It was rare that the whole of the staff and student body were together for dinner like this, but Pontos felt it was necessary as he had some announcements that needed to be heard by all.
"Staff and students, if I may have you attention for just a few moments. Thank you," The ancient sea god began bringing the Pavilion into a respectful silence. "First I would like to say well done to all of you on your recent exams, this is the first school year where exams have gone so smoothly. As a treat, we will be having a campus wide social this evening here in the Pavilion." He offered the students a grandfatherly smile as he studied the crowd noting that not everyone was all that pleased by the announcement.
"Allow me to clarify. The social will be a masquerade...a costume party, where curfew is lifted and students will be permitted free reign over the campus. However, as a safety precaution, the campus boundaries will be closed, meaning no one in or out of the campus grounds from sun down today to sun rise tomorrow.
"Lord Hermes, was kind enough to provide enough costumes for every student on campus this evening," Pontos stood and with a wave of the hand, hundreds of wracks of costumes appeared scattered about the Pavilion. "Please remember there are more than enough costumes for everyone, and there is no need to fight or squabble over them. In fact I have it on good authority that these are no ordinary costumes, they all have a little extra...what did he call it," Pontos frowned as he tried to recall the conversation with Hermes earlier that afternoon.
"Ah yes, he said they all have a little 'extra Halloween magic' whatever that may mean." He explained almost dismissively at the foreign concept of "Halloween Magic" not really caring to know what it entailed.
"The second announcement for the evening, in relation to the first, is that the whole staff, with the exception of our dear Chief of Security, will be away from the sun down to sun rise. Dionysus, who you may know as Mr. D, the camp Director of Camp Half-Blood, has invited the staff to a special gathering on Mount Olympus to honor the successful we just had, that includes all Titan, Monster and Mythological staff members, again with the exception of Bob the Titan, out of safety and security concerns for the Campus."
Pontos couldn't help but smile as the Titan formerly know as Iapetos, preening like a peaturtle as the "honor" of being left in charge of a the whole school, by himself.
"Now, we have left instructions for Bob here, that his sole job tonight is to ensure that the campus remains closed and that no one gets hurt too badly or killed. Aside from that there will be no detentions or other punishments for rule breaking, but I must stress that it is for this one night only please do not get in the habit of flaunting the rules, or you will never see such a generous gift of freedom like this again." Pontos looked to the west seeing the sun slowing creeping towards the horrizon.
"You have one hour before the festivities may begin, so please collect your costumes and make any last minute preparations you need for your parties and so forth. Bob will ring the campus bell when the sun has set, and you all will be free to do as you please. Staff, if you will join me in the staff room, we'll get the pre-party celebrations underway," A wolfish grin creased the ancient deity's bewhiskered face as he vanished with sound of crashing waves.
Word Count: 627 Muse: All business Notes: Ok folks, this is our next site wide plot, the students will have complete control over the academy, they just can't leave and they can't bring any one in. There is something special about the costumes they have been given, but that too won't be revealed until after the sun has set. Hopefully, everyone will be able to join in and have a little wild and crazy fun.

As Krysta ate her food, she heard Pontos get up and wanting their attention, she put down her fork and listened to the sea god. That was one thing that she was taught to do, was to sit and pay attention to the elders, immortal or not. She heard him say that they were going to have a masquerade party, she never dressed up as one, but she was one to love that sort of era to where they were popular. She loved the whole incognito style of how everyone dressed, the big dresses, beautiful masks, and just everything. Krysta liked how it was one whole day of free reign of the camp, she could talk to people she hasn’t met, and just have fun till then.
Krysta smirked to herself when Pontos said that Hermes put some magic into the costumes, she didn’t know what it was, but she did know her magic, of course that was her mother was known for during the ages. It made it more exciting that he didn’t say what it was and that they had to wait, she loved surprises and not knowing. The demi-god also smiled when she heard that Mr. D was going to be gone and Bob would stay in charge while the rest go to Olympus, she didn’t now Bob very well so she didn’t know how to take that news. It was just a night to smile it seemed like to her, she ate some of her food as he kept talking, it was good that they all had enough costumes for everyone, she didn’t care what she got though.
Once he was done with his speech, Krysta finished what she was eating and walked over towards the rest of the girls that were gathered around the different dresses and masks, as she looked, nothing caught her eye until she found the perfect dress. The dress was all black and it had rhinestones laced at the bust and the waist, then spread out on the dress, it looked like little fireflies flying all over her dress. She then found a mask that fitted perfectly with the dress, it was black, had black feathers coming off the side, and it was fitted around the eyes and upper nose, and it had little sparkles all around. She grabbed them both and sat back at her table and looked around to see what other people had picked as their costumes.

