Noah was exhausted, it had taken hours to convince Lewis that it was time for sleep, and it was a good idea to sleep in a bed and not a pot of dirt. It had finally taken Noah allowing Lewis to get into bed with him before Lewis would agree. A soon as Lewis crawled into bed and curled up against Noah and passed out, snoring like a purring kitten. Noah couldn't help but smile as he ran his fingers through the boy's hair. He was strangely content, enough so that he was actually able to sleep.
No sooner did his eyes close than Noah found himself standing in some wide open field, with lots of wild flowers and sunshine...in other words a nightmare. To make things worse he was dressed all in pastel, which about made Noah sick, but Lewis was there in Daisy form, which was the icing on his cake of misery. Completely annoyed he sat down next to Lewis-Daisy sulking.
"I'm sure this is Prissy's doing," Noah pouted talking to the Lewis-Daisy. "Bright f*cking colors, white foofy cloud, you as a daisy again, when I know damn well you're a boy again lying in bed with me."
Noah glared at the cheery spring time scene around him hating every bit of it. No for its own sake, but for what it represented, the constant animosity between the children of Hades and their step-mother.
"You know it wasn't even your fault, or even my f*cking fault that this happened. It was Joelle and her picking fights with Prissy, and now we're both paying the price. You didn't deserve this fate Lewis, not one bit..."
Getting frustrated he ripped off the stupid bright yellow shirt he was being forced to wear and tore it to pieces. It was a futile gesture, but it did give him a mild satisfaction at being able to revolt against Prissy's power, even if the breeze was anything but chilly against his bare skin.
"Bloody hell I can't even manage to throw a proper fit here," he sulked.

Of course it was her doing. Persephone wasn't aiming for subtle when she had thrown this little scene into Noah's mind. She had wanted to make him deeply annoyed and it seemed that it had worked. She watched as he sat down next to the image of Lewis as a daisy, and listened as he talked to it. Noah was saying something about how Lewis did not deserve being turned into a flower and how they couldn't be blamed yadda yadda yadda. Since when did the gods cared over all of that? They just picked and that mortal in question had to do their best with it.
"Stop complaining." It was an order as she materialized behind him. Persephone gestured and vines sprouted out from the earth forming a nice little table and two chairs. Taking a minute to admire her handiwork, Persephone daintily sat on one of the chairs and gestured for Noah to take the other. Looking at him, she realized that he had torn off the shirt she had made him wear. "Noah dear.." Her tone made a mockery out of being motherly. "I don't think it's very polite to rip up your shirt like that. Yellow is such a nice color on you and you should wear it more often." She gestured again, making a swirl of color appear around Noah's torso. The swirls eventually formed a very bright and almost puke worthy tie and dye T-shirt. She wasn't really done though, wriggling her fingers she made a huge smiley face appear on the front of the t-shirt. "If you try to rip this off, I'll make flowers grow in your hair." Persephone said, smiling a smile that didn't reach her eyes at all.
"If you'll take a seat Noah." She clasped her hands in front of her on the table. "I'd like to discuss something with you." Ahead the scudding clouds in the sky got foofy-ier just to irritate Noah. "As you know, I'm not very happy with the way I'm treated by the children of Hades." It was obvious that she wanted to say by the bastards of Hades, Persephone had a dark look in her eyes as she carried on. "And I want it to stop. You will of course make sure that they do not disrespect me." And here an 'or else' might has well have appeared and hung in the air between them, but just to drive her point home Persephone shot a meaningful look at Lewis-daisy. She waited for Noah to accept or make a total ass out of himself.

Persephone's voice grated on him like finger nails on a chalk board. Over the years, he had done his best to make peace, as much as he was able, with his step-mother, but it didn't seem possible this time. He glared daggers at her as the disgusting tie died hippy shirt appeared on him, followed by utterly annoying command to sit. He wasn't some kind of dog that could be dressed up and ordered around on her whim. But it was hard to miss the pointed looks she gave the Lewis-Daisy. If Noah defied her, Lewis would pay the price.
Noah sat down glowering darkly at his step-mother, doing his best to imagine the world around him as the Fields of Punishment, as this was obviously his own personal Hell. He listened reluctantly with a sour look, resisting the urge to grind his teeth.
