Internally she was deeply concerned about her own sanity and her own fragile grip on reality. She was having one of her rare lucid moments where she could express it, even if she couldn’t show it. “Is it right to be scared at a time like this?”
Her hand reached into her bag and her fingers wrapped around a bottle of vodka she’d packed. She gripped it like a much younger child would grip a blankey. She looked at the reflection in the window beyond Lacy. As her medication kicked in she could see the faint image of her father watching. He was concerned. She offered a silent prayer that if they made it back safe they could have a big party. It was funny. She thought she saw her father shed a tear.
Lacey looked at the girl next to her, "Hatter" was what she'd heard her name was, though Lacey had only ever heard rumors about this girl. "Uh, yeah. It kinda is. It would be unnatural to not be afraid at a time like this. No one knows what could happen." Lacey saw Hatter staring out the window and almost asked what she was looking at, but thought it safer probably not to ask; rumors claimed this girl to be quite unstable. "You're a daughter of Dionysus right?" she asked her, trying to remember if her sanity was from her Godly parent or her mortal parent.
The countryside rolled by, the bus rocking in an almost soothing motion that threatened to make Lacey fall asleep, but Lacey didn't want to go to sleep; she wanted to stay awake just in case something bad happened, she wouldn't be groggy. Her mind drifted to her fighting style, which was quite deadly to her opponents, but beneficial with any blade but the one in her bag. A thought popped into Lacey's mind and she pulled the blade from the bag and attached it, with its holster, to her hip for easy access in case of emergency. Charlie listened to Emily speak, her tone was calm, but if you really looked, you could tell she wasn't. Charlie smiled when one of the girls, Hatter, she thought it was saluted Emily. As stressed as Emily probably was, it probably wasn't the right time to get to know her. So instead, Charlie plopped herself down in the seat next to the one the Hatter girl, and a freshman Charlie didn't know occupied. She slid over to the window and rested her head on it.
As the bus jerked into motion, Charlie closed her eyes. She tried not to be worried, but something inside of her told her to go back now, forget this ever happened. She sighed and thought about something else.
She hadn't said goodbye to Sean, mostly because she hadn't run into him on her way to the bus. Still, Charlie felt bad, She'd send him a Hermes letter latter on. Not that she was eaves dropping or anything, but Charlie heard Hatter admit to being scared, and as weird as that sounded, it calmed Charlie a little.
You're insane Charlie, mentally unstable, if anything someone else being scared should make you even more scared then you started out as.
Charlie rolled her eyes at her inner monologue. shut it She thought.
As the bus rocked, Charlie felt her eyes falling and quickly she sat up. There was no time for sleep on a trip like this. As far as powers go, Charlie wasn't the one to look at but as far as fighting skills went, Charlie liked to think she had it in the bag. She was quick and deadly with a sword or daggers, of course, like everyone she wasn't perfect but she liked to believe she was pretty talented.
Thinking about fighting, Charlie found herself fiddling with her swiss army charm bracelet. It could turn itself into five or six different things including a sword, dagger and even a comb depending on which charm Charlie grabbed hold of. Aimlessly Charlie grabbed onto the dagger charm and flipped it over in her hand. The bracelet morphed into a dagger, Charlie didn't know how the dagger was free from her wrist, but somehow it had managed. She put the base of the dagger to one of her fingers and tried to keep the dagger balanced.
Word count: 389 words (w/o code.) Notes: Charlie's bracelet was a present from her father.
A strange flood of conflicting emotions assaulted Jesse all at once, the strongest being "How does this guy think he is?!, normally Jesse wasn't one to getting into a pissing contest over who's parent was more ancient and powerful, but right now it was the only thing on his mind. Sure, a part of him recognized that this "aura" thing around DD was all for this Triton's benefit, but another much more resentful part of him was ready to deck DD in the face. "A an earth goddess more powerful than the all encompassing river that was Oceanus, give me a break. In a war of earth and water, water always wins in the end. It wears away at the earth until there is nothing left but a new sea bed to bow before it--" It took Jacen's display of protective power, and subsequent vulnerability to snap Jesse out of it. He made to catch Jacen, but saw the boys was just retrieving his weapon "That boy deserves a very sexy reward for being so damned cute," he mused as he made a split second decision to jump into the pool and wade across to where the Triton lay somewhat stunned, his harpoon-spear poised to attack. The water had definitely cleared his head, not to mention the familiar comfort of slipping into his own typically pervy thoughts, he grinned playfully at the rather confused looking Triton. "Strange aren't we, but that's why the ladies and gentlemen find us so sexy. So, tall, green and scaly, care to answer our questions, or do I need to dig out my stash of rum to share a drink with you," sure it came out a bit awkward, and it was entirely possible to creature had no clue what rum was, but the meaning seemed to make its self known. "Noooo dinksy drinks," it hissed, obviously remembering the last time it hopped ashore for a tasty drink, and clearly aware of the weapons pointed at its ugly head. "Thissss issss the desssssert," "No sh*t Sherlock, but which one," Jesse prodded the creature in the back of the head to remind it of the potential pain it could be in. "Theee mortalsss callsss it Moesss-absss," "Moesss-absss?" Jesse asked not quite registering what that would have meant if Mr. Hissy-face didn't have a lisp. "I think he means Moab," one of the others offered. Jesse shrugged slightly, trying not to let his harpoon waiver. "Right so, Moab, ok. How did you end up here?" he asked not wanting to lose control of the situation. The Triton merely shrugged answering, "Wesss wokesss up heresss," "We?" Jesse asked, getting a rather nasty feeling in his gut. Jacen's mouth dropped as the creature spoke. He knew dracenae and even the Gorgons could speak, but he still was shocked to find that this thing could, too. It was large, reptilian, had glowing red eyes, but could speak English.
Had it learned English from a human companion, as friends despite their differences? Or had it learned it through the dying screams of the people it killed? Jacen didn't- and couldn't- know, and that scared him.
Either way, Jacen found it funny and incredibly sexy that Jesse could charm even the ugliest of monsters, even offer it rum.spank me hard, speaking of which, was Jesse bluffing? Where was this stash? He dearly hoped it had not broken in the crash; even the demititans needed some happy juice sometimes.
And then again, if they all got drunk, they could very well be attacked and not even know it.
He took a step forwards into the pool, raising little splash despite his height. Wading smoothly towards the creature, he was careful to purify the water before it touched him, little bubbles rising and bursting from the water.
"Moab, what do you mean by we?" He got no reply. Maybe it was because Jacen had been the one to show violence towards this creature first, or maybe it was because Jesse had been the one to connect with him. Either way, they needed answers.
Jacen looked hard at the triton's solid red eyes, and began to murmur in Ancient Greek. He had learned the language at its source; in Greece, when he'd lived there, and now, he was using his flawless accent to its maximum.
Jesse and Lukas may have understood, but it was entirely possible that they didn't. The Academy taught Greek, but Jacen was speaking quickly, and it was probably a bit unexpected.
"What else is here, Moab?"