A costume party? Was he serious? Sometimes they ideas that popped into those divine heads made no sense at all, but then again a party was a party. And that usually meant there were some sexy beasts to woo, not that was a fun idea. DJ looked over the wracks of costumes not really seeing anything of interest until he came across a simple white toga with sea green stitching along the edges. "Hmm, maybe I'll go as Poseidon, I'm sure dad wont mind, hell I've already got the trident..." DJ though as he fidgeted with the black pear ring on his right hand. He ran his hands over the soft linen material, almost in a trace. Pontos was right, there was something about these costumes, something...different, but he couldn't put his finger on what it was exactly. He took the toga off the wrack heading back to his room to change, it was still really early, but there was that something about the costume that just seemed to call to him and beg him to put it on as early as possible. He quickly stripped down, not bothering to close the House door, pulling on the toga, somehow knowing exactly how it was worn, he twisted his ring and it sprang to life as his celestial bronze trident and gave himself a once over in the mirror. It wasn't exactly a toga per sey, but the Greek equivalent, a chiton , for some reason it was in the long style that was preferred by older men, but non the less DJ couldn't help but think "Damn this just looks and feels...right, it's like I can feel the sea all around me, I can even smell the sea breeze...but something's missing..."DJ looked around his room, finding one of Ariel's sea shell necklaces, he picked it up, and tied it on the top of his head like a crown, it looked a little goofy, but it seemed to complete the getup. Satisfied he strode back to the Pavilion, his head held high with the bearing of a god, taking his seat at the head of the Poseidon table. He held his trident easy in his right hand, watching over the crowds of students as they too returned from changing into their costumes. The sun began to dip over the western horizon and Pontos called out from his place on the dais. "I do hope you all enjoy you night of freedom. Please don't forget, it ends at sun rise." He thumped his Oar against the dais, he and all of the staff vanished in a blaze of light. As the lights faded, a strange new sensation came over him. He was in his father's palace under the sea, on Mount Olympus welcoming Pontos and the other gods to the festivities, he was out riding horse back on the wind swept plains, fishing along the California coast, bedding a beautiful woman he had just met...he wasn't DJ Nelson any more, he was an aspect of Poseidon himself! The magic in the costume must have done it, it was the only explanation. All these demigods, demititans, half-monsters and the gods know what else, dressed in costumes, becoming who they were masquerading as...and one simple minded Titan to ride herd on them all...this was going to be a night to remember, that much was sure. Word Count: 586 Muse: all high and mighty Notes: Ok people that's what's going on. The power in the costumes you wear, turn you into the character you're portraying, plus the students have free reign over the Academy...should be fun So as of now you can open a new thread, as your masquerade character anywhere in the Academy, just remember to put "ONO" (one night only) as part of the thread title so it doesn't interfere with regular threads already going on. Have fun be silly, be powerful, just remember you can not leave the Academy, no matter who your character is, and this magic will only last one night. After that the costumes go back to being regular old costumes. Any questions PM Pontos

Alexiel was sitting near the front of the room and she listened as Pontos spoke, she was writing in an old journal but stopped dead when she heard the whole staff, with the exception of our dear Chief of Security, will be away from the sun down to sun rise. She stopped and set her pen down, Was he insane? No staff, give the students free-reign over the school She looked at Pontos with awe at this statement, this had never been done before. Her stomach twisted into a knot and she rested her head in the palm of her hand. She had a dream about this last night, but it made no sense to her at the time. She'd seen her classmates, but they were different. Their costumes were controling them, or that's what it looked like. She'd seen DJ become Posiedon. Alex shook her head and cast another glace at Pontos but even though she deeply wanted to speak to him she remained seated and took a deep breath. She looked at DJ then at a few other students as they excitedly grabbed costumes from the rack. She looked over the racks and thought about what might fit her best. She then spotted a small dress, plain yet beautiful. She stood up and walked over, setting a hand on the fabric and smiled, "This should work." she muttered to herself and pulled it off the rack. A small silver-black mask fell to the ground. She picked it up. Alexiel looked it over slowly and sighed, she wasn't a huge fan of Halloween and now she liked it even less since there would only be Bob on campus. She didn't dislike Bob, but considering the ratio of kids to staff, he'd be vastly outnumbered should things go wrong. Alexiel slipped into a side room and locked the door before smoothly changing into her new outfit. She didn't rather feel much different, just more flirty than usual. She put the mask in place and shivered, the ruby looking amulet hung exposed around her neck but it complimented the outfit nicely so she left it. She set her clothes in a drawr and returned to the hall. She looked around, and relaxed, this couldn't be the worse night ever, could it? Then she realized the difference, she felt weak, almost... mortal. She gasped when she realized that's what the dress had done. For tonight, one night. She was mortal, no powers. She could touch someone and not see the horrors of their future. She smiled, tonight wouldn't be so bad after all.Word Count: 450 Muse: average Notes: Alexiel's Dress Alexiel's Mask

This new power brought on by the costume was invigorating, and unnerving at the same time. There was that little bit of himself that was still just DJ Nelson, son of Poseidon, sailor, horsemen, shameless flirt, but there there were these other pieces all separate yet unmistakably linked. The DJ part of him kept bouncing back and forth between excitement and sheer terror. If he was away of all of the aspects that made up his father, no doubt the link went the other way as well. Poseidon would know that his son was a part of himself, at least until this night was over.