"Well, my dear sweet step-mother," Noah's voice was so cold he was sure icicles hung from every word. "Respect is earned, not simply given. You want us to treat you with respect, then treat us with a bit of civility. Is it our fault that we were born to your husband while you were away at your mothers? No more than it is your children's fault for being born?" his gaze met Persephone's even colder than his words.
"The fact of the matter is, you broke our deal. I agreed to your terms the last time you tortured Lewis, and met them. You were the one who broke our agreement by using him again. Now, you are more or less ordering me to get my siblings to worship the ground you walk on. Give me a good reason to trust your word. Give me a reason to believe that you would keep your end of the bargain. But first," he paused a cruel smile teasing at his lips. "I want to warn you, that if you use Lewis against me again, all deals will be off, and I will make it my personal mission to make your life and your bastards lives a living hell, just as you've done to me." He knew he went way beyond pushing his luck, but he was done with these games. If she wanted his cooperation, the she had to earn it.
Noah didn't give threats, if he promised to punish someone, he would follow through, even if it meant he had to do it from the Underworld.
"Before I can truly trust you, I need a gesture of good faith. Return Lewis' mind to him, then I may be willing to hear you out. We can either be allies, Mother, or we can be bitter enemies for eternity." He made it clear it was difficult for him to get the word "mother" out, but it was a small gesture that he could be willing to cooperate, should she prove herself trustworthy.

As soon as Noah opened his mouth and uttered his first few words, it became apparent to Persephone that he had chose the second option. She had been half expecting this but even that did not lessen then rage that welled up and boiled over inside her. It had been worse then the tantrum that she had thrown within the confines of the Hades residence, and poor Noah, there was no Thanatos to act as a buffer. Her back became ram rod straight as she listened to the words that came out of Noah and slowly, little by little her face lost that mocking little smirk. By the end of his tirade, Persephone's expression was blank and smooth, her eyes staring straight ahead as if she was looking right through Noah. The vines moved so fast that it seemed as if they came from nowhere and everywhere at once. They were thick, shot through with thorns had only one destination in mind. What sounded eerily like Lewis' voice echoed throughout the dream scene in a scream as the vines tore through it. They shattered the pot, blowing dust all over the table and Noah's shirt as the caught the helpless daisy between them and ripped it to shreds. When it was done there was nothing left of it but a few stray petals. "You presume to strike insolent deals with me?!" Persephone's voice was darker then the far flung corners of the Underworld. She seemed undaunted by the coldness of Noah's tone. It was a little impressive that he had the balls to take that tone with her but Persephone would not have any of it. All around them the grass sharpened to little pointed blades, shimmering in sunshine that was bordering on too hot for any mortal to withstand. "Do you think I will be swayed by your threats?!" Well obviously she wasn't. Noah was the son of Hades and heir to the Underworld but Persephone had been it's queen for a very long time. She'd known a lot of gruesome things and Noah's attempt at being a badass paled a bit when compared to them. There was one thing though which Persephone would have paid more attention to if she weren't so angry and this was the fact that he sounded deadly serious. She should have taken it as a form of warning, though the problem was she was deadly serious as well. "The problem with that argument Noah is that I don't think you've done all you can to keep up your end it." It meaning the initial deal which they had struck at the start of the year. "You let your sister disrespect me and that does not make me very happy at all." Such an indignity to have been set on fire, did they all think they would not suffer any retribution for it? "Lewis simply paid the price of your negligence." Her dark gaze shifted from the remnants of the daisy and then back to Noah again, piercing. "I did not bring you before me today for bargains or to talk about something as absurd as me earning the right to be respected by the lot of you." There would always be friction between her and the children of Hades but Persephone's aim was just to keep it to a minimum. That meant getting set on fire and always picking fights was out of the question. "I bought you here to tell you that your task is to be a living cautionary tale to your siblings and once I see the good work that you will do, Lewis can have his mind back." Seeing that the boy was a Dionysus child, that really wasn't' much to begin with. Word count: 636 Muse: Got lost in the middle. I forgot what deal they struck at the start Tags: Noah

