Pontos sat at his desk, his features heavy and dark with conflict, all of the senior staff flanking him on either side as the various Residence Leaders made their way into the room, all of them apprehensive and concerned. It wasn't typical for Pontos to call a meeting of the RLs unless there was something important going down, and important usually meant something along the lines of eminent danger. "Thank you all for coming on such short notice." Pontos began his eyes never leaving the polished desk top in front of him. "During my trip to Olympus, I was contacted by someone, someone who has been asleep for a very long time. I am forbidden from openly speaking her name, but she is some one you all know, whether you are aware of her presence or not. "I cannot go into details, out of loyalty to her, but I can say that if she wakes fully the whole of this world will be in great danger." he paused, stroking his bead as he collected his thoughts for a moment. "This has happened only twice before, I know that none of you, save the staff, would remember the first occasion, and it is unlikely that many of you would recall the second occasion which occurred not long after the Second Titan War. Both times, it was learned that the only way to counter the threat was to 'Unite the House', but as time means little to we gods and titans, it is easy to forget lessons learned, and I fear that if the lesson is not truly learned this time there may not be any other chances to learn and remember the lesson." Pontos could feel the Olympians on the staff shifting uncomfortably in their seats. With a heavy sigh he looked upon the crowd of young faces feeling a small twinge of guilt, chances were that many of them would become Hades' subjects before this was over. "Over the years, it has been the policy of Olympus to divide certain groups of half-bloods from the others. The mist has often been manipulated to prevent one group from knowing of the others existence, all done to prevent more disastrous wars, and save the lives of their half-blood children. "What we have here at the Academy, with to union of so many half-bloods, is the first time so many have been brought together in countless centuries. Although, that has strengthened the House, it remains divided. If the Academy, and indeed Olympus itself is to survive, the whole of the House must be brought together. "Each of you is unique, and holds unique abilities, strengths and weaknesses, only by working together can you convince your brethren to come home." He leaned back in his chair his visage aging by the moment, looking to Apollo he continued. "I cannot be any more involved in this, I have pressed the bounds of my oaths and loyalties to their breaking point as it is. With that said, following this meeting, I shall retire to my realm, and remain there until this conflict is decided. Lord Apollo will take on my duties as headmaster for me, when he is not obligated to be elsewhere. In his absence, Lady Persephone and Titan Bob will be responsible for the Academy. That doesn't not mean that I will be removing my protections from this place, I swore upon the river Styx that I would train and protect you; I will not wholly break my oath, as I can no longer train you. I will use all the powers at my disposal to protect this Academy from any and all that threaten it." After a moment of internal debate he decided to push his luck just a bit further. "I am not one to deliver prophesies, as Lord Apollo can attest, but I will give you this one last bit of advise, go west. In a land sparse of my progeny, you will find her the strongest there. Your lost brethren will know this and seek to weaken her there, by themselves. Even with all half-bloods united, you can only quite her for but a little. Be wary for there are cracks in deaths doors. i can say no more, other than to wish you all the best of luck, and grant one last blessing upon the Academy itself. Until we meet again," With the sound of a crashing wave ancient Pontos disappeared from his office, seeking refuge in his realm. He stood quietly in the middle of his stately home, his spirit leaden as he leaned heavily upon his trireme oar. "Forgive me my love," he whispered weak and weary, feeling the sands beneath him shift and move, caressing his feet almost lovingly. I would like everyone who can, to post something about the meeting before we really get rolling. Try to pick your most bad-ass character for this quest, because it's going to be a rough and tough quest. Those of you who have already read The Lost Hero will have a leg up on those that haven't, but don't think we're going to take that quest and repeat it verbatim, oh no we like to have our own spin on things around here I hope you guys enjoy this, and I'm looking forward to seeing your posts

(I haven't read it... so honestly I'm completely lost.. but I'll do my best to give you guys something to work with... ;; ) Alexiel had been called out of a cram session by a note from the headmaster, she was told it was of the up-most-importance. She sighed, she needed the cram session but Pontos never called a meeting unless there was a huge ammount of danger involved so she obeyed and left the classroom. She stopped halfway to his office and her head began to throb. She felt a wave of uneasiness wash over her and it made her stomach tie into knots. She took a breath and steadied herself, she could see a dark, almost menacing figure but couldn't make out who... or what it was and that furthered her uneasiness. What is this... is this the threat that has Pontos calling a meeting. I don't like this. she thought to herself and took a few deep breaths before pushing off the wall of the hallway and pressing on to the Headmaster's office. She entered just before he started speaking and she listened intently, all the while more flashes pleagued her thoughts. She was getting a nice hold on her powers and could nearly control how intense the premonitions were.
Alex listened intently and could hear the strain and worry in the Headmaster's voice, he was being pressured and she could tell, it was all over his features. With that said, following this meeting, I shall retire to my realm, and remain there until this conflict is decided. Lord Apollo will take on my duties as headmaster for me. she heard Pontos say and nearly cried out in protest but bit her lip and made no noise. She finally broke her gaze at Pontos and looked over the other staff, they seemed more worried than the headmaster. Pontos gave a few hints and Alexiel quickly wrote them down, but when she looked up the headmaster was gone and everyone seemed to be standing around stupified by what was happening. Alex chewed on her lip and shifted once more before smoothly moving across the room to get closer to Apollo. She managed to get there and shifted her gaze around the room. She tightly gripped her bag when an image of Pontos flew through her mind, Forgive me my love he said and she blinked, pulling away from the desk of staff and hiding behind a corner to make sense of what she'd just seen. "What...? I don't understand. What is that supposed to mean?" she whispered to herself and slipped her small notepad back into her pocket. How was she supposed to make sense of this huge puzzle. She thought for a moment and then crammed everything back to think over it later. She turned around and gently slid back up to the staff desk nearest Apollo and leaned forward. "Excuse me... I need to speak with you please." she spoke softly and remained calm and composed, she was nervous but was prepared for anything to happen. She'd been training here for years and this would be her first major quest. She knew she could help, but she needed more information first.

