Likes: ~ fishing ~ sailing ~ swimming ~ horse and Pegasus riding ~ building and working on all kinds of boats, canoes etc. Dislikes: # arrogant people # deserts # indecisive people # cats # rodents
Personality:
DJ is the very essence of the "surfer dude". He prefers to be laid back and relaxed, spending as much time as possible surfing, swimming and sailing as he can. He has a temper as fast and furious as the ocean itself, if he feels that he, his family or those close to him, have been wronged, he'll fight like there is no tomorrow. Fortunately, his stormy bouts are few and far between, most of the time. He is much more inclined to be a lover not a fighter.
He's got a real causal attitude about most everything, and it would be hard to find a prudish bone in his body. He loves to flirt and tease playfully, but knows the boundaries. He absolutely loves to show off his toned body to anyone and everyone, rarely wearing more than a pair of boardshorts and boxers any given time, unless of course he is training in the Arena.
Because he's spent so much time on his own or with just his grandfather, he has become a bit of a social chameleon. He often slip into the mood of the room. For example if the room is a laid back party atmosphere he slips into a very relaxed, witty clown type attitude. If the room is very dark and serious, then he slips into a dark serious mood. He more of less slips into the crowd and doesn't stand out.
When training or preparing for battle, he's all business, he may offer a few dry jokes just to ease the tension enough to keep everyone sharp, but he doesn't go over the top. For the most part his is fairly easy going and patient with others, there are times where the limits of his patience can be tested, but these times are few and far between. History:
17 years ago, just before the start of the 2nd Titan War, Vicky Nelson and her parents David and Agnes decided that for their 50th universality, they would all take a cruise in the Bahamas. Little did they know that it was this cruise which would change their lives forever.
On the midway into their cruise, a Masquerade, this is where young Vicky met a dashingly rugged man, who was dressed as the Sea God himself, in authentic Greek Armor carrying a real Trident. Vicky was immediately smitten with him, and spent the whole evening hanging on his arm, and drinking way too much.
The next morning Vicky awoke with a killer hang over and an extremely fuzzy memory of having been with the man of her dreams. She searched the whole ship trying to find him, only to discover that no one matching her description was registered as having been aboard, and that the only person to have dressed as the Sea God at the masquerade, had been the ship's elderly Captain, not the young man in his mid to late 30s Vicky remembered.
Soon after she and her parents returned from their cruise, Vicky discovered she was pregnant. She couldn't figure out how, since the only man she had been with apparently didn't exist. She carried the child to term giving birth to an extremely healthy baby boy, whom she named after her father. Five years later while on her way to work Vicky was attacked and killed by what was later revealed to be a Chimera.
Following the death of their daughter, David and Aggie raised their grandson, instilling a great respect and reverence for the sea and everything in it. David and D.J. worked together to restore an old 50 foot yacht, they had planned on using to sail around the world in. But just months before D.J.'s 12th birthday, his grandmother, Aggie, contracted a very aggressive form of cancer and passed away before they could start their voyage.
Despite his original hesitation about following through with the trip, David gave in to D.J.'s insistence that it would be what Aggie wanted. So they packed everything up and set sail, arriving in Greece a few months later.
It was during this layover, that David went to pick up supplies, and D.J. went to a local museum to take in the sights. It was there he met his older, and more famous half-brother Percy Jackson. D.J. stumbled upon Percy battling a Chimera in an empty room of the museum. D.J. grabbed a decorative shield from the wall and flung it like a discuss crashing into one of the heads of the beast. Realizing the monster would be after him now, he ducked behind a statue of Poseidon. Percy caught the beast off guard as it searched for D.J., he struck some fine blows, just not enough to kill it. While the beast was focused on Percy, D.J. whispered an apology to the statue and wrenched out the bronze trident from its marble hand, launching himself head long for the beast, driving the three pronged spear deep into its unprotected monstrous flesh. The Chimera disintegrated into dust as D.J. stood holding the trident completely bewildered.
Percy was about to thank him for his help, with a familiar holographic style image over D.J.'s head. Percy threw and arm around his shoulder's saying, "Welcome to the family little brother," and proceeded to explain what had just happened, and advised D.J. to keep the trident as a gift from their father, because one never knew when another hungry monster would come looking for a tasty young demigod. As they walked back to the boat Percy told him about Camp Half-Blood, and Half-Blood Academy, just as David arrived with the supplies overhearing the whole thing. With a heavy heart David advised D.J. to go to the Academy, and that they would be together sailing the seas during the summer if that was what he really wanted.