Noah stiffened not from the shards of pottery, mixed with flower petals and dirt flying in his face but from the memory it called back from that dark place he had locked it away long ago. It was his 13th birthday, and once again Noah and his mother were arguing over some trivial thing. Even then Noah had refused to let his anger show as any more than an icy mask, which prompted Angelica Setson to scream, "Do you have to be so much like you damnedable Father?!" but before he had a chance to respond a Black Corinthian Helmet appeared over Noah’s head. Angelica took it as a personal slight that Hades would claim the boy then and there. She picked up the nearest thing, a wilted potted plant and flung it at the hologram floating above Noah's head. Noah willed himself not to duck, not to move, not to show how much it hurt to have his own mother attacking him. The shower of soil around him only seemed to make his resolve stronger, he was his father's son, and he could endure such hatred. "I HAVE NO SON!!! BE GONE WITH YOU DEVIL SPAWN!!!" the voice still echoed in his mind, as he stared down Persephone without the slightest hint that she had struck such a sensitive nerve. "Threat? I don't make threats, mother," He drew the last word out as he spoke both to Persephone and the echo from his past. "I make promises. And I keep them. By the Styx, I keep them," his voice was low and cold, and he could really care less if Persephone heard him or not. He noted impassively as the razor sharp blades of grass tried to push through his boots. "Physical pain? This is nothing compared to the Gates of Death," he thought matching Persephone's marble gaze, letting her vent her spleen on him, and letting it wash over him as though it were nothing more than a gust of air. "A cautionary tale? For whom? Punishing me, or Lewis will have no effect on what my siblings do. Joelle is the eldest, that I am aware of, she is not obligated to listen to me any more than Nico Di Angelo is." He paused steepling his finger together much as his father was want to do, considering his options. He could keep fighting with her, and trying to get her to appreciate his lack of authority over his sister, or he could play her game, but by his rules. "There is another option," He spoke carefully not so much out of deference to the goddess, as steeling himself for an unpleasant proposition. "There is a history of demigods working for other gods and goddesses as champions, mainly those that do not have their own demigod children to do their bidding for them, which of course isn't the case here." he paused letting the implied words sink in before giving them an actual voice. "While you may have demigod children, they don't have, shall we say prestige, oh f*ck it, they don't have the powers that those of the Big Three have. If we can reach an agreement, sworn upon the River Styx this time," he added pointedly "I would be...willing, to offer myself into your service," his throat was dry as a bone as he forced the last statement out. "I will not forsake my father, but I would be willing to act on your behalf, and with your authority...as your champion...and you already know my terms." There he went again calling her mother. Persephone's eyebrows twitched together at the sound of the word and she could not keep the sour look off her face as she studied him. "Don't call me that." She said curtly, making it clear that she did not want to be looked upon as a parental figure by Noah and his siblings. It was not their love that she wanted, it was their respect. The way Persephone saw it, she wasn't the one who had to do anything to earn their acceptance. She was supposed to be doing the accepting and trust her when she said the bastards of Hades took a lot of getting used to. "That's all well and good." She continued, her face just as stony as Noah's, "I wonder how you father will react to you making bad promises toward his wife." Her words were confident but truly she didn't know how Hades would react. Her marriage to Hades was rocky at best, and Persephone suspected that even the Fates would not know who's side he would take. But if Noah could posture then so could she.
Persephone crossed her arms and rolled her eyes skyward as she listened to him talk. The vines which had destroyed the image of Lewis-Daisy danced and swayed around her, almost mirroring the thoughts that were playing in her head. "Quit your whining." She frowned at him again, her mouth turning downward in distaste. "Demigods these days...Did Herakles whine about his labors? Did Perseus?" She sighed a bit, knowing they did but at least not to the faces of the gods. "But then again neither were sons of Hades." There was mockery in her biting words and she started to tap her fingers on the table before saying, "You don't know if they'll listen to you, you've never tried. You claim to have many talents Noah, so put them to good use." He could talk to his siblings, he could cut off their heads, she didn't care about the method all she care about were the results.
"No." That was Persephone's reply when Noah suggested that she make a promise to him on the river Styxx. "The last thing I need to do bind myself to a whiny demigod who doesn't get results." She was alluding to his failed quest again. "It's simply not a good business practice." She moved as if to stand up, picking imaginary lint off the sleeves of her dress. "The only choices there are that you do as I've asked and try or I shall take matters into my own hands and pick off the children of Hades one by one." She smiled as if to show that she knew Hades would not like this one bit but, "I am prepared for the consequences Noah. If there is a change in behavior I'd re thinking on taking this promise, or maybe we can do away with it and I won't turn dear little Lewis into a flower again."