Jacen's thoughts were so busy, it was probably audible. His mind whirred; Pontos was obviously being bullied into this, something that Jacen understood well, having been the new kid countless times, worldwide. There was no question; Jacen would visit Pontos in his realm, at some point. Maybe there, and not in front of all of the other demigods, he'd reveal more. Until then, Jacen would think about it himself. He racked his brain; who would pressure the Ocean itself? Hmm... not much was stronger or more relentless than the Sea; it covered most of the planted, and its waves carved continents, after all. So it must be something more... intimate. Who would be waking? Jacen remembered recent stories in the news of fish and birds dying, whole schools floating to the surface in Scandanavia, and near Puerto Rico, simultaneously. Whole flocks of birds dropping from the sky, either stunned or killed, but dead by the time they hit the ground. Hurricanes, freak typhoons ripping holes in cities. Europe having winters colder than ever, because the Gulf Stream was desalinating. Whatever it was, it had more power than anything in the history of Greek gods... what had woken before, in the Second Titan War? And what was older than the Titans? A protogenoi. Kronos had woken. Iapetus, Promethus... Hyperion, as well. Krios had woken, been destroyed, and reformed quickly enough to kidnap Jacen. He'd been destroyed the first time by... Someone he couldn't remember... hm. Odd. A cloud seemed to obscure his memory. Usually, his historical knowledge reigned supreme, even history recently learned. Especially history recently learned. The Mist was blocking his memories! An old anger at those who manipulated his thoughts, stemming from Krios' attempts at brainwashing, cleared his mind in an instant, and he remembered. A demigod, who'd later battled with.... Jacen swore in Ancient Greek. Jacen could bet that the last time she had woken, it was the Ice Age. And the waker had mated, had been lovers, with Pontos. Jacen stood up, and began to walk away. He couldn't tell anyone this, not even Jesse. The danger was his grandmother. Words: 342 Notes: Couldn't resist >

Apollo kept his mood light, there was no need to be brooding just yet, if things went as they should...he stopped his musings right there. He knew, probably better than most, that the future was always in motion, that's why prophesies were usually vague and cryptic. They foretold what would happen, just not the exact details of how it would happen.
He knew what toll this situation was taking upon Pontos, being torn between a lover and duty. It was never a good place to be in, he only hoped that things would work out in the end, that part of the future was still hazy and out of focus.
Usually, when he was on Olympus, and Zeus had some kind og gathering going on, Apollo had his golden iPod on, at least it helped fight the tedium of the pomp and ceremony of the gods. But here, he had elected not to have his iPod on, he didn't wish to insult Pontos by appearing disinterested. With Zeus, nothing could drown out his voice, no matter how hard one tried.
As Pontos finished speaking, Apollo sat up a little straighter, focusing a little more on the occupants of the room, they were now his charges. He would use what power he could to train and protect them during Pontos' absence. He was mentally composing a flowery and eloquent haiku for his inaugural speech as Acting Headmaster, but was side tracked by one of the students. He knew she wasn't one of his children, nor his Oracle, and yet she possessed the power of Sight. He studied her for a moment, then like on of Zeus' Thunderbolts it hit him, she was the daughter of a Fate. It all made perfect sense, not that he would be permitted to tell her much.
He watched her wrestle with what she had seen, trying to work it all out, but not having enough of the pieces or a picture to guide her in putting the puzzle back together. It would be just a matter of time before she would need to speak to him, but what he knew and what he could tell here were two very different things.
"Sure, pull up a seat, unless of course you want to speak in private,"

November listened quietly to Pontos's speech, fidgeting slightly. She'd come of course; he was a Titan and he wouldn't have sounded so...urgent if something wasn't really wrong. And if something was wrong enough to scare a Titan, than something was really wrong. He was loyal to this…her, whoever it was. Her, who was dangerous. And he wouldn’t hurt them or cease protecting them, but he was turning their training over to Apollo. And this “her” was asleep. And had nearly woken twice before—the second time at the end of the second Titan War, the one the children of the Big Three had fought in—children who’d been had in defiance of the old oath. Alright, who was she? November knew she should know this. Hades, she would know this if it was nighttime. But, unfortunately, the sun was still up and so she couldn’t do anything out of the ordinary. November shifted in frustration, and felt the vial of honey press against her leg. Of course, the honey. Her mother gave it to her, and aside from tasting better than any mortal honey could, it cleared the head. Surely it could chase away the lingering effects of the Mist? She was reaching for it when Pontos continued, “Be wary, for there are cracks in Death’s doors.” Cracks? Oh, surely Thanatos wouldn’t let any of the dead souls walk among the living. Would he? If he was pressed, a few might escape, and technically he was no longer responsible for them once they’d been delivered to the banks of the Styx… Ah! She’d nearly forgotten about the mysterious woman who Pontos wouldn’t betray. The Mist was trying to distract her. It didn’t want anyone to know. “Excuse me,” she said, taking the vial out of her pocket and taking a good gulp of honey. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Pontos disappear. Blast, now she wouldn’t have time to ask him about— The honey took effect. “Oh, no,” said November. “Her. Not her.” Gaia. Vengeful, bitter, Mother Earth was awakening again. No. Nyx could handle her—but Nyx was away on one of her innumerable road trips, gone to see about reformatting the event horizon of a black hole or some such. It was sometimes fun to watch her mother tinker with the universe—the elder goddess laughed like a child when she made something new—but this time it was very, very inconvenient. The only thing that would alert her to the problem would be November getting killed—which November certainly did not want to happen. Someone—Jacen—swore in Greek. November turned to watch him walking away. “Jacen, wait!” she called, hurrying after him. November grabbed his shoulder. “I know what’s going on,” she said quietly. “Or at least I think I do. And I know we need to talk.”

His thoughts were whirring like gears in a clock when a girl cried his name, told him to wait, and nearly dislocated his shoulder. Holy Guacka! What the hell?!
He turned around, looking her over. "What?! Who are you? How do you know me?!"
Better yet... how did she know what was happening? Jacen knew, but he assumed that his grandmother was sending that to him, or Pontos, or maybe even Metis or Mnemosyne, Titans of the mind.
He thought he'd seen her before, in the Titan Wing. Turning a corner, or something. So she was a Titanic child.... of whom?
Probably one of the dark, rather emo gods, he thought, looking her over again. His last girlfriend had dressed in black, and had purple highlights. She'd had a sarcastic, rather sardonic sense of humor, one that Jacen appreciated. Now, he was reminded of her, and how he'd had to leave her in Costa Rica when he'd moved to San Fran. The move that, though it was supposed to be his homecoming, began the end of his normal life.
If he hadn't moved to California, he wouldn't have been kidnapped, he assumed, conveniently forgetting that gods and Titans could teleport. If he hadn't been kidnapped, his dad would have stayed free, and not gone missing. If his dad hadn't gone missing, he would have stayed happy, in Costa Rica.
If he'd stayed in Costa Rica, he wouldn't have met Jesse.
He turned his thoughts forcibly to the girl in front of him. Maybe a child of Chaos, or Hekate? She could be a powerful ally, or a powerful enemy. He reminded himself that underestimation and overestimation were both equally dangerous. Whatever.
He let it go, and motioned for the girl to walk with him.
"So, why would Rhea be stirring?" he asked, trying to confuse her.