He leaned back in his seat at the Poseidon table, a rare moment where DJ had a small measure of control over his actions. "I have the unique opportunity here, I can learn everything I want to know about dad without even trying," A small smile creased his face as he allowed himself to be submerged back into the Poseidon persona.
images, memories of all the old stories came flooding into his mind as he tapping into the scattered aspects of himself, the First Titan War, courting Amphrodite, the birth of his son and heir Triton, bedding Medusa in the Temple of Athena, the building of the Walls of Troy...a name...Aeneas...
DJ sat bolt upright in his seat, his half mortal mind briefly overwhelmed by the unexpected revelation, there was more to the gods than even their children knew. This was something unexpected, but highly vital...
"I know what it is that you see would-be-Poseidon. Worry not upon this insight, the time is not yet right. Take this book, keep it safe, when the time comes you will know what to do," came a strange and eerie seemingly from everywhere, even inside his head, DJ squeezed his eyes shut trying to stop the pain from it all. The sound faded revealing nothing more than the party going on around him, gingerly opening his eyes revealing a large leather bound volume on the table in front of his with gold leaf lettering bearing the titles of, Aeneid and Virgil. Without a second thought he picked up the book and stashed it safely under his seat.
He was quite shaken for a few moments before his mind and senses were once again flooded by the power of the sea god...all those women...and men, falling for the charms that permeated Poseidon's being. The little fading bit that was DJ couldn't help but whisper, "Good on you dad," a flirtatious grin etched itself across DJ/Poseidon's face as he stood filled with a new vigor and purpose. He was going to get laid tonight, he didn't particularly care by who, but he'd show them a time they'd never forget, that much was for sure.
"Maybe that cute Medusa boy, what was his name? Ashley! Maybe he'll be up for some fun, I know his mother always is. Or that very maybe one of those Siren girls, I'm sure they know how to rock the place..." his mind continued to list potential partners as he sea green eye glowed brightly scoping out the scene searching for the next lucky person to receive the combined pleasures of Poseidon and DJ Nelson.

For a moment, Jacob Rinzler believed the headmaster had finally gone crazy.
A halloween party? Brief free-roaming of the whole camp? Magic? Oh, yeah, Rinzler thought. We're gonna have fun tonight! And best of all, Bob was in charge! That guy was awesome! He ran off to get his costume he used on April Fools Day, snickering like a hyena. He passed a Posiden guy along the way- D.J something or other- and briefly nodded to him before continuing his sprint to the Hermes Wing.
********
Jake came back wearing a costume that seemed to be a cross between a porcupine and a warthog. He donned the red cloak he needed to finish the getup, and walked off to get some soda. He clicked his two Freddy Kreuger claws excitedly. Rinzler made a few freakish growling sounds to add to his creepiness factor.
Jake walked over and picked up a soda that had popped into exsistence somehow. He took off his mask and sipped the Coca Cola in his claws. It actually tasted pretty good. He took a second guzzle, swallowed, and grimaced. Still fizzy. he mused. Maybe I can use that to my advantage.
Rinzler wondered what would happen if he put in some Pop Rocks. A devilish grin formed on his face at the thought. "Tempting...but no." he muttered to himself. "Maybe later."
Besides, his dad had planned something special. Rinzler wondered if it would be a good idea to help out dear old dad a bit. Jake started brainstorming some ideas.
Unleash his loyal army of frogs and toads? "Too obvious." he whispered to himself. "They'll definitely know it was me." Use his idea with the Pop Rocks? "Maybe. There's a 50% chance that'll work." he whispered again. Activate Plan C? Rinzler thought a moment before grinning twistedly.
"Oh, yeah!"

It wasn't that he hadn't enjoyed the party on Mount Olympus, in fact it had been as epic as always, just the kind of thing to keep deities occupied and enjoying themselves for a time. But Pontos couldn't help but worry about the Academy in the back of his mind. Sure Bob was there to keep things from going too far out of control, but really how reliable was Bob these days. Well, he was better than he was before he had his mind wiped clean, but still he was simple minded and child like in many ways, with all of the awesome power of a titan...Pontos shuddered a little at the thought of the kind of destruction that was most likely waiting for him back at the Academy.
