Personality: The thing about Shay is that she is not a nice person. When those who know her say that she is not ‘easy to get along with’ they’re probably saying so in the most polite of terms. Her enemies, and there are a lot of them, would just call Shay a ‘conceited, rude b*tch.’ and they would not be wrong in saying so either.
Perhaps the problem lies in the fact that Shay is an extremely driven young woman. She wants to be the best in everything that she does and will not tolerate anything that stands in her way. She wants to be known for her talents as well, and most of the time she comes off as a spotlight hog with an obnoxious ‘me me me me!’ attitude. She can be extremely judgmental as well, stemming from the fact that she makes no secret that she wants to be surrounded by only the best. Why would she want to hang around someone beneath her anyway? As the saying goes, if you hang around garbage men sooner or later the stink will rub off on you as well.
However, Shay’s attitude does have a little bit of an upside. She pushes those she is friends with to be better as well. While her intentions are more selfish then selfless, at least she gives them the encouragement they need to improve. Unfortunately most of her contemporaries do not take very well to this leaving Shay with only a handful of people she can actually call friends. Even though she does not show it, it bothers Shay that she does not have a lot of friends. However she has an arrogant streak a mile wide and often convinces herself that she is in the right and those people she does not get along with just aren’t worth it.
To those who are patient and long suffering enough to stick by her however, there is never a dull moment around Shay. She likes to challenge people intellectually and oftentimes physically as well and will always find something quirky and totally off the bat to do.
History: Shay always cringes inwardly whenever she thinks of the movie Knocked Up and this is because its storyline is similar to how her own parents met. In his youth, George du Rone could only be termed as a geek. He often had his head buried in science fiction books and tabletop role-playing games and such things followed him into adulthood. To be mean about it, he had no social life whatsoever but this changed one night when George let one of his friends talk him into going to a local, but very popular night spot. There he got very, very drunk and stumbled across Athena.
Now George had never had any luck with women. He was always too awkward and uptight around them to make any sort of lasting or good impression. But with his belly full of drink and his head all fuzzy, he found the courage to strike up a conversation with Athena. Unfortunately for George, he started to brag about all the campaigns he had won during his many years of role-playing. He made himself sound like a great and noble warrior but Athena of course saw right through him. She only gave him the time of the day because George was a dopey drunk and even when he was intoxicated he seemed to know about ancient Greek warfare and that endeared him to the goddess. They shared a one night stand though afterwards George woke up alone. Nursing a very bad hangover, he decided that everything was just a weird dream.
However, George did not entirely forget about Athena. After he got over his hangover he seemed inspired to write and based the heroine of his new novel on what he could remember of the goddess. The novel took off though fame was not the only surprise that fate had in store for him. Nine months later, he found himself in possession of one golden cradle, one baby girl and a note from Athena saying that she was very amused that he remembered enough to write about her. He had her blessings, and perhaps that’s the reason why his novels did so well.
To help with the baby, George enlisted the help of his sister Natalie. However, Shay proved to be a difficult child and as she grew, she could never seem to get on well with her cousins. She was more of a loner and when she was not busy not fitting in or not causing trouble for her cousins, Shay was always pushing her father to enroll her in extra curricular classes. The girl hated not having anything to do with her time and was not one of those children who would sit in front of the television watching cartoons all day long. To appease his daughter, George put her into gymnastics and music classes. Shay excelled in both, proving very light on her feet and competent with the flute, which soon became her musical instrument of choice.
It was in one of those musical classes that Shay was discovered by a satyr. They became uneasy friends, and though Shay was always suspicious her satyr friend managed to keep an eye on her and keep her out of harm’s way. She was claimed on her twelfth birthday, and George happily sent her off to Half Blood Academy. Shay herself was very surprised at this development though she was gratified to learn that she really was different and special then most people. Shay has been back to Half Blood Academy for every summer since then, and though she is not particularly well liked by some of the other students, she strives to bring glory to Athena House.
Abilities: As a child of Athena, Shay has a natural intelligence and leans towards being inquisitive. She is always bursting with questions and when this is coupled with her talent to get right to the heart of the matter, her questions can prove to be very, very uncomfortable. A natural strategist, Shay has the ability to look at a situation and manipulate it or plan out a way for things to come out in her favor. She has a connection to owls, which are her mother's sacred animal. Weaknesses: Being half mortal, Shay can sometimes been too influenced by her emotions. Anger and pride, she has a lot of the latter, will get in the way of her making sound decisions. Sometimes she wastes her time by asking too many questions and cannot stand anyone dodging any of her questions no matter how trivial they are. Stubborn to a fault she will take it upon herself to dig out the answers and this could only prove to be a waste of time if said question is, 'What is your favorite color.' Even with her slight connection to owls not all of them like Shay and listen to her when she asks them to do something. Other Information: Since Shay fights best with daggers in her hands, Athena has gifted her with a set of twin celestial bronze ones. To make them easy to carry around on Academy grounds and in the mortal world, said daggers transform into a black and gold headband. Aside from being made of celestial bronze the weapon glows blue (but only when they're in dagger form) when someone Shay considers an enemy is around.