Rhea? Alright, either he was more clueless than she’d thought or he didn’t want her bugging him. Rhea was kind and beneficent and motherly and had never castrated anyone nor set up a course of events that resulted in someone being castrated. And she made good chocolate chip cookies, which Gaia did not. Everyone knew that. (Well, except for the part about the cookies.) Which meant he wanted to be sure she knew what she was talking about. Or that he didn’t want her help with this. Or both. Well, tough plantains. They were both going to need help on this—even the other titans were afraid of Mother Earth, with the exception of her mother, who was off universe-hopping again. It was better to do this together than apart. Pontos had just told them that, hadn’t he. November tapped her blue-painted fingernails against her leg. They needed to get serious about this. Because the last time Gaia had stirred…it had been bad. Very bad. She’d almost woken up entirely. And November still needed to ask Thanatos about the doors-of-death thing, because while Charon worked more locally he was in transportation, not security. And Styx was in her river all the time, and Melaina was not in fact her sister and didn’t like her that much, and therefore would be unhelpful. And Hades, fun as he was, was right out. So even though he only did pickup, Thanatos it was. November turned her attention back to the conversation at hand and gave Jacen a slightly sarcastic smile. “Rhea?” she said. “Very funny. Rhea’s nice. And a good cook. As opposed to my lovely aunt, who is neither of those things and in fact is ten different kinds of nasty and bitter. And my name is November Mason. Daughter of Nyx.”

Noah felt more like himself of old, before he made peace with his mother, before...Lewis. His mood was dark and frigid. "Cracks in Death's doors indeed. No doubt Father's going to call us up to patrol the mortal side of the Styx..." once upon a time he would have been quite content with thoughts such as these, but how he had a reason to live. A reason to stay out of the Underworld. Dear gods, dare he even think the words even now? He was happy, for the first time in his life he was truly happy. And now, once again, all Hell was breaking loose...again.
Noah shook his head frowning as he thought darkly, "No good deed goes unpunished," a lesson he had always kept at the back of his mind, but recently chose to ignore. His compassion and concern for Lewis outshining the dark lessons of Noah's bitter past. Part of his mind was demanding he volunteer to lead the "Home Guard," the students who would remain at the Academy and defend it should the need arise. But he knew perfectly well that would do no good. Lewis wasn't a fighter, and if Noah stayed behind with him, it would be Lewis that Noah was protecting, not the Academy.
"Lord Apollo, if you'll allow, I would like to take up the Quest to find these others Lord Pontos spoke of." There he said it, he wasn't happy about it, but he knew it was what he had to do. He would better serve the Academy, and Lewis, by being in the Field than puttering around at home at the Academy, or on the banks of the Styx.
His insides churned at little as Apollo nodded with a smile. "Why the f*ck does he have to be so damned perky all the time," Noah grumbled in his mind glowering at the others as thoughts of his siblings assaulted his mind unbidden. Joelle, as Residence Leader, had been the first called up to assist Hades, leaving Noah in charge of his House. A slight pang of guilt stabbed him in the chest realizing that he would be abandoning his duties to his Father's House, here at the Academy. "Don't be foolish. Riven will be perfectly fine. Besides, it's smarter to have us split up and assisting different 'fronts'," he couldn't help but justify to himself.
"I will leave at first light tomorrow morning, along with anyone else that feels the need to join the Quest. Just know this, we won't be traveling like we would on a 'normal' quest. We will be moving like an army. That means we'll need scouts, medics, and various combat units. it may be the only way to show these other half-bloods that we mean business, and deserve to be taken seriously. I will only take those with me, who are serious about this quest. If you think you're just going to end up wussing out, then stay here and protect our home. If you think you've got what it takes, then meet me at the Academy Gates one hour before dawn. I leave at first light with or without you all," Noah sat back down, feeling a strange tingling sensation that almost made him smile. He more or less appointed himself leader...captain of the expedition, and he liked it.

