Personality: Isolated, and cold. Those words were what were said about Ella, when she used to go to Camp Half Blood to describe her. Tough, emotionless, fierce. The only reason she never objected to these was because they were true. An emotionless face, grown up eyes that seemed to have always been that way, she was the fierce, strong, cold girl of Hermes cabin. Cold, because of how she treated others, outsiders. She showed no sympathy towards them. Fierce, because of the determination she had to both live, and to keep her siblings alive, and strong, for having deal with all the pain that was thrown her way by fate. Isolated? That was something that happened over time, that she should’ve had control over. The reason for all of these traits?
She never learned it was ok to show yourself to strangers. Ella has major people problems because of this. Going into crowded places? It kills her a little, if she can’t steal anything. Gunshots, too. Having lived in a neighborhood where gunshots were a common thing, she’s had a few too many near death experiences because of those things, and even the sound of them on TVs unnerves her. Something else that unnerves Ella is being in places where she is entirely alone. At first they were solitude, but after a while, the being alone… it would remind her of how much alone she already was.
A side that many see of Ella, lately, is her artistic side. It’s how she expresses how she feels to others. Her classroom is covered in graffiti she has done. The chairs, tables, walls, everything, is covered. Most of her art, as of late, isn’t of violence, or anything of the like. More, it’s of things that people don’t think about. Lately, she has tried to improve her social skills, somewhat, and seeks peace more than anything. She would rather be at peace, then at war. Just because when she was younger she could easily match up a son or daughter of Ares, doesn’t mean she’d like to do that now, which is why she chose to become a teacher, somewhat. The Academy needed a teacher, she needed the job and the hiding place, so it all worked out.
History: Jessica O’Brady was a woman of poverty, from a young age, and to her older years. Working as a bagger for a local grocery store, she never expected to meet Hermes. At first, she didn’t know he was a god, as many mortals had before, but slowly learned about it on her own. Both Hermes and Jessica got along, mostly because of how Jessica, no matter what, never treated someone like dirt after a first glance. But, on occasion, problems did arise, due to the fact that Jessica already had a kid, and was living as a single mother due to the fact that her and her son’s father weren’t married. However, one night, something happened… A daughter was born. Hermes explained where the girl was supposed to go, when she was old enough, and with a heavy heart, left.
Ella Gwendolyn O’Brady was raised in an area of Brooklyn that scared most people enough that tourists and many Brooklyn residents were far too scared to even go near. That was what Hermes had left. Jessica did her best to raise both a normal boy, and a demigod girl. Sure, sometimes she had to find creative ways to explain to Ella to not take things from stores, because they wouldn’t know she took it. Now with two children, money was getting harder to come by for the small O’Brady clan. Thankfully, because of Jessica’s way with people, she was able to make sure her kids were safe, at all times. A lot guys who were scary to others, acted as baby sitters. Since they were Jessica’s kids, they were treated with respect.
One day, though, little Ella ran up to her mom, and said that something appeared over her head. She was eleven. Jessica carefully explained what Ella was to her, and that she was going to have to go to a special camp for kids like her. At first, she was weary. A camp for kids like her? What was wrong with her? Why couldn’t Sully come? But, following her mother’s orders, she packed what clothes she had, and a few other personal belongings, and went with her mother onto the subway, and then took a cab to a nearby wooded area outside of the area. This was her stop, Jessica said. With one last hug and kiss goodbye, Jessica sent Ella off to Camp Half Blood.
Life at camp was decent, for Ella, although friends were hard to come across. So, she stuck close to her siblings, well, brothers, mostly. Things were ok with her, although over the years Sully and she would bicker more. He’d often complain that it wasn’t fair that she was part god and he wasn’t. At times she just wanted to scream at him that it wasn’t her fault that she was part god. The bickering was always going on whenever Ella would Iris message Jessica and him, until one day, she couldn’t contact them. Trying to keep calm, she went to Chiron, who was going to talk to her about what happened.
The apartment building Ella had spent the first eleven years of her life at had gone up in flames. Sully hadn’t been there when it happened, but Jessica… Jessica didn’t make it out. For days, after hearing this news, she kept to herself, occasionally snapping at a fellow camper, or even a sibling. Finally, one of her brother’s got the guts to ask her what was wrong with her, to which, she couldn’t help it, she snapped. Her mother, the one person who was her support, was dead. Defeated, she had cried. Not a simple, silent cry, but violent sobbing. It was the first time Ella had ever cried so hard. It took a few of her siblings some time trying to help her, until finally, they gave up. After that, slowly, she began to isolate herself.
She was sixteen when that happened.
One of her brothers, a rather rich guy, said that she ought to try and get into a school for her artwork. Graffiti had always been a big part of her life, and Ella had never thought of going to school for art. Ella denied going to school ever since camp, since she figured it would cost too much. But, after much persuasion, and the winning of an art scholarship, she agreed. Now, she’d have to go to school, but it’d be back to camp in the summer. This continued until finally, she graduated. Now, what was to happen to the demigod? She was too old; it felt like, to stay at camp. College was out of the question, Ella was done going to school, so came the other options.
So, bank robbing became the next option. Going professional with stealing, she did plenty of heists for people, and plenty of getting money for herself. Thanks to being a child of Hermes, she was never caught. But, one day, when she herself wasn’t robbing a bank, someone else was. She was inside the bank. Ella finally saw what it was like to be scared during a bank robbery, what it was like to be a victim. Somehow, she was going to have to find a way to lie low, stay out of the way.
Then came the job offer from Half Blood Academy. They needed an art teacher, and she was capable of the job. So, Ella took it.
Abilities: can’t get caught by police, fast on her feet, excellent thief, great memory for carrying messages, uncanny sense of direction
Weaknesses: From a very young age, Ella has always had people problems. Having grown up in a place that not many people would want to grow up, nor was the best place to grow up, she tends to have problems talking to people, and generally, relating to them. If someone came to her crying over something, she generally won’t know what to do. Most of the time, she speaks through artwork. Another weakness she has is family. They’re the only people she has, and she’d rather never lose them, even so much as to going to hurt someone if they hurt her family. Emotions, though, may just be her biggest weakness, though. Ella doesn’t really know how to show them. She’s been working on it, trying to smile more, but otherwise, she just can’t do it. The only time she has ever shown any real, no way of hiding emotions, was when her mother died. Otherwise, she just bottles it up, and acts like there’s nothing wrong with her. She’s bottled up her emotions so much she’s an isolated person.
Other Information: She’s Ella effing O’Brady. No further comments. Except that I made her weaknesses very long. Sorry ‘bout that.