"I am stirring my love, we will soon be together again..." that voice in his head, Pontos had lost track of how many centuries it had been since he had heard that beautiful voice...she who had been his lover so often in the early days of this world...but if she was stirring again, that would mean trouble for the Olympians. "Curses, my dearest is stirring, and I can do nothing to help her awaken...I am bound by my oath on the River Styx to protect and defend my charges at the Academy...if she awakens," he shuddered again at the thought of the destruction and carnage that was due to consume this world once again. "I will not act against her, I cannot. Even Zeus cannot force me to do so, but I will not break my oath..." Pontos' featured darkened as he thought, knowing that he was damned if he did and damned if he didn't
"Lord Pontos," came a melodic voice and a sunny disposition.
"My Lord Apollo," Pontos bowed his head ever so slightly.
"I know what it is that concerns you, I've heard her voice as well." the young god answered in a conspiratorial tone. "There is a way for you to be able to keep your oath to us, without acting against her...you must united the houses...only when we are whole, can she be lulled back to sleep. You've got to give them the quest..."
"My Lord, I cannot simply give them a quest, you know that. The quest must come from a prophesy, and while once upon a time I may have had an oracle or two they have long since faded,"
"That's where you're in luck. I'm the god of prophesy, or had you forgotten. I can just give my oracle a little nudge in the right direction, and you'll be free to send them on this quest. Look, I wouldn't even be suggesting it if it weren't serious. You know as well as I do, exactly how bad things could get if she wakes up and frees all of her children. Mortals wouldn't stand a chance." Apollo glanced around the room whispering, "Rumor has it that Zeus is considering closing off Olympus from the rest of the world. Which means we'll all be locked up up here, only permitted to leave to tend to our duties...you know how boring that is? You have got to do this for me, for all of us, you have no idea how painful it is to get into constant music contest with Hermes, nor to constantly lose against him in debates. And if Olympus is closed, he'll have nothing else to do." He downed a cup of nectar with a single gulp, then offered, "I can bring an early dawn over the Academy and lift the spell so you can go back, but you have got to do this for me, do we have a deal?"
Pontos thought hard on what Apollo had said, and for the first time in countless centuries he regretted not being a chief deity any more.
"Very well, but in return I want to be permitted to remain neutral in this conflict, that I can retire to my realm and not be ordered to fight. Someone else will have to act as Headmaster for the Academy until this is over."
"I'll do it myself if I have to. If nothing else it'll get me away from Olympus when Dionysus tries to have Karaoke night. I'll meet you back at the Academy," with that Apollo reverted to his godly form and shot off across the sky like an arrow. Pontos was still uncertain that he had made the right decision, but it was too late now, he could already feel the sun chariot creeping across the sky over his realm. Just as the dawn took hold, Pontos took his godly form and willed himself back to the Academy.
He stood in the dinning pavilion look over a mass of dazed and confused students. He was pleasantly surprised to find the Academy still intact with relatively little damage.
"Attention students. The dawn has come, and the spell is broken. I do hope you have enjoyed your evening of pure freedom, but all good things must come to an end. Please return to your Houses and Dorms and get some rest. There will be a Residence Leaders Meeting in my Office immediately following dinner this evening. Now go and rest, classes resume tomorrow morning." Pontos' voice boomed across the campus as he sat down upon his throne lost in thought. This may well be his last day as Headmaster of the Academy for a very very long time. He just hoped, rather fervently, that he had made the right decision, otherwise disaster would soon follow.
"Lord Pontos, may I have a word?" a weary voice asked from near by.
"Yes, what is it DJ?"
"Sir, I learned a lot of things last night...most of it is really hard to put into words, but my costume was Poseidon...and i think, well i think I really was him, is that possible?" DJ asked looking a bit worse for the wear, he obviously had had his father's libido for the night, not that the boy's own libido was any less...ravenous.
"It's quite possible, but we'll leave that discussion on the true nature of the gods for another time,"
DJ nodded wearily, then seemed to remember something, he ran back to his table and pulled an old book out from under his seat. "My Lord, do you have any idea as to why someone would have given me this during the party?" Pontos glanced at the title, shaking his head slightly, that Apollo sure didn't wait around.
"Just bring it with you to the meeting tonight, we can discuss it then, now go get some sleep, you don't have the energy of a god any more, and I have business to attend to.
Word Count: 1168 (raw) Muse: Not too bad at all Notes: Ok folks this officially ends the One Night Only plot line, and hints at the start of the next plot line, "The House United" I hope to have it up in the office some time this week.