Post by Sebastian Aiden on Jan 18, 2011 8:35:24 GMT -7
Sebastian entered the room, deciding to slip quietly and unobtrusively far in the back, keeping his ears open to the words old Pontos was saying while trying to gather as little attention to him as possible. He was late. The meeting had already started. The boy had been practicing as usual in the archery range, when he received an urgent message that all Resident Leaders were needed immediately in the Headmaster's office.
Of course, Sebastian, as Head of Apollo House, was expected to be there.
Reaching a corner, he leaned his shoulder against the wall, crossing his arms as his eyes scanned the room. There were only a few faces he recognized. He supposed the Academy really was expanding and taking in more students from different immortal parentage. More and more students looked unfamiliar to him. But then again, he had never really been friendly to anyone, fellow Resident Leaders or not.
He blinked in surprise though, when he saw his father. Rarely does the Sun God visit the Academy or even his children, and Sebastian found himself brooding over the fact what it could be that serious to have him come down from Olympus. He studied him. Apollo looked like his normal self, albeit a little somber than customary. He was smiling, yes, but there was a hint of worry in his features that he obviously was trying not to show.
Hmm...
Deciding to pay a little more attention to what the Ocean god was talking about, Sebastian turned his attention to him. Maybe whatever it was that was that pulled his father from the skies had something to do with what this meeting was about. Not that he cared it distressed Apollo though. He wasn't particularly close to his parent. Sebastian might have been the Olympian's son, but Apollo had never acted like his father.
Before, having an absentee Dad used to bother him, but he gets it now. The gods, as well as the Titans and other mythological beings, have their immortal duties, and their off springs have to give way to what's more important. It's not like Sebastian was alone in that situation anyway. Every student, and most possibly some kids out there who haven't been discovered, much less claimed yet, was experiencing what he was experiencing now.
And since it wasn't like him to be all emo about things beyond his control, Sebastian thought the best way to deal with it was just to roll with it. After all, that's life, right? It has its hang-ups and downfalls, but the thing that separates heroes from ordinary men is that heroes dont quit. Sebastian was a demi-god, and therefore a hero by birth. Now with the new ongoing quest, he's determined to prove himself a hero by destiny and live up to his father's name.
True, Apollo was a lousy parent. As an immortal, however, he was extraordinary, and Sebastian had no doubt that, although he wasn't really the perfect father, somewhere in Olympus, while he was working, Apollo had watched over his children. For that reason alone, Sebastian thought that it was enough to bring honor, not just for him, but for the entire House and Academy as well.
Sebastian saw a Hades boy walk up to the Sun God and more or less, gave the impression of leading the quest. The Sun God's child recognized him as Noah, Joelle Morte's, the House of Hades' Resident Leader's, brother. Joelle, one of Sebastian's best friends, wasn't there at the moment. She had to go down to the Underworld and help Hades with some business. She wasnt really very clear with the details, but he gathered it was something important or she wouldn't just leave the House's responsibility to someone else, even if that someone else is her brother.
Hearing Noah made some announcements about the quest made Sebastian raise his eyebrows a bit. Impressive, but too assuming, he mused. He looked around, waiting for other Resident Leaders to get up and join in. When none came forward, Sebastian tried to read their expressions. He wondered if there will be others who'll accompany in this mission. Or was it possible that the Academy raised cowards? He allowed himself a shrug. Sebastian had already made up his decision to participate. Dangerous quest or not, he had always felt a need to prove himself. And come hell or high waters, there would be no stopping him to come along and fight.
Pushing himself upright with his shoulder, he was about to go up front when a thought occurred to him. All Resident Leaders in the room... Instinctively, hope surging wildly in his chest, he scanned every face again, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Head of Athena House. A huge wave of disappointment washed over him, though, catching even Sebastian himself in surprise, when he couldn't find the girl in question. He hadnt seen her since their second beach incident, and he wondered why he was even looking for her until now.
Maybe it's all for the best, he tried to tell himself, swallowing the rebellion he was feeling at that thought. Were she to come to the quest too, she'd only be a distraction.
Shaking his head, he frowned at himself why he even bothered to waste his time thinking about her. Again. For the umpteenth time.
Annoyed, he grabbed an arrow from his quiver and, loading it to his bow, he heard the loud hissing sound it made as he let it sail through the air, where it pierced through the tension in the room and landed just half an inch beside Noah's right foot.
Sebastian, with his usual solemn expression on, gave the younger boy a nod.
"I'll go with you."

Post by Shay du Rone on Jan 19, 2011 22:49:38 GMT -7
The very sight of Shay du Rone storming about Half Blood Academy's green lawns was not something that was out of the ordinary. She was a flurry of activity. A tornado onto herself, but one with a sense of purpose and one which knew exactly where she was going and what she wanted. Scary? Yes. Most people hurried out of Shay's path when she was in one of her moods and today was no exception. As she barreled across campus and to the meeting room, Shay left not a few people staring and/or rolling their eyes at her in her wake. She was not one of the nicer girls at the Academy, though it was something that didn't bother Shay at all. She had always been and will always be a 'respect or nothing' kind of girl. In so far, she had achieved her goal..with lots of respect from her peers but enough friends to count on in one hand. Today, the opinion of the other students of her mattered even less to Shay. In the shadow of the dream she had experienced this morning and the phone call she had had with her father, everything else was hard pressed to compete with with that for her attention. As she walked, Shay thought about the dream that she had had. It had been choppy and mysterious as most demi god dreams were but there had been something about it that was a little off... In the dream, Shay had found herself in some sort of forested area. If she concentrated she could still hear the wolves howling in the distance, their song carrying across the night air to her. At first Shay had thought that it would be Artemis appearing to her, but imagine her surprise when it was Athena herself. Usually Shay would have been please to receive a dream from her mother, but Athena had seem a little off. Stearner...and though she was a war goddess it seemed that that aspect had drowned out all others. This version of her mother had ordered her join the upcoming quest and Shay had woken up gasping for a breath hunted by the howling of wolves and the memory of a play mate who's face she couldn't quite recall. It was that memory that had lead her to call her father. But George du Rone was as cryptic as Athena had been. He had told her in a weary tone to do as her mother had ordered and she had been very snappish and impatient with him when he refused to answer some of her questions. She felt bad for that now, as she always did whenever she got snappish with her absent minded father but there was nothing for it now. No used crying over split milk. Walking into the meeting room late, Shay's gray eyes immediately locked on Noah. Perhaps she regretted not coming in on time but that was only because she was too late to lead this quest. "I'm coming." She said in that 'no nonsense, don't argue with me' tone of voice that she used on everyone. And oh yes...she did notice that Sebastian was in the room..but as usual chose to ignore him. Perhaps she could push him into a ditch while they were on this mission and be rid of him forever. Hm; the old man was talking again. As far as he could tell, he'd been dragged all the way here, just so Dumbledore could give his speech about how dark forces were rising, blah blah blah....
Only a few were actually listening, as far as he could see; a couple pretty hot guys, one or two girls he'd be talking to later... He looked at his cell phone under the table, only to be sharply told off by some harpy.
No, literally. A harpy.
He smiled his winning grin, and quickly thought of an excuse, praying to his sister, Prophasis, for help. Ah.
"Well, madam, it seems that I've received a text from my phone service provider.... If I hadn't answered it when I did, it would have interrupted Pontos' good speech."
Another smile, and she went away skeptically. He continued on his phone with a smile. Ye gods, the guy could go on! Tristan caught some of the remarks; something waking, Apollo taking over....
His ADHD seemed to be acting up lately even more... lately meaning in the past five minutes, of course. Tristan's mind wandered to fantasizing about many of the people in the hall, until it rested on what he would do, that day.
Maybe he could go to 'research' Greek gods on a Library laptop, and then Skype a friend across the pond? No, better yet, he'd go online. That might satisfy some urges, and solve some problems he'd had recently; most of the people here were completely... innocent.
He shuddered; in his old school, it wasn't uncommon for impromptu orgies to take place in the dorms, or friends with benefits to be more populous than friends.
Here, there were only a few tomcats here, people who slept around; he'd heard of Jesse, some son of Oceanus who apparently was one of the best in the school.
And Orion, too, but he was far too old.
Tristan sat up; the dude was finally finished talking. He stood up, stretched his legs, and sat down again, on his phone.