Following his first summer at camp, he went back to live with his grandfather, who had sailed their boat to Australia, and had turned it into a house boat of sorts. That winter, which was summer in Australia, David taught Jesse how to surf, and from that moment on it became D.J.’s absolute favorite activity, stealing away to catch the next wave whenever he could get away with it.
It was during one of these trips that a rouge wave caught him off guard sending him deep down under the water, so deep that he ran smack dab into Triton and his entourage. At first Triton was furious, but seeing the defiance and sheer physical prowess D.J. displayed, Triton decided that they would have a contest of skill. If Triton were to lose, he would let grant Jesse a gift, if D.J. lost, he could never enter his father’s domain again. Handicaps were arranged, and both armed with their respective Tridents to do battle.
They fought hard, each fairly equally matched with the Handicaps that were put in place, but D.J. didn’t have the inexhaustible strength and endurance his brother Triton had, so in a last ditch effort he attacked wildly feinting one direction than another, then using the butt of his trident, pole vaulted over Triton and held the barbed forks at Triton’s bare back. Conceding that there may be some uses for demigods after all, Triton yielded to contest. He used his own Trident to trans form D.J.’s into what he called, “something more befitting a son of the Sea God,” It was completely reformed out of celestial bronze with the ability to transform into a large silver and black pearl ring, emblazoned with the astrological symbol for Neptune.
Abilities:
* ADHD, which actually is heightened alertness that keeps half-bloods ready and alive for battle.
* Dyslexia, since his brain is hard-wired for reading Ancient Greek instead of modern languages. * Clairvoyant dreams, causing him to watch events in distant locations as an out-of-body experience. This is a general feature of demigods, but becomes even more intense during times of strife and when events are in motion. Has an inherent knack for seeing otherwise hidden things thanks to his unpredictable, changeable nature, inherited from Poseidon.
* Has a knack for using and fighting with a Trident
** Aquatic/hydrokinetic abilities **
* Upon contact with water (especially seawater), Gains a disproportionate amount of strength, combat skill, and speed-but only for a short time unless he is standing or immersed in water. * Can control large volumes of water with great force (hydrokinesis). For example, he can redirect rivers, create currents to push boats or himself, or even increase surface tension to the point where it is firm enough to stand upon. * Can breathe underwater. He is unharmed by water pressure of any amount, or by falling from great height into water. * When underwater, he stays dry unless he consciously forces himself to become wet. When he touches objects underwater, they become dry.
* Can create seawater with no effort with things that used to be in the sea
* Can communicate telepathically with sea animals, most of whom also obey him and treat him with respect.
* Can communicate with equine animals (horses, zebras, pegasi, etc.), as his father created them out of sea foam. They tend to treat him with some deference and work to accommodate him
* While at sea, has perfect bearings on his exact coordinates. (Longitude, Latitude, knots)
* Can telekinetically control all things that are connected with the sea (He has shown to be able to control boats).
* Can sense where objects are underwater.
* Can communicate with children of Poseidon, such as Cyclopes, underwater.
* Is very resistant to burning, and is even able to survive while immersed in magma for a short while because of the "power of the ocean" inside of him.
* Can release the oxygen diffused in water and force the surrounding water to recede, making an air bubble so his friends with non-hydrokinetic abilities can breathe.
* Can harden water (without freezing it) to form shields, and in the movie made a trident of hardened water. It is quite possible that he could use this skill to other purposes, combat or otherwise. * Has a healing factor when standing or immersed in water, which is capable of mending serious wounds and curing him of poisoning. In the film he used this skill to heal other people.
Weaknesses: Remember that your character is part human so weaknesses are necessary. They'll have to balance out your character's strengths. Go ahead. Make it more believable.
Other Information: Has a Trident that he removed from a statue of Poseidon in Greece, which was subsequently enhanced by Triton, his half brother, after defeating him in a contest. The Trident is now made of Celestial Bronze, and takes the form of a silver ring, which has a large black pearl with a Trident engraved in it, when not in use as a weapon. He just twists the pearl to cause the ring to revert into its Trident form.
