Lets Get More Personal
Likes: Spacing Out, surprising people, reading, listening to foreign music in his spare time, has a secret love for photography, tennis, working with his hands – fixing things, is pretty technology inclined
Dislikes: judging people based on first impression – he’s a think of how they are on first impression, then judge them by the third impression, being bothered for trivial things, he doesn’t like it when people he knows cries, he doesn’t like it when people cry on him, and he’s not very touchy feely so he’s not big on public displays of affection, when things are rather disorganized, he hates birds and he’s afraid of geese (which is kind of amusing)
Personality: Ven is an oddball. For the son of Deimos, people kind of expect him to take pride and have fun with inflicting fear, terror, dread and sometimes panic in people but surpassingly he doesn’t, at least not intentionally. He’s a pretty easy going guy. And he’s a bit of a dork. He has his stupid moments, generally when it comes to all things involving fire and sometimes plants, he has tripped over a tiny little tree root once. But Stupid moments aside, Ven is kind of a space cadet. He’ll space out and not pay attention to anything so he gives off an aloof sort of feel but he’s really not paying attention.
Ventus generally needs to be spacing out for at least two hours a day or else he doesn’t actually function correctly. A friend at the academy has actually made him not space out for a day and Ventus ended up amplifying fears and generally being a moody little dork and a very clumsy one too. They’ve learned that he needs his daily dose of spacing and zoning out to keep him happy. Because of his space habits, he’s gotten into quite a bit of trouble too, sometimes direction but most of the time indirectly and sometimes because he stares when he’s spacing out, Ven’s gotten into some fights with the Ares and Mars, now that there are Romans in the Academy, children. He tends to get away pretty well, using fear and confusion to his advantage and putting them against each other.
Ven generally is a pretty easygoing guy, as long as he has his min of two hours of spacing as mentioned and he’s pretty accommodating. His easy-going-nes aside, he’s surprisingly easily confused and sometimes he even easily angered. But generally, he’s just pretty confused. It’s probably because he’s always in and out of situations. In fights though, he’s surprisingly alert and he’s so alert sometimes that it scares people, especially if the fight lasts longer than he’d expect.
He’s an interesting kid, given that his father is the God of Fear, he can manipulate and inflict fear himself, and he spaces out. It’s a wonder he didn’t grow up messed up. (His uncle likes to joke that he’s isn’t quite right in the head)
History: Sometime in late February and early March one year, found British-Korean Aurora Sohn, who had been vacationing in New York running into, quite literally, Deimos while he was escaping godly duties (that and he was really bored). The initial collision actually startled Deimos, it was about early evening and the streets were pretty empty at the time, and he had unintentionally struck fear into this young woman’s heart. Before he could even fix or reel his powers back in, she fled, terrified and Deimos stood kind of like an idiot in the middle of the streets of New York. It probably doesn’t help that she ends up running into one of the shadier parts of New York. Now, normally, Deimos probably would have just let the person run off I’m sure but causing her unintentional fear, had him following after her.
Now, following a human isn’t hard, he is a Grecian GOD after all and he manages to pull back some of his powers by the time he finds her. They end up in a pretty damn shady part of town and Aurora is kind of leaning against a wall to catch her breath and Deimos is trying to decide if he’s amused or not as he’s watching her. Then things get a little more complicated, Deimos notices that she’s kind of scared again but he knows that he’s got nothing to do with it and he turns only to get clocked in the face with something heavy (even now, we’re pretty sure that he doesn’t know what it was) and it stuns him. Go Figure, shady part of town, gangs or robbers. It wasn’t new.
Somewhere in between trying to feel his nose again and trying to get away, Deimos and Aurora are pretty much side by side and Aurora is kind of apprehensive but it’s not like she had anyone else to trust. It doesn’t last long, Deimos being a god and all and he and Aurora walk out and back into main the main city pretty much unscathed, unless you count Deimos’s red nose. Aurora is caught between wanting to run again because first off, Deimos isn’t a small man and he had caused fear the moment she bumped into him on accident and second, the red nose only makes it worse. But she doesn’t because he kind of just saved her. They exchange some information, “I’m Aurora, thanks by the way;” “Deimos, yes like the Grecian God and no problem.”