Jacen shrugged; it hadn't worked. While he doubted that Rhea made cookies, he also had just thrown out a name, and hadn't expected anyone with half a brain to fall for it.
"Hey, listen, okay? She's my grandma. Your aunt. I dunno what I'll do, who's side I'm on, y'know? And you still haven't told me how you know me."
The girl was tapping her nails on her leg, and Jacen looked down at the movement. Hm; dark blue, a nice color. Sara had worn royal blue nail polish; he'd seen the label in Spanish.
"Have you even met mst of the gods? Ten different kinds of nasty and bitter doesn't even begin to describe them. Let's face it; for many of them, the way things are going, their glory days are over. If Gaia is rising, ours might be, too."
He wasn't sure what he was arguing, but he wanted the girl to get discouraged from anything resembling going with him, or even thinking about him; if he joined his grandparents, it might be best to go unnoticed.
And if he didn't, his job might simply be to sedate his grandma or something, which sounded so normal, it was funny; in this case, 'sedate' meant fight, and 'grandma' meant the earth itself, who had a really bad attitude.
There would already be a quest forming; people who would want to go and fight Gaia. They would probably die, and Jacen was certainly not going along.
But he might stop them, if necessary. A quick storm in their path, or a flash flood.... He didn't want to kill, but to hinder... Ugh.
This would be so much easier if he knew what side he was on, and what side he should be on!

“How I know you?” November repeated incredulously, raising an eyebrow. “Same dormitory, dumbass. I just hardly ever see you or anyone because all my classes are at night. I’m a lot better at night.” She frowned. This boy was being so unhelpful. They both knew what was up, who was rising, just why She was so dangerous, so why couldn’t he just cooperate with her? They should already have gone over and offered to join the stupid quest!
“Oh,” November muttered. “You don’t know what side you’re on. That’s just great.”
"Have you even met most of the gods?” said the boy. “Ten different kinds of nasty and bitter doesn't even begin to describe them. Let's face it; for many of them, the way things are going, their glory days are over. If Gaia is rising, ours might be, too."
“I bet I’ve met more of them than you have,” November snapped. “I’ve got the biggest and most dysfunctional family this side of the Srxll Arm in the Andromeda Galaxy! And don’t you dare say their glory days are over. You obviously haven’t seen Lottie or any of my brothers or sisters in action. Or a capital-A Argument.”
November raised her arm and pointed to the asymmetrical pattern of black dots on it. “You see these? I got these down in Tartarus, in my mother’s house. This is what happens when your siblings are having the aforementioned capital-A Arguments chucking balls of antimatter around and it splashes off the wall next to you. And, I’ll have you know, most of the gods are pretty cool. Even Zeus, when he’s not in lecherous mode.” Thunder rumbled. “What? It was a complement!”

To call Jesse Monroe lazy was an understatement. Unless it had something to do with swimming, sailing, surfing, flirting or sex, he could do without it. Which was why no one was surprised to see him napping in the back of the Headmaster's Office as the Old Man droned on about doom and gloom. It wasn't really anything new, someone was out to overthrow the gods...again, big whoop. He did his best to shut out the noise and indulge in a little mental fantasy, a very cute boy in a very skimpy speedo...now that was just what the doctor ordered. A sly smile creeped across his face as he imagined what he would do with said speedo, but was sadly derailed by that damned Hades kid. He was such a buzz-kill.
Jesse wanted to say "So who gives a f*ck," but was stopped by this itching tingling feeling in the back of his mind. It was a very strange sensation, that slowly began to intensify until it was like there was some little creature in his head poking his brain with a sharp stick.
"FINE!" Jesse blurted out standing up in a huff. "I'll go too, you're all likely as not headed to the desert and will need fresh water. And whether I like it or not, I'm your man for fresh water," he grumbled making his way to the front to stand with the others.
"For the record I am not officially taking sides here," He offered to Noah with a frown. "For all I know, this mysterious force could be for the better, and who knows maybe my folks will be restored to power...to share power with the gods...or something like that." It was a lame excuse, but he couldn't exactly say "Hey, I'm doing this only because some little gremlin in my head is making me do this," if he did, he'd probably end up being locked up with those Dionysus kids Maxi and Lewis, and if he was really screwed, they'd throw that freaky Eris kid Scooby in the same room for good measure. If Jesse wasn't crazy now, he would be by the end of that little creeptastic adventure.

Jacen sighed.
"I said gods, not daimons. Emotion gods still rule. Look at the Golden Age of Greece; when people still openly worshipped them. Now, if you do, you're branded a nutcase and sent to prison."
He didn't like her calling him a dumbass, but he could understand why night classes would make sense. His Titan stepfather, Krios, had only given night classes on Mt. Orthys, if you could call them classes. More like torture sessions and sparring matches.
She seemed very good at space stuff, like the antimatter and the Sryxil Arm. He was impressed.
"Listen, you see that guy over there?" He pointed at Jesse, who was clearly fantasizing, and Jacen doubted it was him in Jesse's head. Then, when Jesse joined the mission, Jacen's face fell further; if he was on Gaia's side now, he'd have to fight...
No. He couldn't. He wouldn't. Jesse was the thing that had turned him from a disheveled, useless wreck into a semi-happy one. He'd saved Jacen from poisoning, and been with him until he met his mother, even risking himself for it.
"I can't even tell him what's out there, much less go blabbing about it to everyone who asks. I bet you know who it is, but I don't know whether I should be be happy or terrified, and I don't know what I am feeling."
His voice broke with the last sentence. Usually, he didn't wear his heart on his sleeve so much, but he was confused. He needed someone to talk to, to try and think aloud with, and Jesse clearly wouldn't suffice.
He needed a friend, and he had no idea of who to turn to.

