Personality: The thing about Edith is that she is a hunting falcon personified. Her sisters, especially those who have known her during her first few months as a Huntress of Artemis, will often joke that Edith has spent so much time with the falcons that they have taught her to act like one of them instead.
Joking aside though, Edith does share many traits with her most favorite animal. She is curious about the world around her and doesn’t fit into the mould of a bored and unimpressed, somewhat immortal girl. The advances of mortal technology are a marvel to Edith and she can often be seen reading books about mechanics. This is a habit that has gotten her teased by the more practical and traditional Huntresses but she really can’t help herself. Edith is curious about people as well, behaviors and mannerisms have changed vastly since her time as a mortal and Edith loves to quietly people watch.
However, don’t mistake her to be a quiet bookworm. Edith is generally calm but can be temperamental if something sets her off. Her upbringing as a privileged socialite has taught Edith how to be haughty and dismissive and these attitudes have only grown during her time with the Huntresses. Usually it is males that bear the burnt of it. When she is not making a mockery out of boys, Edith has been known to flirt with them. She knows that this is also flirting with disaster but she cannot help but tempt silly boys and lead them on. As someone used to say to her, “For rejection to mean anything, one must be wanted in the first place.” Edith believes in this saying and doesn’t see the harm in toying with those silly boys from time to time. To her friends and her sisters, Edith is fiercely loyal. She is a good person to have your back in a fight as she will go through any lengths to protect her friends.
History: Edith Celeste was born in New York in the late eighteen hundreds. She was also lucky enough to be born into rather well known Vanderbilt clan and had a silver spoon in her mouth from day one. However, that was where Edith’s luck ended. She was a daughter and in every second of her life thereafter she would be groomed into becoming a perfect debutant. In other words, she would be caged and protected from the world at large. As a girl Edith wouldn’t notice the bars of this cage, though as she grew she noticed the differences in which she and her older brother Alexander were treated. In her opinion, Alexander had all the fun tutors, those who would show him huge colorful maps and teach him about far off places, Edith would be stuck learning the proper way to walk. While Alexander was taught how to handle their family’s boat, Edith was taught stuck at home, learning how to be the perfect hostess.
Growing up, she soon became bored of her station in life but had no courage to speak up. This went on for several years, and Edith’s life as full of parties where she was put on display for everyone to see. Her mother had ambitions of marrying her off to some rich bachelor who would add to their family’s own wealth. At one ball, she caught the eye of Sebastian Whitehall, but unfortunately he was old enough to be her father. Edith was repulsed by him, but the engagement and wedding plans were done over her head. No one would even pay attention to her objections and even her own father went so far as to lock her in her own room when she expressed her distaste for Sebastian Whitehall. Trapped in her room, it was only then that Edith realized the bars of her cage were closing in on her.
However, with the help of her loyal ladies’ maid, Edith managed to escape her house. Out in the wilds of New York, she soon came to realize just how sheltered she was. Edith had been foolish not to pack or bring any money and she was stranded on the streets with no where to go. Knowing that her family would find her eventually, Edith snuck into a small church, hiding there for the night. During her stay, she prayed for some kind of deliverance and was shocked when Artemis answered. Though the goddess of the Hunt was not what Edith had expected to answer her prayer, she begged Artemis to take her away from New York. Seeing the potential in Edith, Artemis offered her a place with her Huntresses. Edith has been with them ever since though currently she is stuck at Half Blood Academy with some of her other sisters.