He doesn’t say much else and just opts to walk her to her hotel and then leaves. Despite her initial fear of him, Aurora is pretty intrigued by this man and she find herself actually looking for him during her stay in New York. That’s their first meeting and Aurora sees him around town every now and then during her stay and she’s a little disappointed when she sees him with a pretty woman a couple of those times (a sister goddess but Aurora doesn’t know that). Then on her last night, Deimos just kind of shows up unexpectedly at her door. Aurora is surprised and even a little flustered because well, Deimos is like all gods when they trek to the mortal realm, gorgeous and alluring. She’s kind of awkward and really, he’s a little awkward but a light conversation just has one thing leading to another and when she boards the plane the next day, heading back home, she’s very content and 9 months later, in early December, Ventus Izyel Sohn makes his appearance to the world.
Her brother and parents had been initially displeased that she had a child out of wedlock and was planning on keeping it but as time went on and especially after Ventus’s birth, they accepted it. Ventus was a good child growing up, a little too quiet sometimes but it was alright. They were a little worried especially when the realized when he was 5 that he had the habit of spacing out at the randomest of moments. They thought that that would bring him into some sort of trouble, especially if he was on the way to school or something but luckily, nothing really bad actually happened. A few scraped knees and maybe a few bleeding fingers from scratches but nothing ever really bad. Then, just before his 13th birthday, Ventus happened to run into the local gang. He wasn’t terrified persay, but he was a little bit unnerved. Ventus, in his little 13 year-old prepubescent glory ends up in a street fight.
He realizes vaguely that as he’s fighting, which consisted of sloppy hand-to-hand combat and odd reflexes that he’s never known he’s had, the local gang seems to be pretty terrified. At first he figured it was because he was holding his own and all. It wasn’t. And one of the bigger members tries to launch a pretty powerful attack or something pretty damaging and then it’s as if someone turned off the lights and there’s a strange chill over the alley. Some people mention being terrified out of their wits but for Ven, it’s just comfortable and he’s staring curiously at the man that just walks into the alley. There’s no words exchanged just a, “Ventus will be coming with me,” and Ventus is walking home with this strange man.
On the way home, Ventus is just told, “You’re my son and I’m claiming you.” And he ends up pretty damn confused as he’s walking up the steps. Aurora is pretty frantic at the door but it doesn’t bother him and she actually blushes when she sees the man and Ventus learns that he’s named Deimos from her. Also, that same day, he learns that he’s a demi-god, the son of the god of Fear, who as it was, was there to claim him. They also tell him of a place for Demis like him and while her family is slightly hesitant with having Ventus go with this strange man, Aurora doesn’t mind and lets Ventus go, as long as he came home for breaks.
Ventus has been at the academy for almost 7 years now, a little short of 7 years give or take a few months he supposed. He’s the odd kid who scares the sh*t out of people without trying and he’s also the kid who’s sitting out in the rain in a daze even when Zeus is striking lighting and thunder. He’s okay with being different. What he doesn’t get though is that he’s a Grecian Demi-god. His first name is in Latin.
Abilities: Fear Amplification – self explanatory.
Fear Manipulation – self explanatory, but he can also make people afraid of things they normally aren’t afraid of.
Immunity to Being Afraid or terrorized – that what his father tells him but really, Ven just thinks he’s got a high tolerance to things and not a lot can scare him.
Faster Healing – it doesn’t work a lot of the time because he needs to be around a source of fear or dread so in times of peace, he takes a long time to recover, well long for a demi-god and it’s generally about the pace of a regular human being. If he’s around people who’ve lost something important, generally lives, he’ll heal faster too.
Inflict Fear – not a skill he uses a lot but he can and will inflict fear and the like into someone. Ven uses it when he’s severely backed up into a corner.
Weaknesses: Geese – Ventus doesn’t remember how but he’s actually pretty terrified of geese, which is saying something given that he’s the son of Fear. It amuses his father though.
Not being given time to space out – Ven’s an odd ball like I’ve said earlier and really, if he doesn’t space out, not counting in battles which are actually the one place where he’s alert, he gets pretty clumsy and his powers go awry.
Other Information: He will say “puri” sometimes and it ends up in conversations although a lot of the time it tends to come out when he comes out from spacing. He’s got a pet cat that he’s named Momo and he likes to use a scythe as his main weapon. Ven can use a sword, but not often. If he can’t use his scythe, he’s probably just going to bash faces in with his hands and metal plated leather gloves.