Oh the looks Jesse got from the demigods was priceless, especially that Noah character. It was like Jesse was something foul on the bottom of his shoe, which was something coming from a child of the Underworld. It was almost as though his very presence as a demititan was something so unpalatable that all they could do was sneer and glare at him. Jesse just ate it up with a spoon, he was in the mood to shake things up, cause a ruckus, show these snobs that though they may be in power, the weren't the only ones with power. He looked towards his fellow titans, hoping to see some triumphant looks, all he found was some rather disappointed faces. It was like he had crossed some sort of line, fraternizing with the "enemy" or something.
"Look people, Pontos said we all have to work together here. We all essentially play for the same team, more or less. The way I see it, right now, whatever is bad for the Olympians means trouble for the rest of us as well. No offense, but I'm not wholly opposed to the Olympians getting their asses handed to them, it could open the door to a Second Titanomachy, which would be good for my parents, I'll agree. But on the flip side, look at the other titan relations we have. We're talking some brutal dudes here. Do you think mortals could handle people like Kronos and Krios back in power? I don't." He paused noticing the pained look on Jacen's face, which made his heart ache. He liked Jacen a lot, and he couldn't hurt him or any of his friends, not on purpose anyway.
"Look, I'm only doing this to make sure these idiot don't die of dehydration out in the middle of the desert. I mean who here could live with themselves if something happened to our fellow students while out on a quest, and knew they could have helped. Knew they could have maybe saved some lives? I know I couldn't, that's why I'm going. As far as I'm concerned, there is no war, at least not yet, and until there is, I'm going to believe we're all on the same side, the half-blood side. So yeah, whatever," He wasn't exactly sure where all that fervor came from, but he knew he meant it, while at the same time a part of him wanted to just wrap his arms around Jacen and "kidnap" him, taking him to the bottom of the sea where they both could live quite comfortably until this whole nonsense blew over.
"You know dad, this trying to be a hero bullsh*t, is really starting to cramp my style," he mused as he sat on the edge of the Headmaster's desk frowning heavily at the room.

November shrugged. “To tell the truth, I actually had no idea there was a difference…” she said.
She didn’t actually know what on earth a “daimon” was or how daimons were different from gods, nor did she know much about the Srxll Arm beyond the fact that a) her mother had been there (although this didn’t really count; most protogenoi had been pretty much everywhere), b) families there consumed each other as a matter of course due to having thousands of children per spawning, and c) their crystallized whatevers were actually pretty tasty despite glowing in the dark and having lots other somewhat radioactive qualities.
“Listen, you see that guy over there?” said Jacen, pointing at a fairly good-looking blonde guy—a son of Oceanus, what was his name, Justin? Something with a J, November knew. Jackson, maybe? No, not that…Jake? Gah.
“Yeah, I see—“ November broke off as Jacen broke down, his voice cracking. Oh, dear sweet Grandmother Chaos, had she really been that bad? She usually wasn’t.
“Oh, jeez, spank me hard, calm down,” said November. “Um…look, have you ever actually met Her? I mean, with gods, family is never a simple thing—look, what I’m trying to say, is, um, do you have a good reason for joining Her other than Her being your grandmother? ‘cause with most gods family doesn’t cut it as a reason for alliance or loyalty or whatever—I mean, look at Kronos. Thrown down and chopped up by his own kids, right? I mean—oh, jeez. Just, like, calm down. I don’t think it’ll get bad for a little while—gods, why does my family never call when I actually need them? Advice or something would be really nice right now.”
There was no response. Of course not. Her brothers and sisters talked to her on their own terms and in their own time.
NOTES: sorry this took so long, my muse went and ate itself.

Post by Lukas Jihoo Shou on Jan 31, 2011 21:59:04 GMT -7
Lukas Shou let his eyes sweep lazily over the people in the room. He noted a few arguing here and there, a pretty young woman having what looked like a squabble with an equally pretty young man, a son of Hades declaring that he would lead the quest, a daughter of Athena coming in and a son of Apollo who seemed to have gone silent when she walked in. On the other side of the room, he noted a handsome blond staring down at his crotc--no wait. He was staring at his phone and he grimaced internally when he heard a shrill shriek from a harpy.
He reclined back in his chair, his black hair flopping a bit and he easily swept it aside and he watched as Apollo watched the residence leaders. He noted disdainful expressions from the demi-gods when Jesse Monroe, his on-and-off friend Cami Lee's brother, mentioned that he was going to join them on their quest. Quietly, he snorted air from his nose.
A quest like this was probably something he should take part in but to be honest, he didn't really care. Some other siren, god or titan or something would probably fix it without having him to step in. He knows that the schools got enough students as is and they didn't need all of them to save mankind...or demikind. Now, it wasn't to say that Lukas didn't want to help the school or his weird extended family because honestly, he loved the school and his weird extended family straight down to the not so blood related children of Hades. He loved them but at the moment, he was kind of too lazy too mess with something huge waking up.
There was suddenly a light prod to the back of his neck and Lukas's eyes flew open and for a moment he didn't remember when he had closed then and he heard a light fluttering, raspy sound at his ears, in his mind and he groaned.
“Lukas-child,” the voice was light and without even thinking about it, he knew immediately it belonged to his mother. Her voice was light, lilting even and he frowned to himself. “Lukas-child, why don't you lend a hand to your family? This is as much your problem as it is theirs baby,”
“Can’t someone else do it? Zeus in all his thundering glory knows that there are enough demi-children to do it. Why should I bother with it?” Lukas asked back with a snort of air from his nose. “Besides I kinda think that the demi-gods should get their asses kicked once in a while,”
All of a sudden, there was a strong whack to the back of his head and Lukas almost flew out of his seat and though he managed to stay in it, his head connected with the wood with a dull thunk. Swearing magnificently in both Chinese and Korean, he grasped his nose and hissed at the throb it gave when his fingers touched it lightly. In his head there was a flurry of screeching and Grecian curses and Lukas winced, blinking tears of pain from his eyes.
“Umma! (Mom/Mother in Korean) That really hurt! What was that for?!” Lukas hissed angrily, a hand gently prodding his nose as he sat up. He hoped that the other demi-children didn’t see that. He wouldn’t be able to live it down if they did.
“LUKAS JIHOO SHOU! This is not a game! My dear child! If she wakes up it could be the end of us all! Now are you going to help or so Demeter help me and I’ll drag you to help them!”
Lukas winced. Damn his mother was ticked. Maybe he was downplaying this threat a little bit. He winced when thinking and scrunching his nose up in thought made his nose hurt and he pressed at it a little bit before looking at the other residence leaders. Of the present ones, it seemed as if Jesse was the only non demi-god going and Lukas hesitated. His hesitation garnered him another smack to the head but this time, Lukas actually fell out of his chair. He grumbled irritably before getting to his feet, brushing off his jeans.
“I suppose if a demi-titan is joining we might as well have a mythological slash creature rep too I guess,” Lukas grumbled. He cleared his throat and with as little of his powers as possible, he raised his voice. “I mean he’s got a point. Granted that line is actually Cami’s I think, the line about us being on the same side an’ all, goodness knows how many times I’ve heard her say that when she’s trying to get me out—I mean when she’s trying to get me to make friends an’ all,” he shifted his weight, shoving a hand in his pockets. “I suppose the real thing is that there’s a threat and while we’re, to quote Cami, while we’re siblings in a competion but in this war we’re on the same side.” he paused when he saw some oddly hostile looks and he scowled. “Look I ain’t happy to be some of you people’s family either and I regard it sometimes in the loosest sense possible but in the long run, we’re family. All of us and I think if the gods are going to back out, why don’t we top them and save a world they can’t?”
He paused, watching the various faces and he shifted, a little bit nervous and he noted that Apollo was still watching them. Of course he was talking to another residence leader but he knew that on some level he was still watching. Lukas swallowed before hesitantly making his way to the front although he stopped a little bit before he actually reached the others. Gathering himself, he smirked a little.
“Think of it as a way to show up the ‘rents. Being able to work all together when they couldn’t,” there was another smack to his head, an irritable breeze but Lukas knew that his mother was probably proud of him anyways. Or she was saying farewell because the other demi-children were about to rip him apart. One or the other.

Kel walked in nervously; he'd just come from dinner, and there from his cabin. While he'd seen a few of these people around, being from different residences, and being the leaders of theirs, he'd never worked up the nerve to talk to them.
Usually, he was quiet but not shy, but now, when his powers were known and would have an occasionally negative effect, he didn't want to take them for granted; he could be disliked. Best to make a good first impression.
Or something.
With dismay, he saw no girls to speak of on first glance. With mostly guys being the Residence leaders here, he might spoil his chances of a relationship. Not that he needed one, or anything, but he wished he could get some now and then.
"Hey[/i], he said softly, after discovering that he was late, and that Pontos' message, which had obviously just been conveyed, because he was still standing there, had become a quest sign-up sheet, and an open debate.
He knew by now joy would have filled their minds, and they might even be distracted, and so spoke softly, as to apologize for accidentally manipulating their minds.
It wasn't like he could help it, without a headache all day, maybe even for a week afterwards.
Kel saw someone standing, an Asian boy. Hm, a mythological student? He let it go, and sat down in the only free seat, next to the boy.
"I'm Kel," he whispered to the boy, simultaneously trying to listen to the conversation.
He knew he was probably coming off as a shy, quiet nobody, and an unimportant person to befriend, but he didn't care nor was he able to fix this.
First impressions are permanent.
He just hoped, for once, that his pleasure wave could fix things.

She seemed confused at first, when Jacen had retained his control, but as soon as his voice broke,
“Yeah, I see—“
Hmph, she was astounded or something. She looked almost... guilty. Oh, Zeus, no! It hadn't been her! No, it was the situation, he didn't blame her, she must know that!!
If he said anything, she'd call himself out as trying to read her emotions, and she'd guard her face more, when no person had to guard their emotions from him. Not like he would use them[/i].
He said this because, as soon as he realized what he'd been feeling was almost an elated, happy emotion, he noticed a new kid had walked in. Not bad, but there were better.
Back on topic, Jacen, after a moment's thought, connected the two events, and realized he'd seen the boy before; a son of Hedone, or pleasure. Most wouldn't recognize Hedone's name, barring Jacen. In fact, out of the Greek god's children in this room, he might be the only one.
Then November spoke again, one of the longest speeches she'd ever said to him.
“Oh, jeez, spank me hard, calm down... Um…look, have you ever actually met Her? I mean, with gods, family is never a simple thing—look, what I’m trying to say, is, um, do you have a good reason for joining Her other than Her being your grandmother? ‘cause with most gods family doesn’t cut it as a reason for alliance or loyalty or whatever—I mean, look at Kronos. I don’t think it’ll get bad for a little while—gods, why does my family never call when I actually need them? Advice or something would be really nice right now.”
His mind raced, trying to beat itself to the finish line, and he thought for a moment. Though crude examples, and Jacen could probably tell the stories better, it brought up a good point; Gaia didn't care.
This point rebounded in his mind, growing with each bounce.
Gaia didn't care for anything or anyone, and was a heartless creature. Most protogenoi were... Possibly even Pontos, according to Eurybia.
However, on this side, there were people who cared; Jesse, possibly Pontos, November, Alexa... more, if he was more sociable. People here would help someone if they were injured. Gaia would euthanize him.
That settled it... along with the fact that, if something happened to Jesse and he wasn't there, he'd never forgive himself.
"I'm joining, too.", he announced.

November relaxed slightly. Okay. Not her fault he was freaking out, then? She watched Jacen as his eyes glazed over—probably thinking. About what? November certainly hoped he was considering going on the quest…
She looked around the room, waiting for Jacen to finish thinking. November felt, unexpectedly, happy—and then she caught sight of the boy, maybe seventeen. The son of a pleasure goddess whose name she couldn’t remember. Something with an H?
“I’m joining, too,” Jacen said, derailing her train of thought.
Whew, thought November, relieved. Jeez, would he really have joined Her? Ah, now’s not the time. I can always ask someone later. She grinned at Jacen. “Good to have you, then. C’mon, let’s go see that son of Hades about the quest.”
The son of Hades, Noah Aides. He wasn’t that bad, but he still kind of annoyed November. This was partly because he could shadow travel whenever he wanted, and partly because he didn’t seem to actually care about anything besides himself.
And of course they were leaving at first light. Giving November about five seconds in which her powers would be viable, and about eight hours during which she would be disagreeable, slow, and generally useless. She knew that it was actually a pretty good decision, given there was a grand total of zero nocturnal students other than herself, and also that they would probably be driving at least part of the way because a lot of demigods at the Academy had their licenses already. But, being an irrational teenager, (and also because it was still daytime), she was still annoyed at it.
“Well?” said November, glancing at Jacen as she started towards Noah Aides. “What are we waiting for?”

Jacen glanced at November; the demigod, on a quest? Jacen, with all modesty, was pretty strong, though without stamina, and could fight well. November, though being superhuman for twelve hours, was weak in the day.
He didn't want anything to happen to her, he supposed; she was one of the only friends he had, apart from Jesse and Cami. He followed her, aware of the people watching him, and to Noah. Noah Aides, son of Hades? The name had a ring to it... had it been planned?
He nearly shook himself to get the pointless thoughts out of his head, and raised it, opening his mouth to speak.
"Excuse me, I'd like to join, too? My name is Jacen Grey, son of Eurybia."
He half-expected the guy to say the phrase 'minor titaness', and he prepared himself for it. It had been his pet peeve for months now; she was awe-inspiring, the god over power of the sea and air itself, so why was she 'minor', in any way?
No. Back to November. She'd make a I must go! My people needs me watch, or something... this was his first official quest, but he'd escaped from Krios well enough. Well, kind of.
So far, there seemed to be too many people joining... he'd remembered hearing about three to five people at a time, but this was him, Jesse, Noah, that mesmerizing mythological, and November. There had been more, but Jacen didn't know their names or parents.
If this quest failed, the Academy's best fighters could perish, leaving the Academy nearly defenseless. He would make sure to pack some nectar, some ambrosia, and some energy bars to repair his stamina and energy levels that were sure to deplete quickly after they left.

He hadn't quite expected this many students to volunteer, three or four on a quest was more typical than seven or eight, but somehow, it seemed those high numbers might well be needed. It was a tough call to say why they would need so many, but when the gods moved people it was wisest not to question it.
"Alright people listen up. We need provisions, weapons and transportation sorted out before we go. Since traveling over land is dangerous, I'm thinking we should gather up our flying chariots and use those, while we're at it, we should probably ask Zeus' permission to cross his realm...it would be unfortunate if you got struck down out of the sky before we accomplish our mission. So, we'll need the Hephaestus students to make sure we have four, two-person chariots, rigged for flying by morning. Along with that, we'll need the Poseidon students to get us at least four, preferably eight pegasi to pull these chariots, make sure they're strong enough to handle the weight. Each chariot will need some one who can drive a chariot. We'll assign chariots to drivers first, then passengers after that." Noah looked at the motley little group mentally groaning as he considered who might be decent enough to drive and not get themselves and their passenger killed. There weren't a lot of bright prospects. He was probably the best driver of the lot, after that was Shay and maybe Sebastian, he wasn't sure about any of the titan brats, or the siren, but from the look of them chances were slim.
"Aside from that each person will be responsible for their own weapons and armor, if you forget something you'll have to do without. If you bring too much, you'll slow us down. So think very carefully before you decide what you'll need. Each chariot will need a basket of food rations, as well as emergency ambrosia and nectar. You," He pointed at the Oceanus boy, "Will be responsible for making sure everyone has enough fresh water, two canteens a person, every day. We're headed for the desert, were the sun shows no mercy, keep that in mind.
"You," He pointed to the Nyx girl, "Will be responsible for the Night Watch, with the rest of us taking turns to stand watch with you throughout the nights. But that's something we can work out in better detail along the way. My main priority it to use you during the time of your peak potential." Noah paused considering what other things this little band of misfits would need.
"The last thing I can think of is first aid. Sebastian, you'll be in charge of that, make sure each chariot has at least a small first aide kit in it. I believe that's everything. Does anyone have any questions?"

Jacen looked up at Noah. The boy didn't know him, evidently, and that was why he hadn't been tasked with anything, but he felt unused and unwanted even so.
He was a child of Eurybia, and though he didn't expect anyone to know who that was, he could control the fricking sea and wind, not to mention his bojutsu and knowledge...
He could have helped Jesse with water supplies, though a small piece of his mind argued that while Jesse was good with fresh water, Jacen was better with the sea.
And while Jacen could perhaps speed their way aeronautically, it'd be draining, and pointless. He didn't even know where they were going.
"Yeah, I have one. Where are we going, and how do we plan to put her to sleep?"
In his mind it was a valid question.
That boy, the one who'd walked in after the siren, seemed to send out pulses, or waves of sheer joy... it was rather difficult to concentrate, in fact, Jacen nearly closed his eyes and sighed right there.
He guessed other people must be feeling it, too, because the boy wasn't targeting Jacen, right? Jacen pulled out a coin, rolling the golden drachma mesmirisingly between his knuckles, and thought about the Quest to come, and the risk it could have on his family and friends.

It was mildly surprising, if not a tad irritating that this demititan had come up with a question he wasn't exactly prepared to answer at this moment. But Noah kept his cool, his eerie intense eyes boring through the demititan like twin lazers.
"To answer your first question. We are headed west to the desert, the best place to start looking would be Arches National Park in Utah. Arches, especially ancient ones like the ones we'll find there, are often gateways, some of which are exits from the Underworld, or rather could be. Now, if I were in charge of a group of demigod warriors, who received similar warnings or prophesies to what we received, Arches is where I would set up my first line of defense. With any luck, that's where we'll find these mysterious "others" we're supposed to work with. If we don't find them there, we'll split into two groups one headed further west into Nevada and California, while the other groups stands guard at Arches. As for your second question..." he paused studying the boy trying to decide whether they had both come to the same conclusion about who this mysterious "waking person" could be.
"If it is who I think it is, fighting her would be wasted effort. But there may be other ways in which we could act to lull her back to sleep. But that's some thing we'll have to deal with at a much later date. For now our focus should be on finding these others and convincing them to come back here, where we can draw strength from numbers." He regarded his fellows for a moment then continued.
"We all need to get a I must go! My people needs me's rest, a good meal and a shower before we leave. The gods only know when the next time we'll be able to do any of those in the near future. So go get your affairs in order. Take only what you'll need, I'll pack a few spares in my chariot as I'll likely be ridding alone, but not so much as to make this some kind of family vacation. Unless there is anything else, we need to get a move on things,"
